East is so weak this year. Even Boston look pretty dire and they are one of top 4 teams there. Aside from Cavaliers and Hawks none of them look any decent, Pacers have been dreadful, Bulls have been very inconsistent, Celtics have been meh. Actually the way they've been playing, I would not be surprised if Bucks or (fanfare) Brooklyn made it into playoffs. Brooklyn in particular have been a surprising package, if they carry this on they will exceed the number of wins I expected for them in full season by Christmas (I had them down for no more than 15 wins, most likely 12-13). This shows the difference between a team that own their pick (Philadelphia) and the ones who don't and have no incentive to tank (Brooklyn). They're basically a collection of players nobody else wanted, plus Brook Lopez, yet they've already got 4 wins and have looked quite solid (last night aside).
I think you've ignored how good Toronto is this season and to me the east is better....Bulls better, Hawks better, Detroit...even Philly is better...and I expect a lot of the youth movement in the eastern conference will show teams improving throughout the year as they develop talent

So Dwight is ballin in ATL and they're playing really well. I feel like we missed out.
I don't.....I feel we don't have the alley oop passer to fit his game..he needs to play with an Andre Miller type pt guard

And what's our best offer? Including CJ is not a possibility in my mind.
OK, I've given this some thought. The problem is that the Kings have no youth in addition to sucking - a bad combination. If I'm the Kings, I want young players signed to long, but cheap contracts, in addition to draft picks, of course. The blazers have all of their own 1st rounders and 1 extra.

So, If I was them, and I wasn't getting CJ, I'd want
Aminu - age 26, good player, can plug in as starter, amazing contract, locked in for 3 years
Harkless - age 23, very good player, can plug in as starter, good contract, locked in for 4 years!
Biebs - age 24, uniquely skilled, can plug in as starter, good contract, locked in for 4 years!
2 1st rounders + 1 2nd rounder

That's about $26 mil
DMC: $17 mil
+
Koufos (who coach is giving less PT to anyway): $8 mil
or
Gay: $13.3 mil.

Kings:
Biebs/WCS
Aminu/Skal
Harkless/Casspi
McLemore/Temple
Collison/Lawson

Interesting young team with good contracts and some potential for growth.

Blazers:
DMC/Plumlee
Davis/Vonleh
Crabbe/ET
CJ
Lillard/Shabazz

If SAC does decide to blow it up and trade Cousins, they will also want to dump Gay. But perhaps they move him in a separate deal for additional draft picks.

You can't build a winning team aroud Gay, but if we add Cousins, I wouldn't mind Gay as a 4th scoring option. We'd go from two scorers to 4 in our starting lineup. Or, we could bring Gay off the becnh to aadd some scoring punch to our second unit.

Can Gay play the four? That's the biggest question. He reminds me a bit of a much more polished Harkless, which would lead me to believe that he couldn't play the four.

No, but Cousins can play either the 4 or the 5, depending on who we'd have left after the trade.

The proposed trade I was responding to included sending Harkless to SAC. So, we'd either need to replace him from within, or get another starting 3 in return. Which is why Gay would make sense. He isn't an all star, but he's way better than either Crabbe or Turner.

Dude I bet you a million dollars we reached out to him and found out pretty quickly he wasn't interested.

If weak ass Chandler Parsons is declining us think about the caliber of player Dwight will say to us

Ah completely forgot Raptors. I like them at all, my favourite team in the East.

I didn't actually see any proposals. Looking over the trade machine, they've got Gay making $13.3 million this year. Cousins making essentially $17 million, and I personally love Darren Collison, who is making $5.2 million.

So that's a grand total of $35.5 million. Only $30 million if you take out Collison.

If we waited until January, we could trade Crabbe (18.5) with Harkless (9) and Leonard (9.2) and pick for a total of $36.7 million.

Dame/Collison
CJ/Turner
Gay/Aminu
Plumlee/Vonleh
Cousins/Davis/Ezeli

That second unit has zero shooting, and I'm not sure if that's even enough to get it done.

Who are you going to pay that million dollars to? Not that anyone believes someone would pay up who throws out a idiotic number like that.

I had to leave the house after the first quarter and now just finished the game on DVR. What a splendid finish! CJ brought his A game. Hopefully, he can continue his hot shooting next game. And I hope Dame's injury isn't anything major.

Anyway, take this for what it's worth, but while I was watching the game, an acquaintance of mine sat down and watched the 2nd half with me. He claimed to know someone who knows someone with insider knowledge (yeah, I know) and said that back in the summer, Olshey had reviewed the medical report on Parsons' knee and didn't like what he saw (especially at that price tag). That's why we didn't sign him. Supposedly, Parsons wanted to sign here, but Olshey told Parsons' agent to have him sign with Memphis instead. So the reports that Parsons chose Memphis over us is stretching the truth; we were the ones that rejected him.

That would makes sense because:
  1. Our team should/would have been more attractive than Memphis. The Blazers are a young and exciting team on the rise, who play a fun, fast-paced style of basketball, while the Grizzlies are an old team, possibly on the decline.
  2. Parsons' right knee was clearly not in good shape, since he is finally playing on court for the first time since surgery in March.
  3. Parsons came back a earlier than expected, just in time to play us. What a coincidence. And he looked like utter crap tonight, obviously not ready for prime time yet.
Just thought I throw that out there. As I said before, take it with a grain of salt, especially since it's a second-hand account of a second-hand account.

I guarantee there's no scenario for the Blazers to land Cousins without CJ being involved. There's too many other teams with much better trade pieces. The Celtics are clearly the team looking to swing a deal since they think their time is now and they have a ton of excellent players and picks.

Aminu and Crabbe are liabilities (for play and salary respectively), not assets right now.

Aminu has had back to back great performances in the playoffs the last two years. Crabbe is a great shooter that would fit on every team in the NBA.

So, is anyone actually going to tackle the task of showing what these "much better" trade packages are? I keep hearing it said, but have seen very little in the way of detailing what these amazing trade offers would look like.
Seriously, I like to hear some, too.

LeBron didn't play and the Cavs lost. Matthews made 6 3-pointers but the Mavs lost.

Rockets played 9 players tonight and they all scored between 9 and 14 points. I've never seen a box score like that.

Memphis had a 16 point lead on the clippers, supposedly the "best team in basketball".
Clippers come all the way back starting late in the 3rd, taking a 105-107 lead with like 26s to go.
Clippers then choke the rest of the way with a turnover, a chuck by Griffin.
Conley/Gasol/Z-Bo out played CP3/Griffin/DJ again.
I give Griffin credit though, he still manages to get punked by Z-Bo.

Jonas Valanciunas was 6-6 from the field, 8 rebounds in 18 minutes last night.
He didn't play in the second half.
Retarded af.
Maybe the Geko's will trade him to Portland.

What a lovely player he is, one of my favourite centers in the league. Raptors don't need anything we have though, I think.

I like Raptors BTW. Really cool team with great fans. I've been looking at their board online for a while too and they seem to respect Portland a lot. Loved my time in Toronto a few years ago too.

They did not score a point for the last 6 minutes, aside from the final shot of the game 3 seconds from time. Quite remarkable.
