He took a step in the right direction Wednesday when he ran on the treadmill for the first time since undergoing surgery in December to reattach his broken left kneecap.
"I'm all right, but it's just tough," Oden said. "I'm going through all this again. I've been through this before and I know I can come back from it, but it's the fact that it happened again that's making it tough."

"When I jumped to block the shot, I looked down and saw that there was a hole in my knee," said Oden, who has seen video of the play several times. "The feeling I get is that I wonder why did this happen to me again. What can I do to not make it happen again?"

"You have to be able to stay loose about everything that's going on with my injury problems," Oden said. "With this happening twice and the amount of time and games I have missed, the No. 1 pick pressure, it's tough. You have to be able to look at yourself and have fun."

:(

Good news he is on the treadmill though!

So that is why Mobsters break bones. See they are reallly good guys, just trying to make you stronger.

noooooooooooo! We arent gonna win this year.. get that dude healthy!

Healthy = Healthy. If he is ready to play, he is ready.

I hope so. But I dont want him in there at 80% with that risk of getting hurt again.

Just compromise. He can play in the playoffs, but needs to wait until game seven of the western conference finals. About June 1st.

I like that he is working towards coming back this year, even if it isn't realistic.

in other news, he's trying to grow some dreads.

Then let's miss the playoffs and get a chance at Wall?

If the Blazers need playoff experience then so does Oden.

I agree to that.. but I mean more if there is the risk of re-injuring it. if he is 100% then It doesnt scare me. But if he isnt.. I see no reason to risk it for a 2nd round berth

He needs to sit out the season and get ready for the next. I'm excited to see him have a healthy season. We really need it.

If his leg muscles are strong enough for competitive play in the playoffs, so be it. If this had been another ligament or cartilage injury that might be a different story, but I don't see the harm if he is truly ready and cleared to play.

The chances of Greg having a healthy season are slim...but I hope I'm wrong.

I think this is a big reason I'm on the "bring him back" bandwagon. Who knows whether or not Greg will have any sort of sustainable health in the future. If he's healthy now, play him now. Get what use out of him you can.

This fits into my "maybe we should have kept Bowie" idea. Let's say Sam Bowie would have only been healthy during the 90 and 92 playoffs but was injured the rest of the time. Let's say his healthyness means we won the championship those years. Would it have been worth it to keep him around and suffering through all those crappy injured years to have those two championship playoff runs?

I know it's crazy to say we could have a championship run out of a lower seed. But get back a healthy Greg and maybe he beasts all over the other team and the sky's the limit.

I think history showed we made the right choice re: keeping Sam or trading for Buck.

I really doubt we would've had that 3 year stretch had he stayed on the team. Buck was a huge difference maker.

Sam did end up having a decent season, but I don't think his #'s would've matched Bucks impact.

Imagine if everyone got miraculously healthy in time for the playoffs and we trotted out a front line of Oden, Pryz, Camby, LaMarcus, and Howard! Could you imagine game planning for that as an opponent?

The kneecap is fully healed.

Now it's about getting the muscles and connective tissues back into shape.

I think Oden can rock the dreads like Brian Grant and Etan Thomas.

Bosh came out looking like an Avatar.

It's funny this came up I was just thinking about Greg's Faux-Hawk picture earlier today. I thought that was sweet. This will be better.
