Devastating news. I hope Greg recovers, but he seems like he's on his way to Bowie-dom at this point.

Will he be extended this summer? I doubt it at this point.

...and Kevin Durant starts winning multiple championships in 5....4....3....2....

(sorry no disrespect, I can find humor in really bad stuff)

"Hello, Mr. Bynum? This is Karma calling."

I don't know if we'd let Greg just walk, unless it was really career threatening. But who knows at this point. But we won't have to worry about three guys making near max money.

There's no way he would ask for max money at this point.

well greg probably wont want to be extended this summer. him and his agent probably want him to have a good year next year so he can get a bigger contract..

Well, that's true, but we'll still have irrational "experts" thinking Oden is the next Shaq.

I think Oden owes something to Portland really. injuries aren't his fault but he can't just leave us high and dry like this and bolt.

I don't think he gives up here on us. :sigh:

That will be awesome in terms of team chemistry.

If KP still believes in GO, he needs to offer him a 4 year/$32 million deal and see if he blinks. If KP doesn't believe in GO, may as well not extend him at all.

That doesn't really matter though. He's already been shown to be somewhat of a recluse. Now what?

What's the recovery time on this kind of injury though? I took Oden two seasons to get into this kind of game shape. Can we expect another two seasons before he's back to this? If that's the case, I don't think he'll be back to himself next season.

If you happen to read this Greg,
All the best for a speedy recovery and come back stronger, more beastly than ever.

Nate's doing a nice job of putting it in perspective in his postgame. You gotta feel sorry for Greg. The dude worked real hard in the summer to come into this season in shape, he worked all off-season with Bayno and Brian Grant on his post moves, and he was slowly gaining confidence in himself that he could be a beast.... I feel real bad for the big guy.

Everybody feels bad for him. It is DEVASTATING to this franchise right now.

is he playing too heavy? yao had a series of injuries and now his career looks like it might be in jeopardy, same with bynum and this might be oden's second serious knee injury. with the speed of the modern nba- can big, plodding big men survive? and all three of the these players are still very young men which makes their health concerns even more disconcerting.

Ilgauskas had problems, too. I think he's been sorta crippled most of his career even when he was able to play lots of games and minutes.

In a situation like this, I say fuck basketball. Oden sure seems like a good guy, and he's so young. To have to go through a 2nd surgery and rehab and perhaps a big hit against his next contract (or even no contract) has got to be so tough on him. I feel for the fans, obviously, who have so much invested emotionally in him for the team's sake. But for his sake, I hope he keeps his chin up and commits to coming back stronger than ever. Like I posted before, he's only 21 and this is far from a career ending type injury. He's got everything to work for and there's no reason to give up on him.

So anyway ... my bad on the sarcasm about Oden's ankle being season ending and then career threatening ... Get well soon big fella, I'm a douche.

There's no way he gives up.

I don't mean this in a bad way at all, but his future financial security, for his entire life, can hinge on the next contract he signs. As long as he comes back and looks to be able to move ok, it's going to mean a whole lot to him and everyone around him financially.

haha...guy calls into Courtside to talk about how he injured his kneecap and shattered it, and feels for Greg.

Jay Allen: "So how long did it take you to come back after rehab?"
Caller: "I didn't. I'm handicapped."
Jay: "Oh....... well, actually we don't know if Greg shattered his kneecap completely....."

He's going to just hang it up, everyone knows it's going to happen. He wants to be a dentist, and he has the money and time to finish up his real dream in life. I know that I would just say fuck it, it's too much pressure to have to come back from another season ending injury.

God speed Greg, I hope everything works out in the end!!

_______insert personal insult here. Oh and go ____ yourself. And uh go suck David Stern's ____. You ____ Laker's fan who has everything handed to him on a silver fucking platter.

A very sad moment.
It was so hard to see that man lying there pounding the floor with his fist, grimmacing in pain. I knew it was bad when his teammates rushed to his side. In pro sports that usually doesn't happen unless there something very serious happening.

What a season we're having....
Batum
Outlaw
Pendergraph
Mills
Fernandez
Outlaw
Oden
all injured....and on top of that the coach gets hurt practicing with the team and will require surgery and miss a four game road trip.

Then you have Paul Allen and Maurice Lucas both sick with cancer.

What kind of karma is that?

Hope (Grant Hill):

The Duke star's notorious string of ankle injuries began when he played through pain in the 2000 playoffs. Bad idea. That same bum ankle made his time in Orlando a complete failure (he played in only 47 games in four years), and in March 2003 doctors had to re-fracture it to realign it with his leg bone. (Five days after the surgery, he came down with a 104.5-degree fever and a potentially fatal infection.) But since he signed on with the Suns (and their legendary training staff) it's been smooth sailing. Well, for what Hill's used to, anyway. So far he's only had one hernia surgery

Oden is still young, dude just needs to drink more milk, that'll strengthen up his bones.

Bill Simmons Twitter -

@injuryexpert - We need u. How bad is fractured patella tendon career-wise? Also, this was left knee, he had microfracture on right. Fluke?

@sportsguy33 Its not bad career wise. Dumb luck injury and fx heal. Not related in any way to microfx. Just bad luck.

So overall he'll just miss time but it sounds like he can make a 100% recovery. Injuryexpert is Will Carroll is you are wondering, who is what his twitter name says.
