So just as my personal perception. I teach and I have a little feel for things as i see the way people watch and position themselves for lecture or teaching. They are obviously going over tape or plays or some form of informative screen work.
People who sit in positions and in certain body positions tend to be the best students and work harder to achieve than others. Front row is good but those that sit at a 45-60 degree angle from center are the top students. This would put Clingan and Jackie(Yeah I know that isn't the way you spell it) in the prime spots as well as Sharpe.
I'm not certain who that is with the ball in the front row? Also touching your face when listening shows a form of engagement to what is being taught.
I'm not sure on the seating arrangement but I always allowed people to choose their own seats for this very purpose.

Might be nothing but seeing some of these things is encouraging. Holding a ball is not a bad thing either. It allows for comfort in your surroundings and can also be a calming mechanism.
 
Here is the tip-in by Zach Edey at the buzzer to force overtime.

He had 7-footers on either side of him, Walker Kessler and Kyle Filipowski.

He's a big dude. He's gonna score points. He's going to commit a shit ton of fouls... fouls that were not called on him much in that game. But the main issue is that most teams aren't going to feed this guy in the post and he's going to get played off the floor in the playoffs.

I have trouble understanding what Utah is aiming to do, seems like they don't want to have anybody on the roster.

Going to be a fun player to watch. I think he'll either be a very good starter in a Yao lite mode or nearly worthless, because his own team has to change so much of their offensive and defensive schemes while he is playing.

I'm not sure a team with Ja is ideal for that, but maybe they can stagger the two the majority of their minutes and run heavy specialized schemes for those Edey portions.

I also question even if he is very effective in the regular season how much transfers to the playoffs. We might actually see this year as Memphis could bounce back to many more wins, people forget they were the #2 seed in 2023.

Memphis was the #2 seed two consecutive seasons, with Steven Adams at center.

It's no fun trying to keep up with Ja, definitely not fun if you have to worry about running into Adams, or now, Zach Edey.

He will still have big impact without being 'fed' touches in the post.

Being played off the floor is not unique to Edey. He will not be any worse than Clingan, Nurk, Zubac, Adams, etc. Not sure why Edey keeps getting penalized for being 'drop coverage' big - while Clingan did not.

Clingan is universally accepted to be a better defensive player by a wide margin. I would think that is why.

He'll be playing for the Grizzlies.
Edey doesn't need to be fed anything except sure dunks because he's going to set monster picks for a super-star guard that is already very difficult to defend.

But he's really not. I've watched a lot of film on both guys.

Yes, he's better in spacial awareness than Edey is. But he's not any quicker/faster/etc. Both are relatively slow, drop coverage bigs. Neither one will be able to guard on the perimeter.

The way Edey played defense in college appeared that the coaches directed him to avoid fouling at all costs. It will be very interesting how this plays out if the coaches give Edey the green light to be more aggressive on D.

I vaguely remember hearing or reading a story regarding Kessler a month or two ago. Can't remember what the knock on him was, but it was not his basketball abilities, or lack of. Something else entirely but I don't even want to throw anything out because I absolutely can not remember what the problem is, and postulating like that is not fair to anyone. And to be honest, I don't recall who the source was, nor if they are even credible. Moving in another direction, Ainge didn't't draft Kessler. He was a throw in from his house cleaning. He might just want his own guys. Who knows?

Clingan had a really good block% in college. It was elite, almost twice that of Edey. Their rebounding was about the same.

I just never bought the whole "edey is so slow other teams will score 200 points if we play him and Clingan is a defensive superstar" narrative.

Clingan probably is better using that block% as a barometer, but Edey looked so much better on offense.

Maybe in the NBA they'll just be getting garbage points anyway and it won't matter. But it'll suck if we took the wrong guy. I was a big advocate for taking Edey at 7.

Haven’t watched a second of summer league action so far…. But just noticed JJ Reddick is t coaching the Lakers. Seems like he’d want to get all the reps he could.

Hey on a side note I was over at Grant Park today. There used to be a burger place called Bocs down the street. When did that place disappear?
 
Cling Kong was a sophomore, Edey should be ahead of him after 4 years of college. What Edey is now is what he is imo. I think Cling has a much higher ceiling and will eventually be the superior player.
