I am actually being smart and unemotional. The core needs to change, but that doesn't mean you do something stupid and give Panarin away, double so with only one season left on his deal, which will come with huge cap relief after next season. On top of that, Panarin actually produces in the regular season, and you need players like that. If you can get a top-level return for Panarin, and clear his full cap hit, of course I would trade him, but realistically I don't see that happening. I also don't see Zibanejad getting dealt either, but that is fully due to his contract with 5 long years remaining.
I would focus on core guys like Kreider and K. Miller at the top of the realistic list and see where it goes from there.
To be very clear, I don't disagree with your mindset at all Step, and everything, and I mean EVERYTHING should be on the table for the right return. I just don't think it is realistic to deal Zibanejad, without getting stuck with a bad deal or having to retain money. As for Panarin, unless you get an absolute haul, and clear his whole cap hit, I don't see how trading him makes the team better.
All of this is also impacted by my lack of faith in Drury to be creative and make shrewd deals. If I believed Drury could deal Panarin and turn that into open cap space and go add a big-time player with the money, again I am open to it, and EVERYTHING is on the table. Issue is I don't believe Drury is capable of pulling it off, so I would look at moving Panarin just to move him, and that doesn't make sense to me due to performance, huge cap relief after next season, and worst case you can flip him at the DL for a big return.
