Operation get Brandon some help!

As in, get a legit second option.

I don't know how it would happen, but the one player that I would like to see us show some interest in: Rudy Gay.

Roy's presence gave the team an emotional lift but, hindsight 20/20, it was a fucking stupid move on whomever gave Roy the go-ahead.

Our bench has holes. We need to move Rudy and Przybilla. I'd even look to trade Martell.

The three things I would focus on this summer:

Backup point guard - Bayless is a shooting guard.

Backup small forward - I'd like to see us get a slasher. Someone who is good at getting to the hole and running on the break. I would like to get a super athletic player for this position.

Backup power forward - post scoring. We need someone who thrives in the post.

If we fill those three spots, I think we are a much improved team next season.

Gotta find a PG to fit next to Roy.

Great season Miller, but....ehhh. It hurts you can't shoot the 3.

Building the offense around Brandon isolation plays got us to this point. Our players just sit around the 3-point like twiddling their thumbs. We need a legit PG that can operate on the break and set players up, even when Grant Hill is checking them.

The bottom line is we need easy buckets, not endless jumpshots by streaky shooters. This seems to elude Nate's skill set as a coach.

Trade Aldridge and whatever else they want for Bosch. Somehow find a decent young PG who can play defense and either shoot threes or actually finish when driving to the basket. I don't think we have the assets to do that, so we may have to gamble on somebody out of college and wait.

GET A LOW POST SCORER!

That really should be the priority. We got nothing easy. Roy was a fraction of himself while the rest of the team took jumper after jumper.

Al Jefferson, anyone?

Dream Offseason would be

Pryz + Rudy + Picks + Filler for Al Jefferson
LMA for Devin Harris (after the get Wall)

Harris
Roy
Batum
Jefferson
Oden

Bench:
Camby
Miller
Whatever else

We have a legit 2nd option, at least sometimes. His name is Brandon Roy.

What the team needs is an elite first option.

Whomever lands the #1 overall pick, sell them on Greg's potential and/or drug them :devilwink:

Also, no more Euro's in the draft. Only one has paid off, Batum, while the rest want to stay in Europe, the Nate McMillan effect.

Offseason thread?

lol, we're gonna make at least a couple threads for every little news piece that comes about about POR.

I thought Aldridge was great for us tonight. He didn't shoot well but he commanded double teams and that is why Rudy and Webster were able to get going. He also had 5 blocks. Without LMA, we get swept in this series, every loss by 35 points or more.

Draft Jimmer Fredette -- The best shooter in the draft

A prolific scorer who has developing point guard skills ... Has tremendous shooting ability. It's the aspect of his game that will undeniably get him serious looks from the NBA level ... An extremely effective player who understands shot selection and taking what the defense gives him ... Has a solid first step and the ability to blow by defenders and get into the paint ... Shows very good vision and passing ability, particularly driving and dishing the ball ... Very patient passer, never rushes his decisions allowing openings to materialize ... Has great speed and quickness for a mid-major player ... Has a strong frame with excellent strength that he puts to good use as he's not afraid of contact ... Very tough both mentally and physically. A competitor who will battle tooth and nail and wants the big shots at the end of games ... Has great accuracy shooting the ball and range. He is highly proficient at creating shots for himself, with a very quick release and use of change of direction ... Equally effective at isolating on opponents and spotting up for shots ... Has a quick release: He takes very little time to get the ball under his elbow and away, and squares to the basket in rhythm in a blink of an eye ... Has good finishing ability with touch while on the move ... Offensively there are few holes to his game ... An extremely hard worker. His conditioning sets him apart from the competition and allows him to shoot the ball incredibly well at the end of games ...

LMA + Pryz + Miller for Bosh and Calderon, IMO Calderon is a better fit here than Miller as he's a great shooter, yeah his D is weak but Andre's is not that great either. We keep Bayless to backup PG and SG, Rudy we can do whatever with. Calderon has 3 yrs left and is I think 5 yrs younger than Miller

This thread is awesome. A page into it and we'd already covered a lot of the rational points, and made our way thoroughly into irrational.

Considered by some NBA scouts to be the most underrated prospect in Europe, this season has clearly been a coming out party for Serbian center Miroslav Raduljica, now draft-eligible as a 1988 born international. We got to watch him play on four separate occasions over the course of our trip, and each time came away impressed by a different facet of his game.

The intrigue around Raduljica has to start with the physical attributes he brings to the table. Showing excellent size for the center position, to go along with a strong frame, a solid wingspan, great hands, and decent athleticism, Raduljica passes the initial test for an NBA center. He runs the floor well, is a fairly mobile player, and is capable of getting up off his feet and finishing plays with a strong dunk, particularly when he has a moment to gather himself, even if he’s not what you would call an incredibly explosive athlete.

Very much capable of operating in the low post, Raduljica has an array of moves he can use to get an efficient shot off, helping him shoot an excellent 57% from the field. His footwork is solid, showing nice spin-moves, pivots, jump-hooks, drop-steps, turn-around jumpers and the ability to utilize shot-fakes, Raduljica is a fundamentally sound player who can score with either hand and has very nice touch around the basket. He is a very good passer finding the open man when doubled, at times making some pretty spectacular passes, and generally seems to have a nice feel for operating on the block

Has the physical attributes to be an NBA player Raduljica's a skilled and mobile player with effective moves on the low-post and a high basketball IQ Has a good offensive understanding, doing a good job of finding teammates when the defense collapses ... When he puts his mind to it, he can be highly effective on the offensive end ... Likes using his right hand baby-hook shot; and can finish with both hands around the basket Shows solid body control while finishing around the rim Raduljica can also hit mid-range jumpers with very good accuracy Will step out and knock down 15-18 feet jumpers any time he can He is capable of putting the ball on the floor and beating his defender of the dribble He is a decent rebounder; positioning himself well for rebounds due to his body Raduljica possesses excellent footwork on post moves and positioning for rebounds Solid defender; his strength helps him battle against opponents in the paint Runs the court fairly well Good in transition Raduljica has a lot of potential to develop into a solid player

Just because you don't like the Spanish player doesn't mean you should start name calling... oh... THAT RUDY

Donatas Motiejunas
7'1.5" 226 lbs
PF
20 years old
Projection: Early-Mid lotto
NBA Comparison: Andrea Bargnani/Toni Kukoc

Versatile lefty bigman with a high ceiling ... Has a lot of potential due to his size, agility and offensive development ... A finesse 4-man with excellent versatility, but shows the toughness to play inside with contact ... Shows a strong ability to run the floor and change directions, start and stop ... Has great legs (strong) and feet (quick) ... Has inside/outside ability with the ability to defend inside and play with his back to the basket, as well as knock down shots on the perimeter ... His outside shot has both range and consistency, and he has begun to develop some excellent moves including a jump hook, a turnaround fadeaway as well as fakes to draw opponents off their feet and excellent footwork ... Shows a competitive fire. He has a strong desire to win and improve, he just needs to show that at all times ... Gets off the floor quickly and has solid explosiveness ... A solid shot blocker ... Comfortable handling the ball when necessary to break the press and has solid vision and passing ability ... Has a very good body and appears that he will be able to add upperbody strength and become a solid rebounder and interior post player at the NBA level

21 pts, 5-15 fg, 1-2 3p, 10-14 ft, 8 reb, 3 ast, 2 to, 29 min -- On Friday in practice he and Zubcic went at each other in the 5-5 half court offense. Both were able to get by the other off the dribble for baskets, Motiejunas' coming in the form of an explosive dunk, while Zubcic went left for a lay in.

A number of scouts had come in from Portsmouth (PIT) for the Friday practice and game, and Motiejunas was extremely impressive in both. His lefty midrange and outside shot is highly effective. He was also handling the ball in the full court as they worked on breaking the press and made excellent passes.

His start/stop speed and agility is extremely impressive for a 7 footer, although he's definitely a 4 and not a 3. He'll likely be a quick, finesse 4 ala Chris Bosh. He needs to add strength and get tougher in the paint.

Although the USA team's bigmen took the weekend off, Motiejunas showed the ability to play with American athletes and appears to have the most long term potential of any bigman prospect in the game.

A player I'd like to see KP trade up for. We are in position to take a flyer on a player with big potential who may be a few years away from contributing.
