Malik Fitts is a guy who could be had in the second round that has all the tools to be a good wing player in the NBA...

I wonder if we even have room for a second rounder.

We only have 10 players under contract for next season, add the draft picks and we will still have 3 spots.

Assuming they wanna carry 15 guys. I’m also pretty confident Gabriel will be back. They’ll also have to make decisions on their two way guys. Hoard is probably good enough to be on an active roster. So you’re looking at quite a few young players already on a team that’ll be looking to contend.

I think Gabriel and Hoard will battle for a roster spot at Summer League

That's the only reason he won't be a top-3 pick though. Look how far Brandon Clarke fell last year.

After trading Skal and if you get your wish with Whiteside being gone, there's no big depth on the roster right now.
The problem with Toppin is when I watch him in a game this year I question how good defender he is and believe me the way this year turn last thing we need another guy that can't defend.

I think his defense is fine. He's a little slow laterally but makes up for it with good positioning and anticipation. Off ball he is rarely caught out of position and is a really good help defender. Unlike our current lineup he boxes out nearly every time a shot goes up too which is rare for someone with that athleticism.

Is lateral quickness is slow when I watch him I didn't get see his help defense that game so I am just going by one game.

The more I read about this draft, the less optimistic I get. This seems like a good year to either grab a guy with a high floor or roll the pick over for a future pick. We really don't need another high risk/long term project.

Caveat: if the team has doubts about Nurk's future, then taking a gamble on a big man (EG the kid from USC) becomes more attractive.

Kawhi, PG, and Dame had those same questions, game is game. We will get a good look in the Tournament this season.

They could always have their 2nd round pick be one of their 2-way contracts next year too if they need a roster spot. Or draft someone that might not come over next season.

This guy looks fun:

Is Leandro Bolmaro the draft's second-best prospect in Europe?
The 19-year-old, 6-foot-7 Argentinian playmaker is generating momentum as a possible first-rounder. He caught the eye of NBA scouts during a 19-point, 7-assist performance with Barcelona's second team over the weekend. Although he's playing at a low level in the Spanish third division, Bolmaro dominated the game on both ends.

Barcelona head coach Svetislav Pesic liked what he saw from the teenager so much that he rewarded him with his first career Euroleague start against ASVEL and Maledon a few days later -- playing Bolmaro exclusively at point guard, a rarity for the veteran-dependent coach. Although he logged only nine minutes in the win, Bolmaro showed talent, aggression and nonstop energy. At times against Maledon, he looked like the superior prospect, playing full-court defense, fighting over screens, getting downhill out of pick-and-roll and keeping the offense humming.
A well-rounded athlete with a tireless motor and a flair inspired by fellow Argentinian Manu Ginobili, Bolmaro offers real versatility. He can play off of others as a slashing, cutting wing or function as a big point guard. After shooting just 29.9% from 3 in 127 attempts with Barcelona B last season, his stroke looks cleaner. He's converting 34% from distance through 16 games, making for increased effectiveness. On top of that, he has developed into a valuable defender with sharp instincts and quick feet.

He's still streaky from the perimeter and not the most efficient half-court scorer. He lacks elite length relative to his height and can be a bit erratic with his deliveries at times. On top of that, Bolmaro was far from dominant at the U19s, with an even assist-to-turnover ratio and a 48.6 true shooting percentage. He also shot just 8-for-27 in his first two LEB Silver games this season. And despite his start against ASVEL, Bolmaro doesn't have the cleanest pathway to playing time, which could affect his decision to enter the 2020 draft.

But the fact that Bolmaro is getting occasional Euroleague burn for one of the best teams outside of the NBA speaks to his ability to impact winning. He deserves to be entrenched in the first-round conversation. Add in that teammates rave about his work ethic and Bolmaro might have one of the highest floors in the draft among the European crop. He holds clear role-player potential, with a chance to develop into more than that given his skills and creativity at his size.
"Flair inspired by Manu Ginobili"?? I've found my guy!

Which means that the Mavs will get him.

I am starting pay more attention to college to see if anybody will jump off the screen. Watch some Villanova game last night checking out Bey he decent on offense but his premeter defense wasn't good at all.

you’re doing it wrong.
Against U19 competition?
ATO of 1, 48% TS%, 29% from the field?

What is right? I know nothing about this guy. Figure that he'd do well against that level of competition, no?

Personally I haven’t seen Bolmaro play so I won’t comment on him, but what I meant by “you’re doing it wrong” is that stats are essentially meaningless when talking about prospects, since it’s purely about projection. It’s why you see guys, especially Europeans, with meh stats get picked in the first round all the time. Dont have to look further than our very own Nurkic as an example.

I get the low sample size thing for a ton of these dudes, but this guy shot 27 times in two games and hit only 8 shots against kids <19. This ins't the Euroleague.

It's not a good start.

Yeah, I mean if he’s not owning his age group it’s a concern, but again, there’s a reason he’s getting first round hype. I haven’t seen him so I’m not sure what that reason is, but he must have a level of projectability teams/evaluators are intrigued by. Guys don’t get drafted for who they are now, especially teenagers.

That 8-27 was in 2 games in LEB Silver, which is a third-tier pro league in Spain, not in U-19 competition.

Serious Question: If we keep the pick, what position is preferred?

The correct answer is BPA.

I don't have much hope for Moses. I'm pessimistic on Little.
I'd like to see a bit more of Hoard & Gabriel before deciding on them.

Out of the entire bunch, Zach & Gary are the only ones who are 'regular rotational' level players. Simons MAY get there, too.

Long story short, Portland is not talented enough to make the decision based on position. They need to go with the best player.

Unless that perceived "best player" is Cole Anthony. Then move on to the next best.

OK, last posting on Leandro Bolmaro for a while, before I start to piss people off. Couple of videos - he's been called up to play on Barca's first team a little bit, and its roster is not too shabby. Here's a familiar face:

And here's an amazing pass to actual NBA player Nicola Mirotic:

Euro clubs very rarely play young guys, particularly top Euroleague teams like Barca (that's why it was so obvious that Doncic was a prodigy) and they've got him playing POINT.

Physically he reminds me a lot of Brent Barry.

I knew youd fall for this guy lol.

Watched some tape on him a while ago. Looks very mediocre. Another Sergey Karasev.
