I don't know why the Blazers would sign Brooks. I mean, they already have Bird Rights to a better defender and 'better shooter' in Thybulle, and he doesn't come with the baggage that Brooks does. I don't think a team can fit more than one player like these guys who are nearly invisible on offense can't spread a defense with shooting or passing

I think its highly unlikely Brooks signs with Portland for all the reasons you listed. If they could get him for the minimum, it would be a wise move in my opinion from an asset value standpoint.

I don't think he'd have anything but negative asset value. I actually think he might not get an NBA contract this summer. The "under any circumstances" language by Memphis was totally harsh by the organization that knows him best, and effectively torpedoes Brooks value for almost every team, and it was already extremely low

I disagree, but I get the thought given that in this very moment he's the hot topic, for not so good reasons.

Say the Blazers had Brooks on a minimum deal and he was anything but the total distraction he was in the playoffs, he could easily be moved to another team next February for something potentially as good as a late first round pick to a contender wanting to add depth. If he's a total headcase, then you cut him, and you're only losing a percentage of his minimum contract. On the off chance that getting away from the immaturity in Memphis showed Brooks is willing to be a team player who focuses on his strengths and doesn't hijack an offense, his value at a low dollar contract would be very very high.

I'm not suggesting the Blazers offer him a GP2 type contract (which ended up being worth five 2nd round picks), but I believe there is a contract value that would make sense. I'd like to see us get away from the buying high and selling low strategy and potentially see if we can't get someone on the cheap that needs a change of scenery or leadership.

It's kind of funny and sad all at the same time -- Brooks has talked himself out of a job and if he cannot rein it in he will talk himself out of the NBA and prolly be relegated to some overseas league.

If you believe in culture you stay away from Brooks. Every team needs a tuff guy on there but being tuff is on thing but being border line dirty player is another.

Josh Hart just pretty much won the game for the Knicks. Wish we had a guy like that, not Dillon Brooks

Yeah maybe it's because he's a Duck? Also we are supposedly going to overhaul the roster. I sincerely doubt he's going to be part of that but if it's for the vet min I would think he'd be cool to have for depth, even though I can't stand him.

I think Dillon will get past this, I am just not sure if it will happen with his next team. Often for players who think they are starters but are not, it takes a couple of teams before they come to the realization of what their role really is. I think by his 3rd team he will be ready, but it will take the right coach and teammates for him to succeed.

He’s a great defender and frankly we need some of his attitude on this team

Dillon Brooks is a decent defender but he is a real long ways from elite

he plays with intensity and sometimes that can look like he's defending great. But the results are not great. Brooks has consistently posted defensive ratings 2-3 points worse than his team. And he has a negative DBPM. An elite defender would not have those results

by contrast, Matisse Thybulle...a truly elite defender (twice named to the all-NBA-Defense 2nd team) has consistently posted defensive ratings 3-4 points better than his team. This season he was 3 points better for Philly, then came to Portland and was 3 points better here. And while Brooks has a career -1.0 DBPM, Thybulle has a career mark of +3.3

which points out that there is no reason, at all, for Portland to consider Brooks when they already own the Bird Rights to Thybulle. And unlike Brooks, Thybulle knows enough to stay in his lane. He's actually a better shooter than Brooks with a TS% of .551 vs Brooks at .512. But Thybulle only sports a career 10.1% usage rate. Brooks is at 23.2%. For chrissakes, Brooks actually has a higher career usage rate than Anfernee Simons

some other factors as well: Brooks is a crappy rebounder for a 6'7 wing. His career rebound rate is 5.9%. 6'2 Damian Lillard who lives on the perimeter has a career rate of 6.2%. And he's a poor passer and facilitator. He has a career assist rate of 11.1%. Trendan Watford has a rate of 15.4%

so let's review Dillon Brooks:

* an inefficient high usage chucker who apparently has no control or shame about his chucking. A career TS% of .512 when the NBA average is .550

* a career PER of 10.9 when the NBA average is 15.0
* a career winshare/48 0f 0.033 when the NBA average is 0.100
* a career BPM of -3.8 when the NBA average is 0.0
* a career ValueOverReplacemt of -4.6 when the NBA replacement level player has a -2.0
* a poor rebounder and a weak passer
* comes with a ton of personal baggage

if Portland re-signs Thybulle, there's no room on the roster, IMO, for two offensive non-factors

if this is to be believed, he’s a pretty near an elite defender

although I don’t personally think he is elite lol

I'll use the eye test....He'd be a fantastic acquisition for us if you wanted to toughen up your team on the defensive end, plain and simple.

Agreed, would love to have him.

Not just defensively either. I think he could change the mentality all around. Make some of our other guys a little more ballsy on the offensive end by going against him in practice.

Wow! How much have you done for me lately. Got to believe there's some sort of riff with players. He led them to a Championship.

And Giannis was hurt. I think they wanted to fire him the year that he won, but he won and they couldn't fire him.
