Id seriously consider exploring this. Yes I understand that salary would be tied to our cap permanently for 3 years.

Grant while not horrible on defense like Ant or Ayton were - is below average on that end. His rebounding is horrific. He forces horrible shots while not playing a team friendly role.

Jrue played great and defers where it helps the team but creates when there's opportunities. Great defense too.

At this point it would be a total farce if Grant continues to starts. All of Deni, Camara, Sharpe are greatly outplaying him. We've seen many Grant quotes and comments at media day and other times where he clearly has demanded a starting role. He won't be happy with less.

If I were Cronin I'd explore a buyout. Let him keep 70% or so of his contract and return about 30% to be a free agent.

The way Grant is playing he won't ever be tradable on this contract until maybe the final season when it's an expiring deal of little negative and little positive value. It would be better for the Blazers to get him off the roster now and save a couple bucks.

Let's get Grant off the team!!!

I don't see the need. If he's playing bad Chauncey needs to bench him. If he's playing well, then play him

he's owed 103M. That's more than 34M/year for 3 years. He's not going to give back enough of that to warrant the dead salary

Nah...If Cronin realizes he's not worth keeping, then Cronin can tell Billups it's OK to bring him off the bench.

TL, DR.

No
Stupid idea

I think I've said this before, and I'm half joking, but maybe Grant would be more light on his feet and not trip over himself all the time if he wore different shoes. His shoes look like the shoes we had in the 90's, the really big bulky kind. Those things gotta be heavy for his skinny bird legs.

Nah.
Play him as a starter and get some good minutes for him and look to trade him at the deadline or next summer.
You have to look at the big picture. Trying to buy him out now would be a bad move that would hurt the team more in the long run.

Bad ways. You do not give both Scoot and Shae, only one. You also expect that one of the attractions for Giannis to actually play in Portland is Jrue, so again, you do not give him up.

In the very unlikely event that there is a Giannis to Portland trade, JG's salary is the biggest one you expect to come out of Portland.

It will likely be JG, one of Scoot/Shae, maybe another prospect / filler and the Bucks own picks / swaps back.

That might be enough. It might not. It's hard to say what the market is right now but there are some teams out there that have a shit ton of draft picks available.

If I am the Blazers GM, that's where I stop. You need one high-end prospect from Shae/Scoot, you probably need DC next to Giannis so Yang probably needs to go out as the 2nd prospect, likely someone like Kris / Roup - so you basically give the Bucks young players instead of draft picks - You only do this if you can compete for a championship with Giannis, so staying with one high-end prospect (Let's say Shae), Deni, Tou, Jrue, DC and Giannis with however Dame looks like when he comes back and whatever is left /filled - that's a team that has a chance to contend. Otherwise, why do it?

Giannis is a forward....a power forward. Grant going out makes a lot of sense because of his position and salary. But the Blazers won't be able to afford Giannis, Camara (on his new deal), and Avdija. So, I'd think one of Avdija/Camara need to go with Grant. I'd be inclined to do Grant+Avdija+Scoot+Yang+only part of their draft assets, assuming the Blazers were determined to add a 31 year old PF. If they could get him for less, great. Personally, I'd want the Blazers to go after a younger star if they were giving away that much

And are we even going to be able to offer him as much as hopefully he deserves or could get elsewhere. Not sure how that stuff works.

None of our players have value anyway in the trade market. Thats just the reality.

Does Deni have the best contract, team wise, in the league?

As far as return on investment?

in terms of salary vs impact, he might have best contract as long as you exclude rookie-scale deals

most likely, not till he becomes UFA. That's the drawback of his contract: the Blazers can't offer an extension (unless they had major cap-space, which they won't) worthy of his impact because of CBA rules and his annual diminishing salary. So yeah, the odds are he'll end up UFA and there are always risks with that situation. But the Blazers can offer him a max base salary, like any team, but higher step raises...and an extra year I believe

It would be hard to argue against him unless you consider guys on rookie contracts. What is he, 25 years old? But, those rookies will all be due huge raises in the near future and teams won't want to give them away for pennies..

WTF. That's not true. Not trying to derail this thread... but Deni and Toumani definitely have a ton of trade value. And Sharpe also. But I hope we dont trade any of them.

Lol. Real value. They are good for us, like Deni was good for Washington.

Its fine, im not mad. Its just the truth. We dont have pieces for game changers, so we can only hope they do well here. Good luck to us.

I cannot find the thread about camera and sharp extension so I'm posting it here. shadon's not going to be cheap.
