Are they going to see her getting pushed around or someone who's the recipient of hype and not good enough to warrant record-setting attendance numbers? Or both?
I don't know why someone would be celebrating a player if they feel that she's just not that good. She talks like she's good, and she was really good in college, but she's not a mascot and no one should be celebrating her existence if they're playing with and against her. That doesn't mean they should be taking cheap shots, of course, except insofar as it helps them win the game.
A huge advantage of the Clark hype is that there are more eyeballs on the WNBA than ever before... and more media attention and hype. Maybe it was just a matter of more folks seeing the league. Or maybe it's just not that interesting as far as high level basketball goes. If the cult of Clark personality fades, either because she's not good enough to perpetuate it or there's something else that distracts, and the league goes back to where it's been the first 25 years, then it'll be interesting to see what WNBA die hards say then.
