Disagree from this perspective: You already are defensively-challenged at the 1 and 2. If you put a guy at the 3 that struggles with defense, opposing teams are just going to kill you on the perimeter. Aminu's value is accentuated by the role he plays and how it fits into the whole scheme of things.

On one hand, you win by scoring more points than the other team. On the other hand, you win by forcing your opponents to score less than you. It's tough to decide.

Actually, I want to correct myself.

Snell was all nba summer league 1st team.

I'd also point out that both Mirotic and McDermott are likely available, too.

Offensively, he would be a pretty massive upgrade over Aminu.

Gay is averaging 18 ppg, 6.7 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and he's shooting 47% from the field / 34% from three.

Aminu is averaging 10 ppg, 6.4 rebounds, 1 steal, and he's shooting 41% from the field/ 35% from three.

Defensively Aminu is clearly superior, but I'd say right now this team could really use a reliable third scorer.

He also takes over 5 more shots per game to get to a little over 7 more ppg.

Ya we don't have 15 shots to spare for Gay in our system.

Lillard is taking 20 shots per game and shooting 42% from the floor. TS% of 54.7

CJ is taking 18.3 shots per game and shooting 44% from the floor. TS% of 53.2

Aminu is taking 9 shots per game and shooting 41% from the floor. TS% of 51.7

Compare that to Gay, who is currently taking 15 shots per game and shooting 47% from the floor. TS% of 54.6

Yeah....... I'd be comfortable taking a few shots away from those other guys and giving Gay his 15 shots.

You want to take shots away from Lillard and cj to give to gay?

You never can lose a game in which the other team doesn't score. The worst you can do is tie.

But I just think it would be a mistake to have all three perimeter starters to be substandard defenders. Right now, if the opposition's best offensive player is at the 2 or 3, you can put Aminu on that player at least in certain situations. With Dame, CJ and Gay, you don't get to do that. You just hope you can keep trading baskets.

You land gay, you figure crabbe loses out on a chunk of minutes, as do aminu and vonleh. So we lose out on developmental minutes for a 20 year old and 23 year old who could be part of our future, as well as time for a much better defender in aminu. At 15 or so shots per game, he's stealing say 3 each from aminu and crabbe, and 4 each from Lillard and cj. So you got him about on par with cj in attempts, knocked Lillard down to close as well. Killed crabbe's.
And yet, we're currently 7th in ortg, 18th in drtg, and the answer is to sacrifice defense for offense? I don't get that at all.

Why does that matter?
The TS% accounts for the difference between a 3 & 2. Gay has the second highest TS% on that group.
It matters because he's the worst 3 point shooter in the group.

It does but not in relation to the amount of each. For an example, let's pretend Gay only took 3's. He shoots 34% (which I not trying to say is absolutely horrible but we have guys we would rather shoot that shot that shoot it better) and his TS would fall even though his FT builds it back up a bit. So instead you want him taking shots he does well at which are driving shots.

As the father of the "feast or famine" theory regarding Lillard, Yes I would def agree with you

I'd like to see Rudy Gay try to hold Lebron to a season low 11 pts in a game sometime...Aminu is a better defender

Aminu did a GREAT job that night. It was tempered a bit by the story that came out that the game against the Blazers was basically a 'strike' game in protest against David Blatt.

Gasol being aggressively shopped by CHI to clear 5 mil to get under the tax limit on what's turning out to be a lost season.

Can we get in on a three-way, absorb salary (Noah/Gasol/etc) and steal their pick this year? They have their own, and also SAC's (top 10 protected)

Rudy Gay is exactly the type of player I don't want the blazers getting right now. Not good enough to make you a contender but will steal developmental minutes away from younger players.
And that's also probably what you would have said about Gerald Henderson.

Pau Gasol, Kirk Hinrich, and any other cap they wanna dump for Henderson, Meyers, and a future 1st
