Official: Wesley Matthews has joined the #Blazers. Team is finalizing contract details, but deal is 100-percent done — #Jazz did not match.

Well, a day later than we thought, but welcome Wesley.

I hope he's worth it. I don't recall anybody here drooling over Wesley Matthews during the season.

I'm still a bit surprised at the size of the contract for a rookie with a 12.3 PER, but I'll trust for now that the team knows what they are doing by bringing him in to Portland.

Good luck, Wesley, and the spotlight starts right now.

Rally tomorrow at Pioneer Courthouse Square?

Yeah, he thought he was going to make that while stating for the Jazz. Now he's playing the backup role.

I can't imagine that he ever thought the Jazz would match.

It seems quite unlikely to me that the Blazers didn't placate him about playing time to a certain extent, but I don't think he's going to be complaining too loudly about making $9m next year after not even being guaranteed a roster spot a year before.

I think folks will be surprised. I believe we will see Roy, Batum and Mathews on the court at the same time. The reason being, we all know Batum can guard a 1, and Mathews can guard 2's and 3's. Batum and Roy will provide enough ball handling to get it done, and it will be our best perimeter shooting unit we can place on the floor around Greg for spacing.

The other reason being, we have Mr. Sonic as our coach, and it reminds me of the lineup he was part of in Seattle, with Kendal Gill and GP. Everybody was 6'5" or above. Becuase of this, they could all switch on the permiter.

Sure, just look at Batum's minutes. He has been extremely underutilized, and literally in every game I watched, the announcers harped on why Batum played so little.

But Rasta is right as well

Not to worry, by midseason he'll be one of only five healthy players, and getting 48 mpg!

IMO, it is more interesting to look at his post-All-Star numbers to get a better feel for how he can perform.

I definitely hope we see that lineup for defense. But I hope we don't see that lineup just so we can continually run the 1-4, Roy iso, with Batum and WM standing in the corners. Unfortunately, I believe that is the offense we will run with that lineup.

I am glad this is finally done and now that it is and a GM is in place we can see if there really is a big trade in the works. I think Matthews is a good addition and sure he is overpaid but i like what he brings to the Blazers.

He may get a payout of over $9 mil with his bonus, but he only earns $5.765 next year as far as salary on the books. If you think of him as $9 mil... then in following years you need to think of him as the greatly reduced salary value. He only gets $32.56mil or so for 5 years. He just gets some of it ahead of time.

But the point stands.. he is seemingly over paid for what he did his rookie year. Let's hope for the best.

In a Summer where Frye and Darko both got around $30 million, it's tough for me to have an issue with his price tag.

I just hope this means less wide open 3's being shot against our D.

Good. Now we can see what the team has had up its sleeve..... hopefully.

Its funny what espn states.
Matthews' deal with Portland is expected to be worth roughly $33 million; not bad for a player who went undrafted out of Marquette in 2009. His fantasy value, however, takes a hit in Portland simply because the Blazers have plenty of SG/SF types who can score.
Has espn done their research? Webster is gone, Rudy played like crap last year, and Bayless got limited time which affected his scoring. I think Matthews will be more consistent than Webster or Rudy at this point even if hes limited to 25-30 minutes.

How quickly do the fans turn on Matthews if he doesn't start off playing well?
