Isaiah Thomas
Age: 25 | 5'10.25" 185 lb. | PG
20.3 PPG | 3.0 RPG | 6.3 APG | 20.5 PER | 111 DRtg

Sam Amick reports that the consensus around the League is that his value/market is $4m-$6m/per.

Even though he put up numbers like an All-Star you're not going to go deep in the playoffs when your PG is this small. Sacramento knows it and has made it clear that they want to upgrade this spot. Hence the reason why his value around the league is, at most, the MLE.

He's the new era Dallas-JJ Barea. He's a guy that will come in and score. A change of pace guy.

this is not the type of player we need to or should focus on, rather pick up a guy like Sessions (or others) for the BAE or less and go after a Jordan Hill with most of the MLE. I'd love to get Hawes but unless we do a sign and trade wuth CLE he is likely going to go for 7-8 mil per yr. Also a guy like Kaman could be had for the BAE or cheaper and the is an Olshey connection there

Thomas does a lot of damage inside, and has a nice mid range jumper. Notice more of his shots come from inside the paint than mid range or 3.

This is Damian's shot chart. He takes mostly 3s, and doesn't finish at the rim nearly as well as Thomas. Thomas also shot the mid range shot a little better.

IMO given what we have to spend and our needs he is not the a guy we should target

I still think the perfect backup guard for the Blazers is Kirk Hinrich.

Our needs are for quality bench players right, specifically we need a backup PG to replace Mo Williams. I think Thomas fits the bill.

I'd like to see a defense oirentated back-up PG.
Perhaps someone in the mold of a Greg Anthony?

we juts disagree, yes we need a backup PG, but not one that will likely cost a minimum of 5 mil per yr when IMO there are a lot cheaper solid choices available, we have other more pressing needs

I am confused by these two statements. Didn't Dallas win a championship with Barea? Maybe he meant as a starter (But then again SA won a championship with Avery Johnson as a starter.

I can see the benefits of going after I Thomas, but a taller PG is my preference mainly because CJ is a short SG and Damian can play SG as well.

JJ was their 6th man.

Kidd was the starter. Kidd played heavy minutes during their run.

A taller SG won't be able to lend any height to CJ.

Sorry I thought the comment came from Amick. But for comparison purposes Lillard is our starter and will play major minutes, so it would be the same.

I would not mind signing someone like Carson as the third PG and getting someone taller like Livingston with MLE money as the BU

or how about a 6'5" combo guard in Rodney Stuckey? get some size

Actually Stuckey is my first choice as long as he can play PG. What is the consensus on that? Can he run a team and facilitate the offense? I love the way he attacks the basket. If he really is a PG then I am all in for that choice. The word combo guard worries me. It usually means they can play the point.....in a pinch.

combo guards or however you want to define them are becoming more the norm as the era of the pure past first PG fades away, is Stuckey "good enough" to play PG (or Dame's backup) as a backup role? I think so, Sessions is also a slasher but probably a better PG than Stuckey, but is 6'3 vs Stuckey's 6'5"

It would be hilarious watching the pants Shitting party if we signed Thomas after a couple of games. Mo Williams is who we need to resign. Use the mle on others (like Frye, or Jordan hill, or Paul pierce) and try to resign Mo with the non bird exception

I like Thomas. He can definitely score the ball. I can't recall how he does at running an offense and getting others involved, though. I want a back-up PG who can do that - run an offense. That's far more important than a defensive PG who can't run an offense. Until we have a back-up PG who can run an offense our bench will never work well.

Im on my phone; can that shot chart be filtered on post-ASG? Dane's drives were awful early in the season but really picked up in quality after the all star game.

The only other option is to filter for the playoffs. His shooting percentage in the paint in the playoffs was 5% higher than in the regular season. It's a cool site, you can also filter by quarter, and for some reason Damian is a much better 1st half shooter than 2nd half, I thought it would be the opposite. The biggest drop off is that he shoots 46.7%(his best quarter) in the 2nd and it drops to 39% in the third (his worst quarter). So the 2nd quarter is when he plays SG with Mo right?

Yep... This.

This says it all. Not much too add.

PJ Tucker is a perfect fit his is a good defender and can shoot the 3.

I'll cosign this if we don't have to give him more than 2 years with an option for a 3rd. It makes the best use of our cap space.

thought midrange jump shooters were bad? worst shot in the NBA... See Aldridge.

My primary MLE target would be:
Darren Collison, 11.4 ppg, 3.7 apg, 2.2 a/t, 1.2 spg, 46.7% fg, 37.6% 3pt, 16.2 PER. He only made $1,985,000 last year.

I also like Livingston and Sessions, but both of those guys don't have strong 3 pt shooting. I think Collison would be a better fit.

Stuckey wouldn't be bad, but he only has a 1.2 a/t ratio and shot 27.3% from 3pt range last year. I'm not sure if that's a good fit in our system.
