Mid major guards have worked well for us and Cameron Payne looks like the next CJ/Lillard type. I would be all for trading up to get this guy.
Let's put together the MurraySt/Lehigh/WeberSt backcourt!

Maybe trade cash for a 2nd rounder and draft Tyler Harvey.. Add Eastern Washington to the mix!

I'm curious what people would think about drafting Robert Upshaw with our pick. Very high risk, but he seems like he could be the next Andre Drummond. I was way down on Drummond because of his immaturity and lack of drive for basketball. But, he seems to have overcome that with time. Maybe Upshaw needs the same. Looks like a real difference maker on the defensive end.

Why was he kicked out of not one but two programs mid-season?

I think there are better players to bet on... He was essentially kicked off of 2 different college teams. Not a strong track record there.

Yes, otherwise he'd be a lottery pick.

Questions about his maturity are founded, but there's no questioning his talent and potential.

In the 19 games he played before being dismissed by Washington,Upshaw averaged 10.9 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.5 blocked shots per game. As interior defensive presences go in this year's draft, Upshaw is an even better rim protector than the Kentucky Wildcats' Willie Cauley-Stein.

Because of his size, ability and maturity issues, it's easy to draw some comparisons between Upshaw and the Miami Heat's HassanWhiteside. The latter underwent a massive uptick in professionalism and it led to a breakout season.

Whiteside averaged 11.8 points, 10 rebounds and blocked 2.6 shots per game this past season. This is the type of production Upshaw is capable of if he can focus on developing his craft.

Upshaw is just 21 years old, so he has time to grow. No one is a finished product at that age.

Notice there is no comma after "why" in my question. I'm asking for the reason he was kicked out, not whether or not he was.

Ah, I never was very goodly at English.

The first time it was some form of drug use. The removal from UW was never stated. He did spend some time in John Lucas' drug rehab. Our president might have smoked more weed than this guy for all we know.

One type of player we lack is an athletic 4 who can defend any frontcourt position. Sort of what we hoped T-Rob could be. Turns out there are a few like that.
One player who is projected to go right around our pick is Montrezl Harrell, and I would be very happy to get him. He looks the ideal kind of energy guy, and would complement Meyers nicely.

He's a bit short, but he makes up for it by having ridiculously humungoid arms and a nasty streak.

A bit further down the draft, the following players will be available: Jordan Mickey, who has torn up the combine (he had 12 blocks in two games) and is still young, declaring after his sophomore season

Probably firmly in the second round (but rising) we find Richaun Holmes, who has also looked good, both in Chicago and in the Portsmouth Invitational. He comes from the MAC (like Gary "Shaq of the Mac" Trent) but hasn't seemed fazed against people from bigger conferences.

Finally, possibly undrafted, we have Branden Dawson. He needs to get some offense, and he's undersized, but ridiculously athletic. Could he be a Bo "not Travis" Outlaw type?

If (a) the plan is to maximize cap space for free agency, and
(b) we don't trade up or
(c) we get a second-round pick
then my nomination for draft and stash (as he's said he wants to stay at least another year in Europe) is Cedi Osman (who seems to have something against Real Madrid's big-name PGs)

I hereby christen him "The Turkish Brent Barry"

I get a little more than concerned about international players in the top 10 of the draft.

Let's change it to Lottery. In the past 10 years the track record isn't great but not terrible...

Good:
Andrew Bogut
Al Horford
Tristan Thompson
Andrew Wiggins

Rotational/Disappointing:
Andrea Bargnani
Thabo Sefolosha
Danilo Gallinari
Ricky Rubio
Enes Kanter
Bismack Biyomba

Bust:
Yaroslav Korolev
Mouhamed Sene
Yi Jianlian
Hasheem Thabeet
Jan Vesely
Anthony Bennett

Never/Haven't came over:
Fran Vazquez
Dario Saric

Too early to tell:
Jonas Valanciunas (Leaning towards disappointing)
Alex Len (Leaning towards good)
Steven Adams (Leaning towards rotational)
Kelly Olynyk (Leaning towards rotational)
Joel Embiid (no idea)
Dante Exum (Leaning towards disappointing)
Nik Stauskas (Leaning towards bust)

I think that list is a little misleading though...

Andrew Bogut (Utah Utes)
Al Horford (Florida Gators)
Tristan Thompson (Texas Longhorns)
Andrew Wiggins (2 years Huntington Prep in West Virginia, Kentucky Wildcats)

So the 4 "Good" guys all played Division 1 Basketball in the USA. So did Thabeet (UCONN), Bennett (UNLV), Len (Maryland), Adams (PITT), Olynyk (Gonzaga), Embiid (Kansas) and Stauskus (Mich).

Oh, I thought you just meant international in general, my bad.

But why should this concern you now? We don't HAVE a lottery pick. Or are you responding to the Fez conjecture that (a) we're moving up (b) to get Hezonja?

OUT of the lottery, if the 2013 draft is any indication, international is the way to go:

15. Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo SF
16. Celtics Lucas Nogueira C
17. Hawks Dennis Schroeder PG

18. Hawks Shane Larkin PG
19. Cavaliers Sergey Karasev SG
20. Bulls Tony Snell SF
21. Jazz Gorgui Dieng C
22. Nets Mason Plumlee C
23. Pacers Solomon Hill SF
24. Knicks Tim Hardaway Jr. SG
25. Clippers Reggie Bullock SG
26. Timberwolves Andre Roberson SF
27. Nuggets Rudy Gobert C
28. Spurs Livio Jean-Charles PF

29. Thunder Archie Goodwin SG
30. Suns Nemanja Nedovic

Couple of duds in there, but I bet the internationals could beat the Yanks, especially if we bend your rule and Dieng plays for the internationals.

Schroeder
Nedovic
Karasev
Giannis
Gobert

Vs

Larkin
Hardaway
Snell
Hill
Plumlee

That would be interesting
