Official: Matthews is a Blazer

How quickly do the fans turn on Matthews if he doesn't start off playing well?

he is gonna be our what......... 8th option on the offensive end? What do people realistically expect from this guy. I like the fact that he is a defensive minded player, that's what we need.

I can't imagine that he ever thought the Jazz would match.

It seems quite unlikely to me that the Blazers didn't placate him about playing time to a certain extent, but I don't think he's going to be complaining too loudly about making $9m next year after not even being guaranteed a roster spot a year before.

Ed O.

highest paid sophomore in NBA history?

Those that are on your side. Do you ever have an original point? You seem like a dullard to me, Sug.

Prove me wrong! It would be a first for you.

I keep on thinking your avatar is your face. I might need a new monitor.

Nah, that's Bert Kolde, who Larry Miller went out of his way to grovel about on the radio yesterday. Take it up with Paul Allen? Talk to Paul about getting a new monitor. :)

His plane landed around 7:45PM! Wonder if they took him to a Turkish restaurant?

Nate, I never realized you had Cho in your avatar til just now. That's Cho on Halloween, dressed as a sleek ninja turtle.

I think folks will be surprised. I believe we will see Roy, Batum and Mathews on the court at the same time. The reason being, we all know Batum can guard a 1, and Mathews can guard 2's and 3's. Batum and Roy will provide enough ball handling to get it done, and it will be our best perimeter shooting unit we can place on the floor around Greg for spacing.

The other reason being, we have Mr. Sonic as our coach, and it reminds me of the lineup he was part of in Seattle, with Kendal Gill and GP. Everybody was 6'5" or above. Becuase of this, they could all switch on the permiter.

Sounds like a fun lineup to me. Man I'm salivating for next year! :smiley-drool:

You mean in the rookie wage scale era? Maybe?

even before that.. I dont have numbers or anything.. but I doubt even MJ made that much his sophomore year no?

Didn't Kevin Garnett get a huge deal as a draft pick? I mean there's a reason they implemented the rookie wage scale, it was meant to save stupid owners from themselves and handing out huge sums of money to unproven players and the veteran players in the union demanded the change.

hmm good point.. I'll check KG's and report back.

by the way I'm not doing this to argue me being right or anything, I just am curious now.

That's cool. I was beginning to think your wife had shared some of her meds with you. :D

Interesting. Yeah, maybe Wesley is the highest paid sophomore ever ... talk about a weird, random trivia question.

lol for real! I'm not sure why the thought popped in my head to be honest.

Most sophmores are still on there rookie contract since they have more years than 1 year with the team they go to. Undrafted rookies don't usually have an impact.

haha! I wish.. but she said the market value for those things is way to high to just be giving them to me ;)

Is he? I remember before the rookie scale some idiotic 1st pick (it was Glenn Robinson, I remember now) was talking about a 1st contract of $100 million. He ended up getting $68 mil. Needless to say the owners (and probably the vets, too) had enough of that. I don't remember how many years that was for, but it's possible it was more.

it was a 10-year, $68 Mil contract, so the 2nd year salary was definitely less than $9 mil. - never mind!

He made 3.7 Million his second year according to BBR.

Anyways, I don't think anyone can top Matthews's 9+ Million.
