it doesn't exist- b/c much like in this clip he doesn't have the capacity to square up and knock down the J. Here, instead of taking the open 10 footer- he instead opts for some sort of one handed shot-put. This goes back to the whole- if he had it in his bag he would do it. No NBA player is going to not shoot that shot if it's an effective/efficient part of their game. Hell there's plenty of players in the league who take dumb shots that aren't effective. Why, would a guy like Plumlee (who's coming due for a contract next season) not show what he's got? Or, is it more likely that a player doesn't have that in his skill set and does well to play within himself?

That would have been a dumb shot even if it were a jumper. He shouldn't have shot the ball at all. I'm still wondering what this has to do with his low post footwork.

You're going to judge his footwork based upon a contested fadeaway high post jumper? It's a fade away. From the high post. It's late in the shot clock too...

Learn the game then post.

Appreciate the feedback! I'll be sure to take that under consideration in all my posts going forward!

Well the 1st video showed his footwork, or lack thereof - moving in the post, after the catch, and then working for the shot.

The 2nd video wasn't about his footwork, but about his shot taking and making ability. That was the point. That it was #1 a dumb shot, and #2 he lacks the ability to finish on anything outside a few feet.

But again, I appreciate the feedback!

Fuck our offense is so ugly right now

The first video didn't show his footwork at all. It showed a desperation shot with 4 seconds left on the shot clock. It did not prove your point at all.

With regard to the second video, how come you haven't posted any of the many lovely hook shots that he's made? Why haven't you posted any of the nice moves? They are there. I'm sure you could find them with the access to as much video as you have. Now, while his field goal percentage is down from previous seasons he's a career 57% FG shooter.

The trick at the deadline is gonna be acquiring as much talent (that fits the system and culture) now without giving up future potential or flexibility.

I have no idea on who we child get that doesnt detract from one of those things.

Well in fairness, his effectiveness in the post isn't really relevant to the point Dan was making; he was initially arguing with my assertion that Plumlee might actually be effective in spot up situations from 15-18 feet in the pick-and-pop. I based this claim on my observation of Plumlee practicing and hitting several jump shots from that range during pregame warm-ups before the Charlotte game, noting that his form from that distance is actually far superior to his form from closer in, or from the free throw line.

Of course, the prevailing forum wisdom is that since he doesn't take shots from that distance and isn't used in the offense in that manner, it must mean that he is incapable of doing so. Apparently, what I observed was either a mirage or something he's only capable of doing when he's the only player on the floor.

I think we gotta shop Crabbe and Meyers at the deadline. They're going to get overpaid from someone, and if it's us we could be stuck being mediocre for years. Instead, I think there's teams that give up a lot for Crabbe (like a young Batum).

I'd take this chance on Horford resigning. He's the best PF/C in league in terms of fit for us. Could play with any of our remaining bigs at the same time. Stretches to the 3 point line and protects the rim and has some low post game. Atlanta trades him based on the chance of him not resigning.

Worst case scenario? He doesn't resign but then we will have $45M in cap with our core still intact.
Best case scenario? He resigns and helps Dame and CJ convince a star to come (Then were contenders). If not a star, we can use the remaining $25M+ to fill out the team/make trades.

Lillard / McCollum
McCollum / Henderson
Aminu / Dudley
Vonleh / Davis
Horford / Plumlee

That's a team that could get the 6th seed and make a series with OKC interesting.

Adding Horford without losing CJ--obviously that'd be awesome. But I don't see the point of the Washington portion of that deal. To replace Harkless with Dudley? I'll pass on that part.

I just want a vet 3 and D SF to backup Aminu if we lose Crabbe. But that deal was secondary.

I really think we should explore trading Crabbe and Meyers for him. Horfords the perfect fit for us and we are for him.

You've got to keep Crabbe if your Portland. He's a lights out shooter who's showing incredible progression in all other facets of the game: on ball defense, playing the passing lanes, shooting off the dribble, and attacking the basket. He forms a fantastic three-guard rotation with Dame and CJ and I think we'd be foolish to break that up.

Meyers on the other hand? I'd look to see what teams would offer at the deadline, because I wouldn't want to overpay for him this summer.

But his ability to finish inside has gone way down. From 76% as a rookie down to 62% this year from 0-3 range. And 51% is not really a good percentage for a garbage man center. Joel Pryzbilla is a career 55% shooter and shot 62% from 0-3.

Just throwing this out there......

What if we don't do any trades what so ever?

Happiness level reading to that would be.......

On the one hand, we don't need to make a trade.
OTOH, if we don't use any of our cap space in any transaction, if would be a waste of resources.

Biebs "gambled on himself" and lost.

Crabbe ain't leaving come on. Yeah he's made money this season but I don't look at that as a bad thing. He'll be worth the money.

That's why we could get something for Crabbe. Meyers wont be anything more than a sweetener. Sure Crabbe is nice but I don't we should post a guy $12M to average 10ppg with inconsistent defense off the bench. Instead, you have to accept a trade of your turning 2 role players into an all star big, especially if that big has the skillset and personality that's made for the organization.

Crabbe is a starting caliber player coming off the bench. It's a luxury worth paying. As for the inconsistent defense comment...no. He brings it every night.

I'm not saying I don't want someone like horford but I also don't think it's a necessity. I believe in Vonleh so if you ask me would I rather have crabbe or horford I'll go with crabbe.

Some of you homers are so blind. I think we feel like Crabbe is a better defender than he is because CJ and Dame are so bad. Crabbe is a borderline starter. A Courtney Lee type. And to say you'd rather have that then a star big man is crazy.

You realize it's possible that both perspectives are valid, right? Crabbe/Leonard for Horford would (most likely) make the team better, both short and long term. However, Crabbe likely still has room for growth in his game on both sides of the ball, and would be quite valuable to this team as a 3rd guard playing starter's minutes at $12M/season.

Yes, I'd do the trade you suggest if it's offered, but if it doesn't happen that doesn't mean that Crabbe is some waste of space and will be vastly overpaid. It's very possible that he's going to be worth exactly what he's paid, and then some.

The only way you move for Horford- in my opinion- is two fold.

#1 you have a guarantee that he'll resign (remember he's a FA after the season) so that's a HUGE if. Personally, I'm not moving Crabbe/Leonard 2 guys that I have the option to match on if necessary for a 3 month rental of Horford.

#2 I only make that move for Horford if you determine that he's the last guy needed to complete the team. He's a little outside the age window that Olshey has associated w/this team, so looking to add him to me seems like a final piece type addition- not the bedrock upon which you build a team. If this was 3 years ago, totally different story.

I wouldn't trade for him now either. Though I think he might be a good free agent target in the offeason. Why give up an asset like Crabbe when you can just try to sign Al in the offseason?

Why trade for Horford when you can just outright sign him in the offseason? Makes no sense.

I think he would be the perfect pick up though. He's the type of player that is going to be playing the same way until he's 38. Not reliant on athleticism. Shoots midrange jumpers, makes smart plays.

Exactly. I wasn't saying crabbe is a better player than horford. Just that I wouldn't give up an asset like crabbe for him. It's not like were contending this year, there'd be no point to it.

in a hypothetical word- the deal is worked out in the background, and the trade is agreed to on this premise. This keeps the competition to a minimum for his services... technically against the CBA but I've always heard rumblings of this kind of thing happening. That's only justification for going the route of the trade in my opinion- even then, I'm not someone who wants Horford here now anyways.

Larry Sanders is coming back to the NBA. Does Olshey go after him?

What makes you guys think a player like Horford would sign here? Have we ever got a big name All Star free agent to sign here? If we could land him though we would be instant contenders.
