A playground HE DOES NOT OWN! The city/state owns the Moda Center. Why would he invest money into a building he doesn't own?!?!
Would you remodel a house you are renting?
That's the weird thing about this.
While I'm not saying owners shouldnt foot the bill for things, but the city is the one who benefits a lot from owning the Moda.
We had such a unique deal with the Moda, in that the city didn't have to pay much for it originally and got a good deal when the team sold it to them.
Most cities don't have that luxury.
While it does make it simpler to leave potentially (Dundon/Blazers have no obligation to the Moda so it won't matter to them if it sits empty if they leave), it also means the franchise doesn't have to 100% foot the bill to replace.
I really can't wait until the city finalizes the funding.
As far as moving, I can't imagine that the NBA wants that, nor do I think he actually would profit enough to justify selling it. There really aren't significantly better markets (that don't have an NBA team already or are about to get one) where the teams value increases enough to justify it.
And it really isn't a good look for the NBA to finally do an expansion only to move a team away from its market after almost 60 years and profiting as much as the team does.
Their operating income was pretty solid considering how much of a train wreck the team was on the court.
Dundon might not "care about Portland" like Quick is saying, but that doesn't necessarily mean he wants to move. It might have just been a "I want a team I don't care where it is located" thing.
It doesn't seem that a group that wasn't even able to buy the team outright, and had to have *multiple* partners, has the strongest case for them needing to move.
And like I said earlier, it was a lot different in 2007 than now, and the Thunder collectively have more wealth tied to their franchise making those kinds of choices a little easier.
While I don't deny that theres a chance the team could relocate, it kinda feels more a sensationalistic podcast appearance by Quick.
And for as often as he's been proven to be an unreliable source of anything, I have a hard time believing that he's not manipulating some of the information to make it sound worse than it is.
I.e., if it bleeds it leads.
Would any of us cared if the headline didn't outright say what most of us fear is happening?

Yeah me too!
