The 2014 NBA draft is less than 12 hours away!

I want to go on record and say that I think Parker will be the best player out of this draft. He would be the best player for a team already contending, wiggins will definitely need time and development.

Cleveland really needs to not mess this up.

I expect to hear the words "Portland Trailblazers" spoken in relation to one of the draft picks.

This is a draft where I can see some one very under rated go late or not at all, I don't think a team looking to add a piece needs to secure a lottery pick to do so.

Why do you think it will be bittersweet? Because of a move or just because it's such a big draft and you don't expect us to be involved?

Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread

Would not be surprised at all to see some heated competition to sign the 10 or so rotation guys that won't be taken in the 2nd round because the PHI's of the world will be taking draft-n-stashers like Ondrej Belvin or Moustapha Fall. If only Kahn were still here--I'd scour the Qatari League rankings for their 6th-man of the Year, but alas...

Meanwhile, guys like LaQuinton Ross and James Michael MacAdoo will likely be available for Summer League teams. And who's going to get Sim Bhullar? 7'5, 375 don't grow on trees!

Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread

I think he's right, in that it will be pretty boring for Blazer homers, unless we get a first-rounder, which means a team favorite will likely be going away.

Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread

I say bittersweet because we dont have a pick (at this time) and we really dont "need" another young player but thats kind of a good thing too. And I just have a feeling that we may be due finally to not make a splash in the draft this year like years past. Its a mixed bag of emotions. I think im going to go into this year with that expectation of nothing for the Blazers so I can be pleasantly surprised if something happens as opposed to years past when I went into expecting something to happen. Its just different for us than normal. Almost like watching the playoffs until this year.

Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread

And as much as this draft is loaded it will be interesting to see which team reach way way too high for a player.

I hear you 100% buddy. I want the team to win, but I love everything about this time of year. Real catch 22.

And to see if it becomes a frenzy. Are trades going to be going from 1 team to another for the rights to the 24th pick. The number 19 for the number 20. Championship contenders offering quality rotational players for picks?

I'm looking extremely forward to tonight. Especially considering we don't have a pick. I can't imagine how excited I would be right now if we were a lottery team...

Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread

I like that in the NBA (vice the NFL) that you can trade up after a guy's been drafted. For instance, once Manziel went to CLE that was it. But if, say, Wiggins gets to 4 somehow and ORL picks him just to have the asset, there could be a night-long bidding war of teams trying to pry him away.

Excited and scared shitless too. This is a draft where if you mess up it could really REALLY cost you. Picks 5-15 .... (shudder) good luck

More proof of how horrible of an organization Cleveland still is. Lebron will stay away from there. Why are they calling a top 5 pick for a workout on draft day? Shouldn't Cleveland have their shit together before the final hour?

Update 10:11 a.m.

• ESPN reports that the Cavaliers were calling around shopping both of Orlando's top-12 picks Wednesday night, indicating that they're considering moving the No.1 and then moving what they get from it.

• The Cavs reportedly still don't know what they're going to do if they keep it, either.

First Update 7:51 a.m.

• While most expect Joel Embiid to fall no farther than No. 7 after his foot injury was revealed, one executive told the Washingon Post that the expects Embiid to fall out of the top 10.

• Boston reportedly would lean towards Andrew Wiggins over Jabari Parker if they somehow nabbed the No.1 pick through trade.

• The Cavs were trying Wednesday to get Dante Exum in for a last-minute workout because, you know, this is the Cavs and there's no way they make a decision on what they're going to do before the clock hits zero for the No. 1 pick.

• The Knicks are reportedly trying to flip Shane Larkin, acquired in Wednesday's Tyson Chandler trade, to get into the first round.

• The Bucks are reportedly looking at Giannis Antetokounmpo's brother Thanasis in the second round. Thanasis played in the D-League last season.

• The Boston Globe reports that multiple teams are trying to buy copies of Joel Embiid's medical report.

• James Young says that he thinks he might be the guy for Philly at the No. 10 pick.

• The Celtics and Magic got Marcus Smart in for a second workout this week, but the Celtics couldn't get Julius Randle in.

Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread

If we do make a pick you could be pretty sure that some other guys on the roster will be traded later, maybe in a sign and trade

Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA
Cleveland and Orlando nowhere on a possible deal for the No. 1 pick, team sources tell Yahoo Sports. "Total bullshit," one executive says.

Here is one certainty: Philadelphia has everyone guessing. What the Sixers do at No. 3 could dictate the rest of the top 10.

Remember NBA draft followers, after 2 p.m. the draft order is set for tonight. So when trades happen, players will wear wrong hats.

Draft note: Hearing there are several teams angling to move up for Doug McDermott. Kings pick could be in play for it.

Luke McBabbit's better than him cousin?

Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread

Copycat league. Phil Jackson, Rick Carlisle (and even Spoelstra, if you think about it) are trying to fill their teams up with shooters. Stotts and McHale had pretty good improvements doing the same (though HOU was more in the "3's and dunks" camp while POR worked a lot of midrange). I think you'll see the "pure shooters" in this draft have a run made on them, whether or not they'd be normal picks in late lotto.

Luke Babbitt's waiting by the phone at 12:01am July 1, poor guy.

Hearing: Toronto in hunt to acquire Memphis' No. 22 pick tonight's draft but would have to take back Tayshaun Prince via trade to do so

Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine
Potential swap would send John Salmons and No. 59 to Memphis for Tayshaun Prince and No. 22 and put Raptors in range to pick Tyler Ennis

Re: Official 2014 NBA Draft thread

probably an After-July-10 scenario....TOR doesn't have cap room until after the moratorium. Right now they'd have to take back 4.8M or so.

Update to potential Raps/Grizz trade: Deal would more likely send No. 37 with John Salmons to Memphis for Tayshaun Prince and No. 22 pick
