I remember when the only stats I really had access to were the game box scores and the top-ten lists for scoring, rebounding, assists, blocks and steals in the newspaper's sports section. And I think those top-ten lists were only in the Sunday sports sections. Fandom is a very different experience now than when I was a kid/teen.
Exactly my point. Very different. It's changed almost as much as the sport itself has.

Just think if the Blazers were in the Finals starting this week. The weather will be awesome. Rose Festival is going strong. The rivers will be bumpin. The city would be Jumpin! Every look that the country would have of Portland would be fantastic.

Unless you have had to go to the corner store to buy "Hoops", "Basketball Digest", " Black Sports", or even "Sports Illustrated" because that was the only way you could get any stats at all and you were at the mercy of what they were writing you simply cannot understand the way the NBA was marketed. If you have ever had to stand in the magazine section and read an entire article because you didn't want to buy the magazine then you know what i'm talking about. Maybe you were one of the few that had them all coming in the mail? They even used to seal them so we had to find the one someone already cut. Hopefully they didn't rip the pages out of the magazine. (No this was not Porn. Those were behind the counter.)
Nobody knew what their favorite players stats were other than what you could pick up and remember. We were too busy remembering phone numbers. If you knew a players average scoring or rebounds it was because they were one of the leaders.

Then here is the even bigger part. Maybe you had a couple friends that were into the game as much as you? But at most you had 2 or 3? You watched games together and pretty much all watched the exact same thing so you all used the same metric. This was the difference between the game today and what we watch now. Even the CBA had to be changed to include the revenue it gets from TV. You did not have the internet or league pass. You had Chris Berman, Greg Gumble and Bob Ley. You had Stuart Scott (RIP) telling you what you needed to know. The only thing you had time for was a quick rundown of the scores and the highlights. Remember, back then we read the newspaper and changed our own oil in the car. You could actually get to the battery so you could change that also.

This is not a knock on millennial's. They have plenty of issues to deal with that we never had to worry about. But the fact is there are very few millennial's that can truly understand what dynamics were involved with the NBA 30-40 years ago.
Ha! Growing up in the 70s, I'd spend hours reading/memorizing baseball stats because they once came once a week in the Sunday Oregonian.

Nice! But you only got the numbers from your team and the league leaders. You didn't have access to every player in the league at the touch of a button. You had a column 2 inches wide and maybe the length of the page at best. Sometimes a page and a half in length. To be fair they did print it really really small.

Morey is going to be aggressive this Summer, unlike, well, you know who i mean... :D

If Morey is our GM and we just lost the WCF, what would he do to improve our team?

Rockets have also fired all of their assistant coaches under D'Antoni. They pursued Tyron Lue to be an assistant. Woj just reported that D'Antoni's extension talks have stalled.

Writing is on the wall.

Seems like Houston is gonna have a fire sale this offseason. If they get to the point they want to trade Harden should we go for him? I am on the fence and think the Dame/Harden combo only works in the all star game.

Seriously? You are on the fence about having a guy like Harden on the Blazers with Dame?

I can't see them trading Harden. They're not going to get a player as good as him within Morey's tenure--if there is a fire sale, it'll be an attempt to retool a new team around him, IMO.

Also, I don't think Portland has the assets to trade for Harden without including Lillard. And why would Lillard be attractive to them if they're dealing Harden? Presumably, they only deal Harden to get younger and cheaper.

CP3 for 38, 41, and 44 mil a year! good fucking luck with that, maybe the worst contract in the league, albatross around your neck Houston. Cant stop laughing. He will be injured for half of his remaining games anyways. So basically he's making double that, or ~ about a million a game! what a fucking waste of money.

John Wall's is pretty bad too.

Yeah...I don't get it Morey gets all this Gresat GM endorsement crap constantly, but he's mortgaged the future and taken steps backwards, since last year imo.
They were not the defensive team this year, as last. Giving an injury prone CP that kind of money is insane.

Two teams that were supposed to contend but took steps backwards, Utah & Houston. Make Neil look like a genius!

Man, if the Knicks don't have KD gifted to them in free agency, they would certainly be dumb enough to take CP3 in a deal.

The rockets are a bunch of idiots. From the owner, down to the hot dog salesman.

Actually, I think being a fan of the Rockets is pretty exciting. They are constantly trying to get better, from the team, to the coaches, to the GM, etc. They are almost always making moves and there is constant player movement, which is fun. They are the only WC team to have actively tried to dethrone the Golden State empire, and almost did it.

And guess what, they have had more regular and post season success than the Blazers in the last decade.

Decade, 2 decades, 3 decades...

Thanks for the reminder

I think the Lakers get AD and CP and then have to fill out their roster with scrubs. If they renounce pretty much everyone, trade LB to the Rockets and Kuzma/Ingram to NO it might work out. The Pelicans would probably want a pick or to unload a bad contract on Houston (maybe soloman hill, they don't have any bad long-term deals).
