to that point: his usage rate is lower than the last 2 seasons. But his assist rate is lower this season while his turnover rate is at a career high

* this season his average seconds/touch is 4.54 and his average dribbles/touch is 4.09
* last season his average seconds/touch is 5.14 and his average dribbles/touch is 4.82

so yeah, he appears to be ball-hogging less this season. But his PER, TS%, winshares/48, and BPM are all at the lowest marks since he became a starter 4 years ago. So maybe his good performances depend on him dominating the ball and operating in hooplock mode
whether he is ball hogging less this year or not he really has played poorly

obviously, I'm not a Simons fan, at all. But I doubt he's as bad as he has been playing. It's well below his norms. I think he wants out of Portland and the team is kind of a dysfunctional mess with bad coaching, especially for the vets

defensive rating (team 118.1):

Robert Williams 111
Donovan Clingan 112
Deandre Ayton 115
Dalano Banton 116
Jabari Walker 117
Deni Avdija 117
Toumani Camara 118
Scoot Henderson 119
Kris Murray 120
Jerami Grant 120
Rayan Rupert 121
Shaedon Sharpe 121
Anfernee Simons 122

DBPM:

Robert Williams 2.4
Donovan Clingan 0.6
Dalano Banton -0.4
Deni Avdija -0.4
Toumani Camara -0.5
Kris Murray -1.0
Jerami Grant -1.3
Deandre Ayton -1.3
Jabari Walker -1.4
Scoot Henderson -1.5
Rayan Rupert -1.7
Shaedon Sharpe -2.4
Anfernee Simons -2.4

Simons has a net rating of -13.0 and a BPM of -2.0. He has generally been a net negative; his good offense has never really been enough to offset his bad defense
So Ayton is a better defender than Camara according to this?

Could Atlanta be a dark horse team to land Butler? One last ditch attempt for a winning team while they have Trae Young.

Young, Daniels, Butler, Jalen is pretty interesting…but who do they trade? Brogdan, Hunter, + one of their 2025 FRP? More?

Capela, Nance jr, Risacher and a pick for Butler? Something like that.

Atlanta with a 35-year-old Jimmy still has no chance. So trading away Risacher and a pick would be a mistake IMO. Jimmy needs to go to a veteran team where he is the missing piece.
Somewhere he can just show up in the playoffs. And somewhere where he respects the other players on the team. GS or Phoenix

7th in rebounding... so I guess the guy sucks at something.

Really though, this dude is going to be a dominant force in the NBA for the next two decades. His combination of length, athleticism and skills pretty much makes him everything, everywhere all at once. Dude is unreal.

Really should just have a "Webanyama is unreal" thread that we can just continuously update for the next 15 years.

We are watching maybe one of the great regular season campaigns ever. They are on pace to win 72 games. The record is 73. Thoughts? Did I just jinx them?

Jokic if he stays healthy will be mvp in 4 of 5 years. 5 of 5 if not for the one awarded to embiid
Regular season record record could hurt him. If record doesn’t matter as much, Wembanyama is in the race too.

Butler ask blatantly asked out. Says he "will make any team a contender." Cant wait to see what team wastes assets on a 35 y/o albatross necklace.
He’s top 10 in PER this year.

Donovan Mitchell must be the most underrated star in the league. He's scored 70+ points in a game, he took the Jazz to the best record in the league and now he's on the best team and still nobody's talking about him. Better than Dwyane Wade?

Man, I remember way back when we had a team to get excited about, the Blazers with Roy went on like a 12 or 14 game winning streak and the RG was electric to be at.

I feel like that won’t happen again for many many years.
It was a 13 game win streak but we missed the playoffs. In 2018, we had another 13 game win streak but got swept in first round. Also- we were like 32-50 the year before that streak so have hope. We’ll be back in business soon.

Prob with that is will either of those teams even make the play in, let alone the playoffs.

He’s great. I think the biggest reason they’re winning though is having both Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley in the frontcourt. We’d be awesome too if we had those two.

It’s time to create an AROUND THE NBA THREAD for this right?

Moving this to around the NBA. Discussion regarding this can all be done there, no need for an ancillary thread.
