Here's some other stats on the history of the Lottery since it was implemented in 1990. The number of times teams have won the lottery (picking 1-3) based on their record:

http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-draft-lottery-history/
(Plus adding in 2010 and 2011)

Based on record starting with worst: (No. times won lottery to pick in top 3)
Worst: 15
2nd: 9
3rd: 9
4th: 8
5th: 11
6th: 6
7th: 2
8th: 2
9th: 1
10th: 1
11th: 1
12th: 0
13th: 1

The fifth-worst team has actually won more than the fourth-worst, and even second and third worst. Interesting to see if anything.. like playing roulette.

Would be crazy to see us get NJ's pick at #4 and through some non-Sternistic luck, wind up with the #1 pick by finishing 12th.

I'm thinking it might go down the other way . . . NJ tanks and end up with a top 3 (and gets to keep the pick), plus Portland limps into the 8th seed playoff spot missing the Lotto altogether. Who would have that making the playoffs could be part of a "worst case scenario"? It would be if we don't end up with any lotto picks. Doesn't matter how much cap space you have when you're Portland. We have to build through the draft.

Nets losing against a team that went to 4OTs last night in NJ.

Starters in the first quarter are 0-11, with 7 TOs.

Poor new jersey. The basketball gods will reward them with no pick for tanking. Good for us though

Utah has been maybe the hottest team in the NBA over the past couple weeks.

Favors is coming along, Millsap and Jefferson are a solid 1, 2 punch and dare I say Gordan Heyward is another solid white NBA player.

It's a sad day that Utah passed us. I remember last year many celebrated when Utah and Denver traded their stars thinking they would suck for years. Now it's the blazers who will suck for years. The jazz and nuggets have done what all of us know the blazers will not, rebuild quickly. Very sad day for this blazer franchise that the they are now worse team in the northwest. Really hard to watch jazz make post season. That was our spot.

If Roy was healthy, you think we would be lotto bound? How about if Greg oden actually was healthy?

We'd be contenduhs!

<<<<But we're not.

They're not on the team anymore, and Raymond Fucking Felton is now running the team.

Clown Town

So after tonight I think we are in the #4 and #11 spots still. ESPN still has us taking Zeller no matter what with our second pick..... No thanks

If we're there at 11 we better take a guy like Terrence Jones. Fuck drafting for "need"

Yes. Let's draft a tweener that can't shoot and has (according to nbadraft.net): "Mental lapses, bad body language, dips in concentration and loss of confidence."

We don't have enough of those guys already on our team, huh?

Best player available..... just not a big white guy. the success rate on a quality white player is 95 to 1!

I agree with this. Do not draft a white center, or PG in the lottery. At least no PG this year in the lottery

I'm all about the upside on Jones. Tyler Zeller? Ugh.

I like the last shooter we drafted...

  • one of the most skilled players in the country
  • smooth and accurate lefty stroke with NBA 3 point range and a solid mid-range game
  • He can shoot off a pass, as well as off the dribble
  • as quite the arsenal when it comes to shot selection
  • nice post game
  • He's very crafty with the ball
  • above average handle for a 6'8 forward
  • excellent rebounder
  • Can run the floor and finish in transition
  • Defensively he is intense

Do it again, NJ!

About to climb to the 6th worst record ahead of CLE.

odd that 6th only gets 1 less PP ball than 5th. kind of a wasted spot for us if they finish there, since it essentially doesn't reduce their odds of their winning the lottery (there's a big dropoff in the odds of winning for 7th).

I don't want them to win TOO much.

unfortunately because of the Deron situation they're the one bottom 10 team that could benefit from NOT tanking, so expect them to at least keep trying to win.

if they catch GS we could easily be picking 9/11 : )

Never fear. Nets suck ass.

20pt lead down to 7. 4mins left.

i'd rather had 9 and 11 in this draft then having their pick around (hypothetically) 4 or 5 next season.

hypothetically if they win the lottery this year deron might re-sign and play up to his potential the whole season, and in the east they'd likely make the playoffs next year. so yeah even if they finish 9th worst this year no reason to feel bad about it. take the pick and run.

If we do get Williams, and are able to re-sign Batum, I wonder if the Blazers would package their picks to try and move up in the draft, or if they'll go for quantity.

We won't know if we can get Williams until after July 1st.... whereas the draft is in late June.
