Occupy Wall Street (1 Viewer)

The comment about "their demands."

I heard on the radio an excerpt of one of the speeches where they were asking for:

1) Free health care
2) Free college education
3) $20 minimum wage

I haven't criticized this occupy wall street thing because I am happy to see people upset with big government. They have more in common with the tea party than not.

The thing is, nothing is free and where minimum wage is the highest are the areas hardest hit by this recession.

Then there really are some nut jobs out there.

All three of those objectives are unattainable. If they plan on staying around until their demands are met, I hope they have no other plans for their lives.

I wonder if they have wondered how objectives 1 & 2 can possibly be met and what #3 would have on the economy- instant 50% unemployment. I admire their pluck, but not their brains.

Anyone seen this floating around Facebook? I've seen a few interesting reactions from it.

Not all of us had a silver spoon like you. A romantic dinner between my wife and I my last year of grad school was finding Petite Sirloin for $1.99/lb, a baked potatoe, and a discounted wine from the wine warehouse I managed at nights while going to school. We'd sit in the living room of our one-bedroom shithole of a house we rented, and eat our shitty steak that we had to 'marinate' in Kikoman teriyaki just to kill the taste of it. She worked three jobs at the time. We look back and wonder how we had any free time, but we did. Sure, we couldn't go out anytime we wanted to go out, but we also appreciate more what we have today because of our past experiences.

And guess what ... we worked for them, and we pay our bills. We certainly didn't have time in our mid-20s to camp out in a park in downtown PDX for weeks at a time. My kids have it easy, but I worked hard for it, and so did my wife. I just don't get how people can leave their life to camp out for weeks on end. Somebody must be either paying them or supporting them with food. If not, then Dignity Village has basically set up shop in downtown PDX.

thats why you wont show your face either! :MARIS61:

but seriously, silver spoons? great show, i can relate, i had a scale train set to bring me to the living room as well, at least until the teleporter was installed

That's an ironic thing to post on an anonymous message board where you fling as much shit as anyone, and flipped out when I supposedly "stalked" you.

Notice my reaction when MickZagger literally posted my name numerous times to your reaction when I made a wild-ass guess. Also, my name doesn't show up on the top page of a Google search, so Mick must have been a busy boy to dig up my dirt.

back in my day, we had to eat roadkill we were so poor, and not even our own, we couldnt afford a horseless carriage so we would just sleep in the ditch by the road and wait for an armadilla to get run down. and wine? we had to drink fermented horse urine, its a little rough at first, but it has a nice finish, with notes of honeysuckle and pear. our potatoes were human testicles, harvested from frozen vagabonds. so dont tell me about being poor mr. $1.99 steak, we would save up for 3 weeks just to buy used newspaper blankets

oh please, hi papag, i was impersonating you, obviously the art piece that it was was lost on an unrefined eye

but feel free to google me some more gumshoe, ive posted pictures and my old myspace with my real name numerous times

She's had 3+ yrs of college and is still unqualified to get a real job.

And she's okay with that.

Underachievers like her are what's dragging this country down.

Obviously ghostwritten by Dan Quayle.

and i didnt see the thread where zags outed your real name, if you want to be secret, that is your prerogative, just like i wouldnt expect anyone to try and find out information about me and post it on a website

In any failing society those responsible for it's demise are always apparent.

They're the ones with the money (power).

Good for you. I don't even remember what first name I posted (was it Chris?), but you sure had a freak out over it! As I said I don't care, and since Zags 'outed' me, I've actually met a few people in 'real life', and not just this interweb world, you zany crazy guy!

Difference is, I'm not ironic about it. You tried to slam her for not showing her face, yet you're the king of not showing your face! Hell, I've had mine as my avatar plenty of times.

Why the secrecy?

While there are certainly greedy people causing plenty of problems, I don't think they're the sole persons responsible. Moochers and lay-abouts contribute some as well. Or are you just saying that the ultimate demise is caused by the rich and that the non-contributors to society play only a small part of the problem?

For what it's worth, I paid 100% every penny for my 4 year degree. I've lived in a car (for a couple of months) and gone door to door looking for work. I've never asked for a handout and never expect one.

I think at one time you could work 60 hours a week, take on a second job, work holidays and weekends, get a degree and you would get ahead in life.

Now it seems like this is what it takes to make ends meet. What kind of life is this?

re-read my posts if you need to, this is redundant to say the least

well, having a job of any kind is "getting ahead in life" at this point

You embarrassed yourself on the Hong Kong/Singapore posts. I saw your refusal to admit that you were wrong as simply being hard-headed.

You made yourself irrelevant with your irony in this thread. Welcome to the club!

2080 hours in a work year X $9/hr = $18,720. After standard deduction and whatnot, take home pay would be approx $1,375 per month; less rent of $600 = $775; less food of $125 (my wife & I live on $150/mo) = $650 less electricity/cell phone/some sort of internet connection of $175 = $475; less liability auto ins and 3 tanks of gas of $150 = $325; misc for used clothing, an occasional co-pay for meds, misc of $150 = $175 left over.

It's very doable at $9/hr. Why the piss do they feel they need a minimum wage of $20/hr?
