So, back to my original post about the Blazers poor defensive start having to do with incorporating two new starters and having had little practice time to do it: the Blazers are getting that practice time due to the Covid-generated hiatus from playing games. We can argue about whether I'm just making excuses until the cows come home or we can just watch the next few games and see if the practice made for improvement.

You don't annoy me. It's just that you and about 3 others stand in the way of mankind's evolutionary progression, blocking the sacrifices of the billions of dead on whose shoulders we stand, and making human history stand still.

c'mon man...this is all opinion...mine, yours, everybody else's

not only that, you seem to be assuming that the only thing influencing my opinion is wins and losses. As if I haven't watched 95% of the games over the period I'm talking about. That, after I explained in detail the things I was looking at that were not just wins and losses. And we have an 8 season sample size for Stotts and Olshey

as far as Nurkic injuries: relying on an injury prone player, and Nurkic is definitely that, then rationalizing losses after that player gets injured again, does cross the line to an excuse. It's a perpetual get-out-of-jail card for Coaches and GM's. Besides that, Nurkic has been healthy in 2 of the last 3 playoffs and Portland's record in those two playoffs was 1-8. Oh shit, there I go again, looking at wins and losses

Oh, well, if you’re going back to the Pelicans series, I would have probably fired Stotts after that sweep. His inability to come up with any answer for the double teams on Dame was, and continues to be, in my opinion the best reason for arguing for a change in coaching. The Lakers series last season? I’ll throw a c’mon man back at you. The Lakers were flat out better and that was before Dame got hurt.

Your second paragraph is the part I have problems with. Why is it that so often around here that when someone points to reality-based issues that impact the team’s performance, they get accused of making “excuses”? And why is it that after I wrote a lengthy post the other day on the vast differences from season to season of the Lillard/Stotts era, the same old mantra that boils down to “same shit every year” gets trotted out? It’s not the same. The Blazers have had weak defensive years and solid defensive years during that timeframe. It’s primarily been a function of the supporting roster that’s made the difference, not Stotts and not Dame.

The 'excuses' weren't directed at any one post in particular. But there are still plenty of them being rolled out, i.e., for Stotts being here for nearing a decade and yet so many things looking oddly familiar year after year...and not in a good way.

They kicked our ass before injuries hit and certainly don't have anyone the superstar level of Dame. So yes, I'd love it if we could play the way they did....with higher level of talent we rolled out for the start of that game.

No they don’t. They are what they are. Not good. And why would you tear down the roster of the 4th best team in the West?

They really need an influx of new fans too.....you might be onto something...let me know what it's like in Sactown! They swap players and coaches every other month or so ...you're gonna love it

They kicked our ass in one game, on the second night of a back-to-back. It happens. That hardly means they are in better shape than we are as a franchise. We beat the Lakers this season too but I'm not arguing that has us in better position than them.

Steph won 3 championships in his prime, Not matters what happens from now on his prime will not have been wasted.
Dame on the other hand is a MVP caliber player who has never been put in a position to win it all by management. THIS is what wasting a prime means.

Kerr appears to have enough of a better resume he's granted a little leeway on failure. Kerr has had repetitive success of the highest order. Stotts has had repetitive mediocrity

and yes, I know: each had different levels of talent to work with. But Kerr's ability to win championships with high level talent is proven. What Stotts could do with that level of talent is all theory.

I put more of Portland's problems on Olshey than Stotts. But I'm convinced the Blazers need major changes and both need to be shown the door
 
I think Tince was just trying to show how fans tend to over-react. However the examples he picked were ridiculous over-reactions and didn't remind me of anyone on here. I think almost all criticisms of Stotts on here are reasonable. Not always entirely fair, but in the reasonable range.

I think the Kerr is wasting Stephs legacy takes are horrible ones. I like him as a coach.

Last 30 years, 10 of 30 teams have won championships. One small market team.

1) I wish we had 3 rings recently.

2) Unless Blazers fans are different from all other fans, we could have 3 rings in the last 5 years and if we were hovering around .500, there would still be a group of people making the same takes Warriors fans are. Haven't found a fan base yet that doesn't complain about rotations, adjustments, and player utilization after some losses. Those fans think their complaints are legit, but don't take those same complaints other fans make as credible.
