Not sure if I shared in another thread last night or not….. but got the chance to catch up with LA walking out of the arena. I know he burnt a lot of bridges or ALL the bridges here in town on his way out….. but he really is a cool dude. Said it had been too long since he was in town and so happy to be back and see so many people he knows. Said it was great to catch up with Dame and be back at the practice facility. Said he lives in Austin.

I don't really get this post.

One point that people seem to repeatedly miss is that the Blazers don't own Moda Center anymore, the Allen trust gave it to the city. So it's not the billionaire's playground anymore, it's our city's.

Why would the billionaire subsidize the city upgrading their building with anything more than whatever the city and billionaire agree to for the guaranteed 20 year lease?

Also, you'll be kicked out of any public venue if you have obscenities on your clothing... if security bothers to check. I guarantee you won't get kicked out of a Blazers game if you wear a shirt that says, "Dundon is a cheapskate" on it.

To be fair just about everyone who Quick has interviewed seems like they want to flip him off because the dude is a snake.

I'm not guaranteeing the team is staying but I've said it many many times before the reporting has been that the state, county and city governments are all on board to fund the arena renovations at the $600M that Dundon has said would trigger a 20 year lease that would guarantee the team is here for the next two decades.

One of those governmental bodies has already approved the funding and the other two were reported to be just as on board before more than 80% of them went silent because they signed an NDA to be part of figuring everything out with the team.

but just 1 week ago, it was announced that the City is facing a 172M budget shortfall. The Mayor proposd cutting over 200 jobs. 60M in service cuts including the police losing at least 20M, and basically exhausting any reserves. In that climate, the city might find it difficult to justify a 150M bailout of the Moda center, especially after all the bad PR about Dundon's penny pinching

I'd say if Dundon was truly willing to sign a 20 year lease extension on the Moda contingent on public financing, there's not a thing preventing him from signing it right now. Maybe he's ready to do so, but some skepticism is justified

IMO, the state, city, and county have been way too willing to panic and give away all their leverage. The NBA grift is working I guess

If that's how he feels and the NBA allows it to happen, then theyve pretty much told all small market teams they don't matter.

Losing the Seattle market, waiting 20 years to replace it to then lose the Portland market would be the biggest self inflicted wound imaginable.

Especially considering there are significantly worse markets out there that are in significantly worse shape in regards to franchise value, support and health.

If that's the end result of what the group wants to do, Id never watch another NBA game and would never want them to return.

I'll just say this isn't the 2007 world anymore. The Sonics were sold for a 10th of what the Blazers were. I doubt Dundon, who isn't that rich and is historically a cheap owner, wants to spend the relocation fees of moving the team, let alone the lawsuit from the city.

Seattle already set the precedent for compensation and you could argue that it'd be a LOT more now. If I'm the state and the city, id sue for the amount of $ lost each year for the length of the contract that they've talked about. So 20 ( years ) x 500 million, or 10 billion. And I wouldn't settle like the mayor of Seattle did.

If the happens, this would be worse than the Sonics leaving because they should have known better.

Not saying I think quick is correct tho, but it would 100% kill any interest in the NBA permanently.

Yeah, I'm not saying it's good or bad but I do think it's happening.

The Mayor recently said that the Moda Center project and development of the surrounding area will create jobs and money for the city.

I think given the track record of Dundon in Raleigh, he's likely rallying other business owners to develop the surrounding area because that's what he's done in North Carolina.

Another reason I don't think we lose the team. Adam Silver came in here an left happy and not sounding any of the alarms that Stern did when he was letting Bennett fuck over Seattle.

I think right now there is a vacuum of information due to the NDA that the new ownership group required for politicians to be involved with the planning of the Moda Center renovation project. I think that's just fine with the media because they get to scare people with clickbait that has no substance behind it.

I guess we'll see but I agree with you that it will be fucked up if they move the team but I give that fucked up outcome like a 10% chance of happening just based on what's been reported with sources.
