Oden very frustrated with his stats. Nice to hear he feels the same way about his production as I do. He has standards. And now we know part of the problem. He's not used to be second fiddle. In reality, he's been 4th fiddle and that has been hard on him. When we've gone to him consistently (see wins over Milwaukee and Chicago), he has produced. Still, I feel like Oden has to focus on defense and rebounding and everything else will come. This confirms my feeing that it's not the surgery or the time off that have been the problem. It's been mental and our coaching staff not quite sure of how to use him.

No, him being off a year from major knee surgery has nothing to do with it. He's been in perfect shape, it's all been in his head and the coaches fault.

The frustrating aspect for Oden is he felt he was just starting to emerge when he suffered the chipped kneecap after colliding with Golden State forward Corey Maggette on Feb.12.

In his two games before Golden State, he had 17 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks against New York, and 16 points and 10 rebounds against Oklahoma City. For a five-game stretch starting in mid-January, he had five consecutive games scoring in double figures and had rebound totals of 15, 14 and 14 in three of those games.

"I felt I was getting better, getting stronger, figuring out some things," Oden said.

I think if Oden didn't get injured in the GS game he would have just got better and better. He had finally got back in shape and comfortable with the speed of the game and then he got hurt again. Frustrating, but it's just a delay to his growth. We just have to be patient, which I know comes harder for some then other. :)

There's no doubt it's frustrating for everybody. I'm sure with Oden watching Durant blow up in the Rookie/Soph game didn't help anything either right after getting injured AGAIN. He's just gotta keep on keepin on. He's young and has a lot of time ahead of him.

Keep your head up young man and try to get back before the playoffs. We need you, and we are behind you! You will be great!

Wow, he seems so distant. The pressure is going to make Oden loose his mind. I wonder if he's ever considered retirement?

Also, it's not the Portland media (not including Canzano) that's ripping Oden a new one, it's the National media. Greg, you're getting $5,000,000/per for your misery, suck it up buddy.

"We have communicated to him about off-the-court stuff," coach Nate McMillan said. "But he's a grown man, an adult. We can't handcuff him, but we can communicate."

Interesting.

I can't even imagine Greg doing the same type stuff as, say, Z-Bo, but I genuinely wonder what Nate was referring to. I can't imagine simply going to a night club here and there, or having a beer or two would warrant these remarks. Perhaps it does, though, considering Greg is another big face of the (new culture) organization.....including plenty of pub.

People needs to stop feeding him bullshit like this. We WANT him to be great, but he has to figure how to do it on his own.

While I doubt Oden reads this, what's wrong with telling him something positive instead of negative? How's that going to keep him from figuring out how to do it on his own? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. You think by telling him he's going to be great he'll not try then?

He obviously doesn't read this, but you can never go wrong with some encouraging words.

People also need to stop telling him that he is a bust, and sucks, and is injury prone, etc... But if those go out there, I don't see how being positive should be a problem. He is OUR center, if anyone should be behind him it should be our fanbase, as most of the rest of the country doesn't believe in him anymore.

If this is your position, then I just don't know what to say to you other than that we'll agree to disagree.

Gotta be a humbling experience right now for G.O. For four years in HS and one year at Ohio State, he was THE man, had people calling him the greatest of all time already, and probably felt invincible on the court and could do whatever he wanted to do.

Now, he can't even get on the court, has people questioning his desire to play, and for the first time in his life, is getting heavily criticized. It's gotta be tough but the guy has to stay mentally tough.

If he wants to be THE MAN and this to be HIS TEAM then his job is simple...be the best player on the floor. Why is it BRoy's team? Because he's the best player. Simple.

I'm ALL for this being GO's team. That would mean he is kicking a**!

roy showed yesterday that its his team when he got up and defended his boy. was fucking impressed by that. Roy isn't afraid to get in anyone's face. he calls his teammates to sack up.....he's a true alpha male type with a soft demeanor. true leader.

Maybe he's frustrated because he's not as famous as Eric is.

Yes, but Oden can't score (except for putbacks) if they don't give him the ball. When we have fed him the ball, he has done very well, but for the most part, we simply don't give him the ball and this frustrates him.
