Oden hopes to return this season

been 3 years since he played a game of basketball. when he would miss a month of time, it'd take him an extra month to get in game shape. At this rate, he'll be in game shape in 2016 or so. Don't care at all. He's not going to make an impact for a franchise any time soon. Not worried about him coming back and all of a sudden being a dominant force.

Re: Oden wants to return late this season to the NBA and Miami is interested..

you had me at Bleacher Report.

That is till Oden wins a championship of course.:drumroll:

If he signs with the Heat (as reported they seem to have the most interest and best shot) and goes on to win a ring riding Lebron's coattails then good for him.

Renouncing JJ gets us to 12M or so in cap space to sign him long-term...is it enough?

I'll say though, love him or hate him, a 70% healthy Greg Oden definitely moves the needle.

I don't think I like JJ long term at the center position and I think Aldridge needs to stay at PF. We all talk about the "Buy low sell high" phrase and I think JJ is the perfect example.

I just got an alert from espn that they said Miami is interested too

"This guy is always injured."
-Brandon Roy...
"These guys are always injured."
- Ricky Rubio...
"Who is dumb enough to hurt the same body part two years in a row?"
- Kevin Love

"He plays much better when he's injured."
- Mike Shanahan

"He should sign with the lakers. The perfect retirement home for veterans"

"Greg will finally get the chance to play on the same team as his son LeBron."
" Lebron, I am your father"
- Greg Oden
"Don't forget me!"
- Delonte

"Someone needs to check his birth certificate"
- Obama

So if oxen joins Miami and wins rings, will kp actually be correct? He said one would win scoring titles while the other wins rings. Kp you sly fox!!!!

I may be the only one who feels like this but: Other than being physically imposing sometimes, I just wasn't that impressed with Oden.

His post moves needed a lot of work, his shooting ability was not as good as Meyers Leonard for example, and he was often out of place defensively/slow to react. He was well-promoted not highly-skilled. When I think of skilled centers I think of Sabonis and Walton.

Frankly, I believe Oden lacks the work ethic to reach his potential and the same lack of preparedness got him in trouble physically in the first place and will likely keep him from having an effective comeback. He just strikes me as someone who would rather be playing video games or drinking beer in a club than doing the hard work to get his body ready for the NBA pounding.

Let the bashing begin.....

In 2009-2010, when Oden played 21 games, his per-36-minute stats were 16.7 PPG, 12.8 RPG, and 3.4 BPG. He shot 60% from the field and 76% from the line. His PER was 23.1 and all other advanced statistics were impressive as well.

yep, CLE did not trade varajeo and now he's out again for a long time, gotta be willing to move and do it when a guy is at max value

and you forgot to mention that Oden was never both healthy and in shape at the same time and still got those "Dwight Howard Numbers."

If Oden ever plays again, it should be for Portland. He owes me. Plus, Oden at 60% for 12 minutes a night, is still a force of basketball nature. I'd welcome him back gladly in a reduced minutes role.

This.

I agree. Was not impressed. Always in foul trouble and getting stripped in the post.

If he averaged 36 minutes and averaged those numbers, I would've been impressed. But he didn't and he didn't.

I don't think anyone here would say that Greg's career as a Trail Blazer was impressive, I certainly wouldn't (didn't). If stats mean absolutely nothing to you, you have no reason to be impressed. If you understand and lend credence to the stats, they're fucking impressive.

Anyone who thinks Greg Oden wasn't a dominant player when he played doesn't know the game, or is literally living in denial. Look at his advanced stats, PER etc.

I don't get it....Why are people talking stats? Was his career impressive? Hell no. Was he impressive in the small sample we saw? Absolutely. Nothing to do with stats....This is all about seeing what the guy was capable of doing, and understanding what his potential was. In that, it was a very impressive career, nothing to do with stats, and deserving of interest in his return.

Or, simply, look at him (when he played).

He looked pretty good the 2 weeks or so prior to him playing his last game. Sadly, don't know that he ever gets back to that level.

People may be mis-attributing being impressed with his play with being impressed with his potential, and this goes both ways. He had some great games, and absolutely changed the game when he was in there. That he only averaged 24 minutes a game was tough for us, but for those 24 minutes, he was pretty damn unstoppable. That's the pain of it.
