Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that agent Mike Conley says that former Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden is interested in the Miami Heat.
--------------------------
Greg Oden, 7-0, hasn’t played since 2009-10 and is recovering from his fifth knee surgery in five seasons. A Grantland.com story said that "right now" Oden's plan is to take next season off to rehab, then come back in 2013-14. But his agent, Mike Conley Sr., told us Oden is positioned be ready to play in December or January "as far as being effective and in shape" and will explore options in the coming months, with the possibility of joining a team next season. But nobody obviously can know for sure when he will be ready.

The Heat hasn’t called but "Greg has talked about Miami," Conley said. "He has interest. He’s not retiring."

Whatever. Sigh...

He could use the sunshine.

Portland can be depressing with all its rain and booze.

South Beach is just the place for a young man with alcohol issues to find tranquility.

I have to say this is right on cue with Oden and the Heat. If Greg can come back in 2014 for the league minimum and bottom feed off of Lebron and Wade to win a championship I don't see why he wouldn't! The Heat can get a 7 footer for cheap and if he breaks again no worries.....NEXT....

Greg made 20 mill + and did nothing but put ice on his knees for it. Blaming Ptown for making him a drunk asshole which he perfected here is laughable! I think South Beach is a perfect place for Greg  Drugs, thugs and fast women, a perfect place to rehab and find your career all over again! His agent may be as dumb as Greg is to even release this statement after GO's booze confessions in Portland.

I lived in south beach for two years and can honestly say, this is not a place to go if you are trying to fix a substance problem.

Well, he may want to. There are things I want as well. But it's unlikely I'm going to get them.

How many times do we have to hear "Greg Oden will be ready to play in _____ "?

You know, to the bitter end I defended Oden. (He's no longer "Greg" to me.) I was ready to accept everything was just shit luck. Shit happens. Then it turns out he was drinking himself silly, blowing off rehab, and then blames the team/city/everyone - but himself. Now he says oh yeah, I'll be great elsewhere.

Let elsewhere have him, then let's see what Simmons says when surprise surprise, Oden breaks somedamnthing else. Maybe 10 years from now he, like Bonzi Wells, will look back and regret.

I don't care about him anymore, he's dead to me now. ESPECIALLY if he goes somewhere like Miami.

South Beach would be a great place to hang out if you are in your early twenties and had millions of dollars and enjoyed the club scene ... Have fun Greg, you only live once.

Makes sense. Oden is like 85 and old people love Florida aka God's waiting room.

You guys realize he will sign there and he will stay healthy and help them win at least 6 or 7 rings!

This doesn't really surprise me -- if there's one thing we learned about Greg is he's more about the lifestyle than he is basketball. In Miami, he wont have to think that hard playing next to LeBron and Wade.

Who wouldn't be interested in playing for the Heat? There's only so many Joel Przybilla's in the world.

It's really too bad the Blazers dropped the ball on the curious case of Greg Oden, ohh what could have been.

Regardless of Gregs own personal shortcomings, I wish him well.

I've seen the pic, and saw no personal shortcomings

IIRC one of the guys on 1080 talked Oden/Heat more than a year or two ago?

Silver lining: We don't have to deal with a healthy Oden bolting after his second contract like what LeBron and 'Melo did to their smallmarket cities.

This is why I don't believe the story about his blind dog "accidentaly" falling off the 8th story balcony.

I don't think so. But if he does (sign) and they do (win), then I think it will conclusively prove that the Blazers are indeed cursed.

How much more proof do you need!? That's like the guy who was struck by lightning seven times saying "one more time and I'll know I'm unlucky!"

This is moot, because they can't pay him. They are maxed out and he would be pure luxury tax fodder. If he wants to make money, he will end up somewhere else that will pay him more--and someone will.

Having said that, if he did end up in Miami, then I would speculate it would bring a very quick end to his rehab. Given the lack of maturity he has shown to handle partying and alcohol . . .

I'd be shocked if he gets more than the veteran minimum. He's already out for all of next season, too. By the time he gets back into a game, at best, it will be nearly 4 full years since he played in a game.

His last game played was 12/5/09, and the 2013 season opens ~ 11/1/13.

Who is going to pay more than a nominal amount for a guy that has had 3 MF surgeries, a cracked patella, and hasn't set foot on the court in any meaningful way for almost 4 years?

I'm interested in playing for the Heat too!

He can pick and choose all he wants but there hasn't been a pro-athlete to successfully come back from three MF procedures. Has there ever been a pro-athlete to have that many?

Who cares? Let him dream all he wants to. Oden will never play again.

They took a flier on Eddie Curry this season.

Maybe Greg should try walking without having to have microfractures before he talks about playing again
