It's a fun exercise to determine fit, I suppose. But in reality, I care more about just adding as much raw talent as possible now. Gotta go BPA, even if that means trading the pick for an established player that is better than the potential draftee.

So pretty much every prospect outside of McCollum is a bad fit for us.

I agree with some of his stuff but didn't he have Gobert at #3 - that's ridiculous IMO, I think Gobert may fall to 15-20

Fit? Fit?

B.P.A.

Can't make trades to improve your team if you have no valued assets.

Pure speculation department: The Hawks are rumored to be interested in packaging the 17th and 18th picks to move up.

IF they offered the Blazers those 2 picks for #10, would you do it? Given that this is one of those drafts where there seems to be minimal difference the talent available at 10 and what will be available in the 15-20 range, I would do it. You would still have a very good shot at guys like Hardaway, Rice, Franklin or Crabbe.....guys who really aren't bigger gambles than somebody like Shabazz.
No. I don't buy that all these players are "equal". General rule of thumb in basketball, where individual talent is so much more important than in other team sports: He who ends up with the best player, wins. Don't trade the better player for two lesser players.

Always taken with a grain of salt as its from Bleacher Report:

The draft lottery on May 21 will give a clearer indication, but Portland is currently slotted for the No. 10 pick in the draft—a position in which it will likely have to trade up to obtain the athletic perimeter scorer. Should the Trail Blazers not crack the top five when the ping pong balls are drawn, Olshey may have to get creative to trade up.

This year’s draft isn’t being lauded for its elite talent, though, and with the recent success of non-lottery picks like Kenneth Faried and Chandler Parsons, there may be a bevy of teams hoping to add extra picks by moving back in the first round—like the Charlotte Bobcats.

The question, however, is whether the player that the Blazers' front office believes to be the best player is expected to be drafted 10-12, or still be available at 17.

Also, your 1>2 axiom doesn't always hold true. The Thunder minus Durant is basically equal to the Grizzlies minus ZBo/Gasol. In that case, the two lesser players are better than the one greater player.

Sorry if this has been said before but has anybody see this about Shabazz??

Notes: Shabazz is afflicted with Tourette's Syndrome, though has seemingly dealt with it quite well. Still there are side effects sometimes associated with Tourettes that must be considered (depression, OCD, ADD) ...

I did see a little something about it here somewhere.

Im trying to be PC and I know its not funny for the people that deal with it but there but there are so many jokes running through my head about if technicals are fair for him and his language getting the team fired.

All jokes aside he is one of my guys or as another thread is titled "Your Guys". Im not 100% sold on him but something tells me he is going to be pretty good.

Its not hard to see why the Blazers might be interested in Oladipo. I was most impressed with his ability to finish with either hand.

Oh my... Please no Olshey... The weaknesses and the red flags are glaring.

I'd really like to see us trade out of this draft.

These videos are too long to watch during work. I only lasted through his strengths. And those were obvious as well. He can score in a variety of ways.

Fast forward to his weaknesses on your break...

Yeah that video made him look bad. But then the weakness part also made Oladipo look bad as well, and I would love to draft Oladipo.

I do agree there are red flags for Shabazz. It is Olshey's job to make sure Shabazz is addressing them and can improve. Every player in this draft has to get better at something or they will never start for anyone. Management has to figure out who are the most likely ones to keeping working hard. I think Shabazz is one of them.

I don't think the weaknesses part made him look bad at all. It made him look like he needs to work on some things but not "bad".
He has intangibles and is a much better teammate than Shabazz.

I have a good feeling about Gobert. That kind of length and supposed agility is pretty rare.
He could be a game-changer immediately for us defensively.

What about trading down in the draft. Assuming we cannot find a good trade for an established center, and we aren't in love with BPA at 10, what about trading #10 to the Hawks for #17 and #18? Depending on which mock you read two of these players will be available:

Gobert
Saric
Caldwell-Pope
Dieng
Hardaway Jr.

IMO there is a drop off after #10, somebody will drop to our pick.

I would not trade down.

I agree with your basic point - but I wouldn't touch Gobert. There is minimal evidence the guy can actually play basketball. Sadly, that often becomes an afterthought this time of year.

Based on zero knowledge, other than the small bits I've read, my two choices are Shabazz and Gobert. Typically I wouldn't pick a player like Shabazz, but right now I'm willing to take a bit of a chance given that (a) our draft position isn't that great in a "weak" draft, and (b) the lack of SG talent in the league. Also, Gobert looks skinny but his height/reach is really intriguing - also, I'm assuming there'd be built-in chemistry with Nic. At only 20 he could still grow another inch or two, and should be able to put some muscle on that frame.

edit: To clarify, this is if we're picking at #10. I'll probably revise post-lotto once I start looking at players a bit more.
