<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Larry Brown has been relieved of his responsibilities as head coach of the New York Knicks it was announced today. Isiah Thomas, who serves as the team's president and general manager, will also assume the role of head coach, effective immediately.

"Larry has had a long and storied career. We hired him last summer with the expectation that he would be with the Knicks for a long time. Sometimes decisions work and sometimes they don't. After careful consideration, despite the best intentions from everyone involved, this current structure did not work for us last season and I did not think it was going to improve next season," MSG Chairman James L. Dolan said. "I have great personal admiration for Larry, but have concluded that it is best for our franchise if we make this change. We understand that fans were not happy with the performance of the team last season and neither were we. We are committed to making major improvements next season towards our goal of producing a winning basketball team."

"No one in our organization is happy with last season and we all accept responsibility for our performance," Thomas said. "This has been a difficult time for the entire organization and our fans. Today begins the 2006-07 season for the Knicks, and I strongly believe we are on the right track to take major steps in our rebuilding process to achieve our goal of being one of the premier teams in the NBA. Larry Brown is a great coach, but for various reasons, bringing him to the Knicks did not turn out the way we had hoped and we wish him the best in the future."

Thomas, who joined the Knicks as president and general manager on Dec. 22, 2003, previously served as a head coach with the Indiana Pacers for three seasons from 2000-01 through 2002-03. Coaching a youthful Pacers team, he compiled a record of 131-115 record, making the playoffs in each of his three seasons.</div>

I think it's an awful move. Larry Brown was not the problem, but it will be very entertaining to see Thomas attempt to turn the team around.

haha. They think they did bad last year, this year if they don't get something done will be way worse.

I don't believe that Larry Brown was the problem...
I'm doubting the move to relieve him at the moment =/

Brown wasnt the problem, this team is filled with ballhogs who all want to be the star instead of playing as a team

Brown was never the right coach for this type of team, I think they will be better off without him.

Well it's true Brown didn't put 100% in the team last yr, but I think it's mostly Isiah's fault. Isiah should have been fired as soon as he traded for Steve Francis. Everybody knew it was a terrible trade, but for some odd reason he still pulled the trigger. Given a better mix of players, Brown could have worked it out. But aslong as Isiah's running the show, the Knicks will always be terrible.

I think the Knicks have a good mixture of talent, for some reason I don't know, Brown wasn't able to make it all work.

Obviously firing Larry Brown was a stupid move by the Knicks. On the other hand seeing Isiah Thomas embarass himself trying to get this heartless team full of losers and bums to make the playoffs will be fun to watch. Isiah Thomas will finally get to coach the players he brought in like I was hoping before he hired Brown. We'll finally see what Isiah's vision was. I have a feeling that after another disaster of a season Isiah Thomas will be fired.

Anyway I think Isiah Thomas should be fired.

Hey MrJ we thought the Jim Dolan protest was rock bottom, but once again the Knicks find another way to get worse. Isiah Thomas coaching this team should be really interesting.

Knicks will suck anyway..may be in 10 years we will improve after marbury will be gone.

Wow, this team will never get any consistency if they just keep making random moves.

Is Isiah still the GM???

Cuz if he isn't then it isn't that bad, Keep his as coach where he has several advisors in assistant coaches and get him the hell out of the GM office, but if he is still GM, the Dolan made a stupid stupid move.

I was epecting this, but when Marbury was saying what seemed like nothing but good things about LB I thought he was staying.

Didnt Dolan say he wasn't giving up on the team and that he wanted everyone to return next year? Hmmm....

hey, mchale managed to be like 500 with the wolves when he coached. and 500 would be amazing for the knicks next year so maybe......

It's ironic, it can be compared to what Stephon did to TT. He likes to make amends with the people he hates before they leave NY. What an asshole.

I thought teams were supposed to improve from year to year...the Knicks just have a habit of getting horribly worse every year. What will they do next offseason?

The Wizards have interest in Brown, supposedly.

^^i'm not so sure i would want that. heruins every franchise he goes to. he will probably try to turn arenas into ai, and get rid of any talent around him.

Yeah, I'm not to fond of him going there, unless he gives Arenas what he wants, keeps Andray Blatche and Caron Butler, and wants to trade Antawn Jamison.

Can't wait for Brooklyn Nets:)

Very good for the Knicks, we benefit either way.

If Isiah doesn't get fired, that means the team improved significantly.

Gunna be fun to watch Isiah coach this team into last place again. Then there will be no more excuses to make....

cant believe they paid larry 50 million for 5 years and they're cutting him loose for 1 year.

The only reason I can support this move, is that it puts Isiah Thomas in a very vulnerable situation. As a coach/GM/president, he's exhausted any other people to blame for this situation. If the Knicks screw up, and we all know they will, Isiah's almost guaranteed to be fired. I still think Larry Brown is the right coach for any situation, but the chance to completely rid yourself of Isiah is too good to miss.

wow...how much more out of control can isaiah's ego get? surely he doesnt think that he's the best and only person able to coach this "team"?

is he actually going to keep francis AND marbury???
