Oden's number is VERY encouraging!

Aldridge was always fast - but Oden was supposed to be based on his pre-draft measurements. It is good to see that he regained his speed. When you consider that Oden who is much bigger than LMA was only 4 seconds slower then him for 20 back and forth runs - that's pretty stout.
This league is in for a rude awakening...
Guards are allowed 61 seconds to do 10 lines, forwards 64 seconds and centers 65 seconds. Players are allowed to “bank” time in each set, meaning if they finish under the designated time for one set, it carries over to the next sets.
Oden's pre-draft measurements on athleticism-based drills, as I recall, were about the same as Aldridge's...despite being quite a bit larger. Oden is an athletic freak and if he regains all of that athleticism for this season, it's going to go a long way toward preventing the fouls that plagued him last year. I'm sure he was trying to make plays that his instincts told him he could make but his body failed him due to his recovering from injury. If his body's abilities match his instincts again, he'll be less awkward and foul-prone.
And that's just benefits from regaining his athleticism and explosiveness. Any improvement from development and experience is on top of that.
So, the absolute scores were....
Steve Blake +24 : 61- 24 =37
LaMarcus Aldridge +18:64-18=46
Dante Cunningham +18:64-18=46
Greg Oden +18 : 65-18= 47
Martell Webster +14: 61-14=47
Ime Udoka +15: 64-15=49
Juwan Howard +10:64-10=54
Joel Przybilla +10:65-10=55
Jerryd Bayless +5:61-5=56
Brandon Roy +3:61-3=58
Travis Outlaw +2:64-2=62
Jarron Collins +5:65-5=60
Quinton Hosley -2:??
Donell Taylor -6:??
Andre Miller -8:61+8=69
Batum/Fernandez - were not asked to do drills.
if I did that right. Blake CRUSHED the field.

"The beast come out."
I want to see the Oden from (^^^) again this season. Check out those ridiculous stats!

Player Name Pos Target x 4 Delta Time
Steve Blake G 61 244 24 220
LaMarc Aldridge F 64 256 18 238
D Cunningham F 64 256 18 238
Jerryd Bayless G 61 244 5 239
Ime Udoka F 64 256 15 241
Brandon Roy G 61 244 3 241
Greg Oden C 65 260 18 242
Martell Webster F 64 256 14 242
Juwan Howard F 64 256 10 246
Joel Przybilla C 65 260 10 250
Andre Miller G 61 244 -8 252
Travis Outlaw F 64 256 2 254
Jarron Collins C 65 260 5 255
So Blake was fastest, followed by Martell. Then LaMarcus and Dante, followed by Jerryd. Then Brandon and Ime, followed by Oden. Pretty amazing that LaMarcus was faster than Jerryd, and that Oden was almost as fast as Brandon.
The target times are for only one set but the deltas are for all four sets combined.

That makes things look quite a bit different ... basically, everybody is in pretty damn good shape
Last year, if they "skipped" for whatever reason, they had to do the same mandatory conditioning "punishment" as those who failed.

I can't be upset w/Miller. I'm quite sure he's probably not been through anything like Nate's test since his Majerus days. He has an entire month to get into game shape; barring injury, that's no problem.
I never saw the big deal when other players failed, either.![]()

I commented in another thread a few days ago I thought he looked out of shape. This test confirms it.
It also confirms why a guy with Steve Blake's athletic gifts is in the NBA--because he is one competitive MoFo. Tell him he can't do something and watch him do it. I think Blakey is going to have an even better season than last year.

I really respect what Blake has done. Everything he done in the NBA has been purely on hard work. It certainly isn't natural talent or natural leadership or natural athleticism. He certainly showed up in better shape than Miller did.
I'm not really worried about Miller, though. Just like Blake, he's got a system that's brought him this far. He knows what he's doing.

Yea you bet he has a system. Sign a fat contract and get fat. Great system!
(Yes, I am just kidding!)![]()
