FWIW Givony (Draftexpress) doesn't think Gobert is an NBA player.

He said the same thing about Thabeet a year before he went #2 overall.

He obviously has seen him play a lot more than the rest of us.

Man, I don't see how anyone saw Thabeet as a legit NBA player. I was so pissed off when we drafted him that I thought about not supporting the team anymore, even before that stiff played a minute of NBA basketball. Anyone who had watched him play NCAA ball knew he had no shot at competing on the NBA level. I don't get how a bunch of paid "scouts" missed on that one.

It reminded me of being at the Grizzlies "draft party" they held at our arena in our second year. The entire arena was chanting "Boozer!" in the second round, and they took Robert Archibald, a 6th man from Illinois that was projected undrafted. The Hasheem Thabeet pick is in the same vein. If all of the fans can see where the value really is, why can't some highly paid scouts?

That's pretty much what was going on when we passed on Faried. People on this board were PISSED.

I was more pissed about Faried than I was about Blair, and that's saying something.

I'm becoming a really big fan of Otto Porter. The guy can do it all and is very versatile on the defensive end. He's been compared to Stacey Augmon, I think he has a more rounded offensive game than Augmon did.

Yeah, guy is all over the place in this G'Town-Syrcause game. Looks like a poor man's Batum.

do you guys think noel is gonna stay another year? if he goes into the draft, you think he would slip to us in the late lotto cause of the injury??

Doubt it. There's still almost no chance he falls out of the top 3. Even with the injury, would you take any of Muhammed, McLemore, Zeller, Smart, Len over him? Maybe you could make a case for Zeller, less so for Muhammed, not so much for the others. Next years draft will be better and he'll have more to lose even if he could probably use the extra year of college.

agree with this. Seems really unlikely he'd have a shot at the #1 pick next season, so why delay the money a year.

From anyone who's seen him, what makes Wiggins different than Harrison Barnes, or Shabazz Mohammed, or any of the other high schoolers who were locks to be #1 as a HS senior and then weren't on Draft Night?

Watching Indiana-Minnesota, Mbakwe would be a nice get with one of our 2nd round picks.

6' 8" PF with super long arms. Athletic, great rebounder, decent shot blocker. He's not going to be much of a post-up guy but can finish and is showing an ability to hit the mid range J.

Reminds me of Turiaf.

Who is it, Fez? For some reason whatever you posted doesn't show up on my iPad.

As far as sleepers, I REALLY like Dieng from Louisville right now (would fit good as a role playing defensive center whose best attributes are on defense and helping to facilitate the pick-and-roll on offense). I'd love if we could get a pick in the 20's for him, but, unfortunately, I think he could end up going a little higher once the draft rolls around.

Has grown 3" in the last ten months.
Project with a good feel for the game.
Definitely has that Batum-like build.
Years away.

The last time DX dubbed someone as the "biggest sleeper" this early was Paul George.

Not much upside for Mbakwe as he's already 24.

Yeah, he's not really an upside pick though. The guy's a niche role player, and he's good at his niche. I'd definitely look at him in the 2nd round, depending on who else is still on the board.

Don't you guys have defensive problems right now?

We have depth problems. If its a late 2nd I'm fine with it. I'm kinda intrigued by this Nate Wolters kid though if we have a late 2nd. I watched him a couple years ago go into Hec Ed and whoop the shit outta UW.

The bigger issue with the frontcourt is post scoring and drawing fouls. It's nonexistent.

Exactly.

I look at his age as a positive. We need guys that can produce off the bench and being on an extremely cheap contract is a nice bonus.

Mbakwe is not going to be a standout defender but we're going to need a guy like JJ off the bench to just rebound and play with energy and I think he could be that kind of guy.

I don't know about that.

Post scoring is something a lot of teams are lacking and I remember reading somewhere that even with Stotts moving LaMarcus out of the post more, he was still at the top or near it in points scored off post ups. As far as the foul drawing issues, part of that blame can go to Dame, Wes and Nic who all have pretty perimeter oriented games.

The best play of the game was Mbakwe putting Zeller on his ass -

Zeller is likely to keep slipping, and I hope that if we do end up getting our pick that he doesn't slip to us

I don't know--as much as I enjoyed seeing him stuff Zeller, I feel like I'd be wary of him.

From what the announcers were saying last night, that was BY FAR the best Mbakwe had played all year, not just in terms of overall performance, but specifically in terms of being active, engaged, and energetic.

That performance last night seemed like the kind of game that elevates a second-round player into a first-round spot--the kind of game that an owner or an ignorant GM might point to as justification for over-ruling scouts who know better.

Mbakwe should be picked in the 2nd round but is a PF, we already have two, and I think a guy like Corey Jefferson is a better pick for a PF in the 2nd round.
I haven't seen a lot of Indiana this year, for some reason every time I start watching one of their games it's already in the final minutes. I have never seen anything too impressive from Zeller yet, but it is a small sample size. Anyway, the guy I like most so far in this draft is the one that got injured - Narlens Noel.
Shabazz Mohammed I've also got to see lately, I see him as a poor-man's James Harden. McLemore I was never impressed with, saw Kansas (against Iowa state maybe?) without Noel and Mclemore was invisible. Don't remember paying attention to him earlier in the year, either. Their other guard, Alijah something, had a fantastic game, though.

BUMP

Scouts have been flocking to Greece to see this kid. He's a major talent (apparently) and could sneak into the lotto.

That's crazy considering he came out of freaking nowhere.

A SF that could top out at 6'11"-7'0"
