Well yeah, he was at his best in their run to the Finals and hasn't been happy with his role there since. The stats reflect why he wanted out.

So, you're ignoring the other half of the comparison, namely how bad Sabonis was in last year's playoffs?

well, that was your gauge, not mine, so yeah, I didn't give it the same weight you did, nor assign the same value

both players were shitty in last year's playoffs...that's a fact. It's also true that when Ayton was doing so well in the playoffs, the Suns' perimeter rotation was Booker, CP3, Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, Cam Payne, and Torrey Craig. Ayton wasn't facing much defensive focus because the Suns' perimeter rotation was so deadly

anyway, I repeat that Sabonis is a better player than Ayton at this point. He's a 3 time all-star and was named to the All-NBA 3rd team last year when he averaged better than 19-12-7 with a PER of 23.5 and a .668 TS%

something else about Sabonis is I haven't seen any rumor that he ever tanked his own effort or professionalism because he wasn't happy with the team. Can't say that about Ayton

can Ayton become as good as Sabonis, or even better? Sure. Will he? Doubtful

I see Ayton’s ceiling as LaMarcus Aldridge; we will always question his motor, no matter how well he does. He will be a disappointment for a #1 pick but will have a good and long career. It’s just a matter of whether we accept him at his self-defined best or not.

You’re crazy. You just used two of the leagues most BORING players…… You put JA or SGA in Madison Square Garden and they go global. Vinsanity was what it was BECAUSE it was in NYC….he does that playing for Utah, they wouldn’t be making a documentary out of it.
Now can somebody make money on sponsors in a small market, hell yeah they can, used to not, but now that isn’t as big of an issue.

His ability to run the floor will probably be used more in Portland and for Trail Blazer fans that will mitigate the other Aldridge traits.

How many alley oops did Alridge catch during his time in Portland?

Perhaps we have a different definition of the word “clearly.” That said, thanks for the response.
Perhaps it was only clear to me because (I'm pretty sure) he's mentioned that multiple times in the past. :dunno:

I’m so very sorry, I didn’t think I said “Ayton’s game is exactly like LaMarcus’s in every detail” but apparently I did.

I think Scoot/Ayton will be better than Fox/Sabonis. Probably not as soon as this year, but it wouldn't surprise me. Sac's duo is more polished offensively, but likely much worse defensively. If Sharpe picks up where he left off last year, our supporting cast should be as good, or better than, Sac's. So, I don't agree with dismissing Ayton's past playoff performances on the basis of this team not being ready to make a playoff run to take advantage.

Other than Sabonis being a better teammate thus far, I think most GMs would take Ayton over him, regardless of contract. It remains to be seen whether that is an issue here. So far, his attitude has been excellent, so I'm giving him a blank slate and hoping his Phoenix issues were just due to the surly veteran mix he wasn't jiving with.

You didn't. Nobody did.

Then you know that it doesn’t matter how many alley oops LMA caught.

What I’m saying is Ayton’s ceiling is a 1B or 2 option on a winning team, but not The Guy. A 18-8 to 20-10 guy who tops out at 21 PER. That kind of “LMA ceiling”. That’s literally it.

That would be great. His ceiling as a defender is much higher, as is his athleticism. Imagine being mad at that.

Question: Does winning Rookie of Year have any financial incentives in terms of contract?

Im not talking about one time prize for winning iy, but beong qualified for a higher contract extenaion or something

For example San Antonio wants to limit Wemby usage but Wemby wanna play as much as he can

Wemby and Chet coming up in a few minutes on League Pass at Paycom Center.

pretty sure it doesn't. I'm not even sure the NBA allows much in the way of incentives for rookie scale contracts

Quite a few from Camby. As a duo, they led the league one season.

I doubt that quite a bit, but it's not really a provable point

Offense gets All-Star nods. Defense builds championship teams. Look how much more excitement there was around the league for Jrue's availability than there was for Dame's. Sure, one was a slow cooker and the other a pressure cooker, but it was pretty clear which of the two was more valued by contenders, and it wasn't the one with more accolades.

Sabonis is actually pretty similar to Dame -- lots of heart, terrible defense -- so I'm not surprised by your take. Can't be swayed by anything the statistics can't measure...

did that make you feel better...throwing out another one of your weak insipid insults?

where is the evidence Ayton is better at defense? your opinion? I've watched both play and I don't see any advantage for Ayton

So Wemby is a lock for an All-Star spot, right? He's gonna get the Yao treatment?
