How does OKC get into the top five? Call Orlando (2) or Charlotte (4) and offer 12, 29, 32 and future Dallas first-rounder. Done. Len to OKC

I think that is wishful thinking, particularly given....

Darnell Mayberry ‏@DarnellMayberry 19m
Excuse me. Got the protection on the picks mixed up. The Dallas pick is top 20 protected through 2017. Still a future first, though.

Blazers say GM Neil Olshey is "unavailable for comment" re: LaMarcus Aldridge reports/rumors. Olshey has been in draft prep media blackout

lol...ya think?

Another 2nd round sleeper that POR worked out and may take:

http://hoopshype.com/past_workouts.htm

James Ennis
James Ennis, Long Beach State: Ennis played at a couple of JCs before enrolling in LBSU as a junior for the 2011-12 season. He was a star at the JC level, scoring over 1000 points in his 2 years, winning first team all-conference honors as a freshman at Oxnard College and as a sophomore at Ventura College. He also high jumped 6’11”, which shows he’s a pretty darned good athlete. I don’t have any comprehensive JC stats, so I’ll just post the numbers for his two seasons at LBSU:

His junior year he came to a 49er team that was dominated by 3 seniors, Casper Ware, Larry Anderson and TJ Robinson. Ennis finished 4th in scoring as a junior, but was a very efficient scorer and a much better passer. With the core of the team gone, Ennis took over the scoring lead as a senior, keeping his efficiency and defense solid. The passing did decline some.

What I look for when I look at the entire career of a player like Ennis is whether extenuating circumstances kept him from emerging as a prospect until his senior year, or if the senior year was something of an aberration, making it possible it was a little more of a fluke. In Ennis’s case I think it’s clear there were circumstances that kept him hidden. Playing at a junior college, even if a player excels as Ennis did for two seasons, keeps any player out of the spotlight. His first year at LBSU, he played a supporting role to 3 seniors who were entrenched as the core and excelled, hitting 66% of his 2-pointers, while defending and passing well. As a senior he finally stepped into the lead role and was one of the best SFs in the nation. The fact that he excelled in whatever role he was in, be it JC star, super role player, or lead scorer tells me that James Ennis probably could have stood out immediately at any college program and there’s nothing fluky or surprising about his great senior year.

So how good of a prospect is James Ennis? Defense is his strength. In his 2 seasons at LBSU he was over 2.0 S40 and 1.0 B40 both years. His long wingspan just adds to the potential. He’s also something of a sleeper as a scorer, with a couple seasons of incredible 2PP marks and a solid 35% from behind the arc. It would be nice if he were a more aggressive scorer though. He only tied for the team lead in FG attempts, despite leading the team in scoring by a significant margin. I would also like him better if the rebound rate were a little higher. He’s also a smidge older than most seniors, turning 23 a week after the draft.

Using the low end/high end game, at the very least James Ennis looks like a quality NBA defender capable of hitting the 3-pointer at an acceptable rate. That in itself is a player worthy of a round one look. His high end is an all-star SF. That’s a long shot at this point, but considering his defense and the potential he has shown as a scorer it is one well worth taking at some point in the 2nd half of round one. James Ennis is one of the sleepers of the 2013 draft.

He seems to rate very well with analytics crowd, I think this shows some of the influence that analytics plays in POR decision making

Magic has nothing of note going on trade-wise and expect to use the 2nd selection in tomorrow's draft, sources say.

Doesn't appear than MIN or OKC are having much luck via trade....If Len goes #1...do they go Oladipo or Noel?

Glen Rice Jr, seems to have some late brewing buzz. There has been talk that the NBA’s lone D-League draft prospect could sneak into the first round again. For most of May, Rice was pegged as a first-round talent and then other players started to knock him down. As the draft approaches, teams seem to be a little higher on Rice, mainly because he has proven himself at a higher level. It is still unclear where Rice lands, but some say the Brooklyn Nets are interested as are the New York Knicks. If the late buzz is true, Rice could find himself in the late part of the first round and that would be a nice rebound for a player whose stock seemed to be going the other way.

NBAtv mock had him @ #20 to CHI

The Magic have reportedly narrowed their shopping list down to three players – Victor Oladipo, Nerlens Noel and surprisingly Cody Zeller. The Magic will likely make their decision once they are on the clock. Orlando also seems to have the framework of a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers done that would land them Eric Bledsoe and Caron Butler in exchange for guard Arron Afflalo and possibly last year’s 19th pick Andrew Nicholson. There has been talk of a protected 2015 draft pick heading to L.A. as part of the deal, however it seems the Magic may be unwilling to part with draft assets unless another contract is moved off in the deal.

Sources close to the Clippers/Magic situation say that the possible deal hinges on the Clippers agreeing to the deal more so than Orlando. The Magic have also been aggressive in shopping their other options and have entertained offers on the No. 2 overall pick as well.

Do not be surprised if Orlando takes the Minnesota Timberwolves up on swapping the No. 2 for the No. 9 and the No. 26. The Wolves are said to be very high on Victor Oladipo.

Former Louisville big man Gorgui Dieng may be in for a long night on Thursday. Word is that several teams have flagged his knees as a problem.

Dieng was not red flagged at the NBA draft combine in Chicago so this may very well be a small handful of teams looking for a reason to pass on a legit NBA-caliber big man.

Perry Jones III was flagged similarly last year and took a massive draft day tumble, going from a top-10 prospect all the way to 28 to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

It’s unlikely Dieng falls into the second round, but if he does it is because teams were scared off by his knees.

This could be the reason why Dieng is not rated higher...on NBAtv they were talking about how good he was and that he should be rated right behind Noel......No mention of knee issues, if this is true, then he could be an end of 1st\early 2nd pick...

According to Chad Ford’s most recent mock draft, the Milwaukee Bucks have narrowed their search down to three candidates: point guards Shane Larkin and Dennis Schroeder and scoring forward Glen Rice, Jr.

Larkin and Schroeder make a lot of sense if Milwaukee expects to lose Monta Ellis and/or Brandon Jennings to free agency this summer, because they’ll certainly need depth at point guard if that ends up happening. However, Schroeder may not even play in the NBA this season, which would be friendly to the Bucks’ cap space for this summer but not so much for their rotation if both of their top guards leave and no replacement is available to come in behind them.

Schroeder, if that is who they really want, should be available outside of the lottery, but there’s growing interest in Larkin as a lottery pick, despite his small size. If he goes to a team like Utah or Dallas before Milwaukee even gets a chance at him, the choice for the Bucks could come down to Schroeder or Rice, with whom they’ve had some successful meetings. Very few mocks have had Rice projected as high as pick No. 15, but without some of his off-the-court issues, that’s probably right about where he’d be picked.

The Charlotte Bobcats are likely to have a lot of options to available to them when they use their fourth overall selection on Thursday night, with Ben McLemore, Anthony Bennett, Alex Len, and possibly even Nerlens Noel all potentially available to them. However, ESPN Insider’s Chad Ford tweeted on Wednesday that he’s hearing the Bobcats are seriously interested in a surprise draftee: Indiana’s Cody Zeller.

“There’s a growing belief that Cody Zeller is seriously in play at No. 4 to the Bobcats along with Alex Len, Anthony Bennett & Ben McLemore,” said Ford. ”Bobcats GM Rich Cho is a big Zeller fan. He’s pushing that direction but getting resistance.”

That would be a surprise at #4 and shake up the draft a little (good for POR I think), ORL apparently likes Zeller but would trade down (MIN?) to get him it appears...

Cleveland offered New Orleans this year’s top overall pick in exchange for point guard Greivis Vasquez, the No. 6 overall pick and a 2014 first-round pick, according to sources.

Could this be to take Len?

Chris Mannix ‏@ChrisMannixSI 5h
Hearing stronger indications that Cleveland likes Maryland's Alex Len with the No. 1 pick.

Chris Mannix @ChrisMannixSI
Oklahoma City continues to be aggressive. Trying to move up, down and/or out of draft. Asking for two future No. 1's to move out of No. 12.

That is an insane demand IMO....

Team exec on Shabbaz Muhammad: "Whoever gets him is going to be really happy." Most see him going 13-20, but Sac-Det-Minn like him, too.

Alex Kennedy @AlexKennedyNBA about 9 minutes ago
This time last year, Shabazz Muhammad was so hyped up that he was overrated. Now, he has been criticized so much that he's underrated.

I tend to agree with these assessments...

I've always said that it depends on what they think they are getting with Shabazz. If they want a playmaker, defender - nope.

Melo/Kobe-like scorer? Bingo.

Jacson Bevens ‏@JacsonBevens 5h
@kpelton If POR trades Aldridge to CHI, what's a realistic return for Blazers that won't make fans want to shoot themselves? Noah+1st? Deng?

Kevin Pelton ‏@kpelton 4h
@JacsonBevens I think you're looking for the future CHA pick and Nikola Mirotic.

Kevin Pelton ‏@kpelton 4h
@JacsonBevens Probably not. If they do trade Aldridge -- and I don't think they will -- Cleveland's assts are more appealing.

I agree 1) I doubt LA gets traded during this draft (though he will be dealt, either mid year trade deadline or next offseason) 2) That if they did trade LA now it would more likely be to CLE (or OKC? Ibaka/Lamb/maybe #12)

You think he can be a scoring champion for an NBA playoff team?

And on night before draft, three people of importance within Cavs organization have differing views on #1, sources say.

Bill Ingram @TheRocketGuy now
One of the more bizarre tidbits to surface today is the LaMarcus Aldridge "trade request." That's not how LA rolls.

Dwain Price @DwainPrice 2 minutes ago
The #Mavs don't want to keep the 13th pick. But if they do, it could be between Michael Carter-Williams, Dennis Schroeder and Kelly Olynyk.

Good info here....

http://m.si.com/3099127/more-questions-than-answers-2/

Shabazz strong workouts @ #7, #8 & #9

MCW may go @ #4 to CHA

Zeller a lock for the top 10

OKC\POR LA exchange talk....this to me makes the most sense for both teams...

What for though? I know you were really high on Lamb last year but he couldn't even sniff the rotation in OKC and Zach Lowe a month or so ago was on the BS Report talking about horrible reports about Lambs practice habbits coming out of OKC.
I guess a package of 12,Lamb, Jackson, Jones, Ilbaka is fairly good but there is no way they include Ilbaka so 12,lamb, jackson, jones isn't a great deal but its not a bad one. Whatever deal with OKC is one that will probably be there near the trade deadline next year as well so we wouldn't need to jump on it now.

Ibaka + ?

The problem IMO with a package built around Ibaka is you now have 2 very well paid role players in Ibaka and Batum. Not sure that's the best way to build a team.

I can't remember a less attractive #1 pick since the Olawakhandi draft!

yeah, that draft with 4 all-stars in the top 10 in addition to solid players like Bibby, Lafrentz, Rashard Lewis, etc.
