The "Anybody but Stotts" thing is such a straw man.

No one and I mean no one ever said anybody but Stotts and if they did they were speaking in hyperbole. What people wanted then and what a lot of us want now is for the president of basketball ops to be fired, for the team to hire someone better... at this point that just means someone who isn't emotionally attached to this constantly flawed roster and who has experience either as a GM or assistant GM with a good track record.

When people said "fire Stotts" most of us wanted Olshey gone first and then the new GM to hire a head coach who would be on board with the same approach to team building going forward. That's what I want now, new ownership should bring in a new head of basketball ops and that person should bring in a head coach of their choosing.

They got the #1 pick as a team that was in the play-in. That by default means they're in a better place than a team that was bottom 5 of the league.
Guess my point is they are only a 33 win team right now. Probably still play in team.

Splitter will go back to the bench, unless the new coach wants his own guys.

Cronin's days are likely numbered, though Dundon might keep around a bit longer. He may also want to clean house and put in his own choice of GM.

Dundon will try and have Grant and maybe Jrues contracts moved. Grant may again, get no takers.

Dundon, make trade some younger players like Sharpe to bring in better fits or to put together a more experienced roster.

Exciting
Sit on the fence much? JK .

I would swear there were about 15-20 guys that said, when asked who do we bring in said they had no idea, but anybody was better. Am I wrong?

I wish I could get enthused about this guy. I now realize, after grousing about our Allen owners, that they were about as un-asshole as any Billionaires could be, and that every alternative is going to be orders of magnitude worse. Still, at least we dodged Larry Ellison.

So my main man completely shits the bed at the college level and of course that means success in the pros……. Simply cause he grew up here in the neighborhood? That doesn’t make sense FAMS!

I don't think people actually think things through. If he at least had a modicum of success in college, it would make sense.

Now if you wanted a local kid to coach, they should have either hired me or Coach Ime.

Yeah like I said if they were saying anybody that was either hyperbole or stupidity. At the same time asking a fan who they want instead of the coach they want out after he had set the record for most seasons coached for one team without a finals appearance, isn't a good faith question.

None of us should know who, out of the available coaches, the next great coach will be, maybe a few in here do but probably not me. Also as fans we shouldn't be expected to know the solution just because we're identifying a problem.

Olshey should have gone, the new head of basketball ops probably wouldn't have and shouldn't have kept a coach that had set the record for most consecutive seasons coached without a finals appearance and that's all there was to it from me and many many fans back then.

I don't know how Mighty Mouse would be on the mic but I wouldn't mind having a guy who started meaningful games for our Blazers doing the color commentary for the tv broadcasts.

It would be asinine to bring in Damion to be the teams head coach.

For those who say he's going to fire the GM, what GM out there would want to work for a guy who just fired the guy who fixed the books, cleaned the roster from a lot of Olsheys clusterfuck, created a LOT of draft capitol that they were sorely lacking, was able to get a draft expert on his team, several other sought after people to join the team and drafted a player who in his 2nd year is already considered among the best of his draft class (and a LOT better than most of us thought he would be)?

I'd say the hits on DC, Tou and Deni out weigh the perceived negatives on Scoot and Yang (which it's stupid early to know that about Yang).

And adding Schmitz and Serge were huge for a franchise that had nothing in the way of international scouting or draft gurus.

WHY would any GM with any dignity see that and think "oh yeah, I totally want to go there! Stable city, baby!"

And what coach, next year, is going to improve on all of the things this team sucks at?
The answer to the first question is: a lot of people. A lot of people - qualified - would take the GM job in Portland. There are only 30 of them. And I do not think the external viewpoint of Cronin is all that great. Its not like we would be firing Brad Stevens or Sam Presti. They would be firing a GM that has never made the playoffs and has missed on some 1st round picks. He's not that impressive.

I was ambivalent on Cronin until they booted Coward for Yang. I think 90% of this place was too. Of course it took all of 3 minutes before it turned into Yang is the next Yao/Jokic mix. It felt like overthinking - overanalyzing and trying to be the smartest guys in the world by taking some diamond in the rough. Maybe Hansen turns out great. But the team could sure have used Coward.

My prediction is that Dundon will not buy the Blazers; instead, he and Cuban will buy the Seahawks.

Jody and PA's estate will be fine with this because, with the funding for the Moda improvements now in place, the team's valuation has increased.
