Being stuck with him is one thing, but I don't want him starting. That will seriously annoy me. The starting lineup should be Scoot/Shae/Tou/Deni/Clingan.

I don't mind that starting lineup. However, for the last month (before buying out Ayton) I felt that with Ayton, Grant needed to come off the bench. But if we started Clingan, then Grant needed to start over Tou. That IMO is what is best for the team. Camara can be a spark plug off the bench while still getting 30+ minutes. Hopefully, we will pay Camara this summer, so he will be happy regardless.

Now, if Scoot and Shae come in this fall and just light it up offensively, then that changes things. But we need more offense in that starting lineup. Then Tou can come in and stop whoever is hot on the other team. Plus, I feel that refs often call more fouls to start a game in order to set the tone. I can't prove that, but it often seems that way. If Tou is coming off the bench, it will keep him out of foul trouble.

Jrue
Deni
Tou
Grant
DC

is my prediction. Until Scoot and Shae improve it has to be this way. Grant is more efficient I would guess. POR has to get the CHI FRP to convey to free up all of MIL's picks. They have to make the post season. no more lotto. Other option is to give someone away to CHI (or take junk back) to get them to send it back to POR. That seems unlikely. So POR has to play to win.

yuck Sharpe needs to start and IMO so does Scoot

I don't mind keeping Grant one more year. He feels like a Kiki VanDeWeghe type that's useful right now, but will be traded for the piece we need later.

To be a broken record, no way to predict what their starting lineup is because nobody knows what their goals are this season. It is impossible to tell by what they have done if they are trying to win or lose, go young or old, or what. If Jrue and Grant start, they are trying to win now at the expense of their two young 'building blocks', who will once again take a back seat to vets rather than developing.

I always remember how excited everyone was with how much Clyde developed over the summer after his rookie year. It was night and day. He was 22. He was hardly an exception.

I would like to see them all start, but I don't understand why players these days can't develop unless they do. Shae, Scoot, and Clingan will get plenty of minutes without awarding them a starting position. However I would be pissed if Shae didn't start.

Anything is possible, but it would not make sense. We only have two PGs, so to start them together would be stupid.
(a) look at the Pacers, with Halliburton and Nemhard
(b) Jrue actually had fewer apg for the Celtics than Tatum. I've heard it said that he's "not really a point guard"

That makes sense. Their entire offense goes through Tatum.

For years this team has needed a Ginobli sixth man of the year candidate....Sharpe could become that...Ant was paid too much according to fans to come off the bench as was CJ....well we could develop him into a great 6 man...not everyone is going to be a career starter. Maybe it's not Shae...maybe it's Deni...he's paid like a 6 man.

Does not make any difference. He is a PG on this team. Plus, look at his assist numbers starting from his last year in Philly, and then in New Orleans and Milwaukee. A 10-year stretch where he averaged 7-8 assists per game. Who else on this team has done that?

Sharpe has upped his scoring each year and now that Simons is gone, if we start him, he has potential to score 23-25 ppg next season.

Eh, doesn't really matter that much.

One of them sit down, Sharpe comes in. Other one sits down, first guy comes back in. Either way there's going to be a point guard on the floor.

Let's say Jrue sits first, which would make sense since he's older. Sharpe comes in and he plays with Scoot for the rest of the first quarter. Jrue replaces Scoot at the start of the second quarter and plays with Sharpe for half the quarter.

Yeah, good point. I used that same logic last year with Ant vs Scoot. But IMO we should minimize having two PGs on the floor with Deni, who is also best when running the offense. But you are right, it makes no difference in the long run. But Shae needs to start.

I think Jrue should come off the bench. It also makes sense since he’s no spring chicken. Prolong his career by cutting down on the wear and tear. Especially if you’re hoping to have everyone healthy at the end of the season.

Yeah, I think having our core bench unit being the vets: Jrue, Tisse, Jerami and Rob makes a lot of sense to me. I doubt it will make a lot of sense to Jrue, Jerami or even Chauncey but I've got my fingers crossed that I'm wrong about at least Chauncey having issue with the idea.

I really just hope that Scoot, Shae, Tou and Deni come into training camp having made improvements that make them the clear starters but I don't think that should have to be the case because their development as long as it's all trending upward should have more value to this franchise than Jrue or Jerami's feelings. Both of those guys should still get starters minutes but we've built a compelling young starting 5 and I want to see what they can do together immediately.

I would like to see that too. But if one of them is not ready, it makes them all look bad. However the only one I worry about is Scoot. Mostly because it is the hardest position to master.

Scoot 32 at PG
Jrue 16 at PG, 16 at SG
Shaedon 32 at SG

Start or bench — all 3 — will get worked out on who plays best with whom. Scoot is ONLY a PG and gets starter minutes. Shaedon is best at the 2 and is that, and he gets starter minutes. Jrue D’s up and at 35 will continue to D up, be an adult, run the team, get as many shots at what FITS for the team. And he gets starter minutes.

Because of what they are best at, half of Scoot AND Shaedon’s court time will have a better defensive guard beside them. The quantum leap in guard defense makes the life of Toumani (and the other bigs) more effective as they cover for only 1 guard on D, and even that has Billups’ foot aiming for young guard rear ends.

There is no guard option, IMHO, at guard who takes minutes away from the 3 above.
Thybulle will get some 2 and 3 minutes when guys sit for whatever reason and/or a trade. Rupert at SG/SG has a longgg runway for getting ready.

This is a short-term, 2-3 year deal with Jrue. … Or a trade getting assets from a playoff team who really needs a dude to win championships with defense and playoff basketball.

Just because game experience matters. And NBA teams don’t practice a ton during the season. Very little. Take away shootarounds and they don’t have much time. And I know they’ll get minutes but starter mentality and minutes have value imo. And if they start 60+ games and play 35 mins a night and they aren’t keepers let’s find out now.

I wonder what the number from Grants camp is to take a buyout and go where he wants? How much would he give up?If it only cost us 20 mil per for next 3 would you do it?
