Oden: "I’m preparing myself right now to be an [NBA] all-star."

Oh. Well... has any newly hired assistant said that he wants to make it to the all-star game?

Ed o.

Not that I know of. That's probably why they weren't cited by me.

It's just that it would be nice to hear Greg relate that his main goal is winning. All I seem to hear from him is the me, me, me stuff.

Whatever, though. ;)

As the team is assembled now, if he makes the All-Star team we are going to be a winner. Everybody realizes he's the final piece.

Except when we drafted him all he talked about was winning, so it was pretty clear that is has been his number one goal. I see no reason why he can't add additional goals, such as becoming an all-star, to his already stated championship goal.

We shall see. Greg has a lot of growing up to do. Glad he's addressing that at this point.

Maybe he feels he has something to prove? I certainly think he does. Can he continue to dominate and can he stay healthy? Can he get better? You think Kobe doesn't think about individual awards? Or LeBron? Do you think that hinders their game? Kobe had a huge problem with sharing, but he learned and got better. That Greg wants to be the best player possible is exactly what I want to hear. If he is able to stay healthy and play up to his potential, the Championships will come. I honestly believe that.

Are people seriously reprimanding Greg for saying he wants to be an all-star? :ughno: Some Blazer fans are impossible to please.

I said this:

To be honest, I wish Greg would have said, "I want to win a Championship" as opposed to, "I want to be an All-Star."

Be like Buck!!!

Sorry if that disappoints.

Just sayin'. Maybe he's afraid that was the jinx? It's not like he hasn't said he wants to win...ALOT.

 Love it!

Thanks for the correction. :)

He can't win by himself. I want him to be focused on being the very best player he can be, because that is what will help the team win most. A team is the sum of parts, and hopefully every part wants to be great and maximizes his ability.

Do you copy and paste your pithy little lessons from Ayn Rand, or is it William Bennett?

I don't think that was pithy. It was a fairly long-winded way of saying that teams win, players don't. Oden should be trying to play well, not "win games" which is impossible on his own. But I like lots of words.

You did, however, somehow manage to ferret out that I'm secretly a hardcore fiscal conservative. That's really impressive, considering that I hadn't even yet noted that Oden wasn't really injured the past few years, he was going Galt. Metaphorically speaking.

You have nothing in common with the poster to whom you compare yourself. Your brief philosophic wanderings are a little sophmoric, but they don't grate on me. You have the official Jlprk approval, so continue whistling on your jog to your barracks, Sergeant, and don't let me hear about this encounter from any of your Privates.

Which poster is that?

I'm glad they don't. :) But really, so long as they don't grate on me, I'm happy.

LMAO at Oden "going galt". Maybe Jlprk is accusing you of being so objective that you've become an objectivist? Try more subjective rants in th future minstrel!

No--sophomoric would be me commenting that it's a little disturbing that you would be near enough to Minstrel's privates to hear anything from them. Or that they would talk at all.
