Offense is awful

Honestly the key weakness of this nets team has finally been exposed this year...we can't shoot. period.</p>

In Jkidd's first three seasons with the Nets our team was one of the best in the league. Many attributed this to our fast break offense and high flying combo of Richard Jefferson and Kmart. However I think our shooting guard play was seriously underrated during these years...and is what we are lacking in this year.</p>

Kerry Kittles and backup Luscious Harris presented excellent outside shooting(not to mention spot on defense, especially so with Kittles), teamed with KVH or later Rodney Rogers on the floor the Nets would be able to drive to the hoop as they do now and hit a high percentage of jump shots.</p>

Currently we do not have a strong consistent shooting prescence on this team (Boki and Carter are streaky)</p>

This especially hurts because with Nenad still recovering and Magliore disappointing we don't have an offensively talented bigman (though Sean Williams and Boone have the ability to garner putbacks and layups with there superior athelicism)</p>

Jkidd is a great point guard. but not a scorer he only gets around 5-10 pts a game. Our bigs currently can ony get us about 15-20 points a game all together. That means at the very least we need to account for around 50-60 points a game from the 2 and 3 positons. thats just way to much. Especially with Carter out of the lineup.</p>

For now I say we experiment with a lineup of Jkidd, RJ, Wright, Sean Williams, and Boone...yes Boone. run the floor and push the tempo. first big to to fouls gets replaced by Magliore. If nachbar comes in he plays SF exclusively with RJ sliding to SG. Wright swings between SG and SF.</p>

Also I would start pressing defensively and incorporate traps...it would play to our bigs athelicism and increase fastbreak oppurtunities.</p>

Ok...I ranted...if it doesnt make sense then my bad but I just needed to get that all out.</p>

The new offense is terrible and it's not just a lack of shooters, hitting shots, or Kidd trying to do it all himself.</p>

From it's core, the offense doesn't fit the players.</p>

Over and over we are giving the ball to collins / magloire / boone / swat at the elbow for no other reason than for the perimeter players to cut by him looking for an easy hoop.</p>

News flash: I haven't seen any easy hoops from this, but I have seen 2+ turnovers a game in this situation.</p>

We don't have any good passing bigmen... why are we putting them in that situation at all?</p>

I'd be very happy to see Boone out there with the starters. I'd prefer it to Magloire. Boone's body language is horrible, but it seems like he's trying. His fouls yesterday were the result of being overly aggressive, not trying to make up for a bad play or being beat. Yesterday, Boone kept rolling to the basket but Gill never passed to him.</p>

Also, Wright really tried to step it up on offense yesterday. He took more shots than I've seen from him yesterday, without hesitating. They just didn't fall. He also continued to do a decent job on defense against brewer (half his points came on foul shots).</p>

I disagree. Both Kittles and Harris were streak shooters and Lucious was never much of a 3 point shooter to begin with. The Nets never hit a high percentage of jump shots and were even worse when they added Rodney Rogers. Every time I think about that summer when we added Mutombo, Rogers, and Childs I throw up a little in my mouth. Outside shooting was by far that team's biggest weakness and its half court offense was just as bad as it is now.</p>

Actually I thought personally they were more consistent just not prone to amazing games. Truthfully its not the points difference I just think its the way they played the position that's really the difference. They didnt drive to the hoops as much. Kittles would finish on a fastbreak but in general they would stay outside for a drive and pop from either Jkidd, RJ or Kmart.</p>

In 2002-2003 which to me was our best year (statistically 01-02 had more wins) our scoring was much more balanced and our offense was particularly more potent.</p>

That year by position we averaged</p>

PG: Jkidd 18.7pts A. Johnson 4.1pts</p>

SG: Kerry Kittles 13 pts, Luscious 10pts</p>

SF: RJ 15.5, Rodney Rogers 7pts</p>

PF: Kenyon Martin 16.7 Aaron Williams 6.2</p>

C: Mutombo 5.8 pt, Collins 5.7</p>

Altogether the team averaged 95.4 ppg</p>

Currently we average 84.7</p>

PG production is definately down compared to that year as we score almost 8 points a game less from the position currently.</p>

The combination of Malik Allen, Nenad and Swat equals up to 17.5 points...around 5.5 points less than 02-03</p>

And the Combination of Boone, Collins and Magliore is 3pts...around 8 points less than 02-03</p>

That means we are getting around 22 points less a game from the PG, PF and C.</p>

Ok...so thats a lot of numbers...what does it mean?</p>

OUR OFFENSE HAS NO BALANCE.</p>

Frank's got a couple smart bigs in Boone and Collins, he's got at least a couple good passers out there in Kidd and Wright, so why not try it with these guys?</p>

Throw out some Princeton plays, and a few pick and rolls with Sean & Boonie.</p>

Oh really? He's trying to do everything himself, because it seems none of the Nets are worthy of playing in the NBA. You throw it down low to Mags, he gets it stolen. Get Wright or Nachbar an open shot, they'll likely brick it. Same goes for Allen...... and RJ? He hasn't played well in the past few games, due to the tight defense.</p>

there is no team chemistry and the turnovers prove this. you can blame this on essentially having a new backup pg since MWill's injury and partly on a system which requires the C/PF on being able to hand off the ball to the players from the elbow. Collins is the only player who understands the intricacies of this system and the last thing in the world I'd want any of our bigs to deal with is having the ball in their hands that far away from the basket.</p>

There's no fluidity. Everyone looks confused out there. Nobody has any idea on what there role is. That lies on Frank who was lazy and couldn't alteast find a rotation. Now he's scrambling, trying to find something.</p>

Also, NOMAM said it best. Screw the motion offense and just play basketball. Get a shot and shoot it, even if it doesn't go in. Most of the NEts shots are contested with this POS set.</p>

This is not the same team without vince and marcus, the bench is horrible wit the exception of nachbar. The only good big we have is Sean and he's a rookie. boone and collins are garbage, and nenad is not the same player anymore after surgey. The only guy that can score on the low post is magloire and he usually ends up turning it over or ends up gettin fouled where he cant shoot a free throw if his life depended on it. When vince and marcus come back it will be a different story becuz then we have wright,nachbar, and marcus comin off the bench givin this team more offense.</p>

I think when this team is healthy, this team is very good. But why? Every season we will encounter the injury problem.

this team has no balance...with or without VC and Marcus...it will be exposed when it matters unless it gets correct via trade or improved coaching.</p>
