When will the first big news trade be?

Anybody holding out that something goes down tomorrow?

Who thinks it's all going to be last minute?

I think it all goes down Thursday; and it'll be a historic year of trades. Teams are lining up their options and offers similar to draft prep. With NBA contracts being less years players are hitting free agency more often so there is less reason to keep a guy on your team the current season if you can't contend. There's a lot of teams who think they're a player away too. I also like how we don't have any actual games until the deadline passes.

Rockets get: Whiteside, Dragic, & James Anderson
Heat get: Horford & Teague
Hawks get: Howard

Houston is trying to get more.

The Heat appear to be the clear winner in this trade rumor.

The ironic part about that proposed trade is that at one point in the last two years, there have been posters on this board who have expressed interest in everyone of those 6 players. Even James Anderson during the draft last year. I think Houston actually does pretty well in that scenario. But I also agree with BDS, PG's skills are wasted next to Harden.

Wait so all Miami gives up is whiteside and Dragic and they get back horford and Teague? Huh?

Everything will def go down Thursday. Last year pretty much every trade went down day of

Whiteside is going to flop big time in Houston and then he leaves for nothing.

Update.
The report does say James Anderson; however he plays for the Kings.
My guess, the correct player is Chris Andersen from Miami to the Rockets. The trade with Chris not James works on the ESPN trade machine.

Sorry, man. I check some of the sites every hour or two, but historically, we won't hear about much before Wed. afternoon. Most of the action will take place Thursday.... but I'll keep checking, anyway. :(

If Altanta breaks up their core I see them getting picks and youth not Dwight. Horford is better than Dwight.

Guys I think we should be kicking the tires on:

Kelly Olynyk- stretches floor and shows good Bball iq.
John Henson- similar option to nerlens Noel IMO that will be cheaper than Noel shortly
Greg Monroe- love his game. He was a very good passer coming out of college as well. Gives us a scoring presence when the game slows down.
Alex Len- stuck behind aging Tyson chandler who was just signed this summer.
Joel Embiid- boom or bust play.
Dieng- young, good defender with improving offensive game.

Long Shots:
Al Horford
Paul Milsap
Hassan Whiteside
Jonas Valanciunas
Blake Griffin

Delete Teague and the trade makes more sense, although it still slightly overvalues Howard.

If I am Phoenix and I suck as bad as I do.....I am basically starting over. So I don't trade my young center. HOWEVER I would trade my Vet who is making 13 million for another 3 years.

Phoenix is notoriously cheap and needs to develop Len. We have cap space and we need a rim protector who just needs to play 20-24 minutes a game. Sure Chandler is getting old, but players like him are often effective until their mid 30's. Maybe that is who we kick the tires on?

I think it would make some sense for sure. Maybe they would throw in some picks to take that contract off their hands

Is there any way around us not being able to deal a 1st round pick until after the draft? Is that even true? Could we just do "future considerations" or a pick swap? I'm asking because Zack Lowe mentioned Milwaukee might part with Greg Monroe for a 1st, and he also mentioned Portland's interest.

Lowe: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/14783975/the-nba-trade-deadline-full-big-names-cap-questions

Portland Trail Blazers: The Blazers are being pulled in opposite directions. They are way ahead of schedule at 27-27, to the point that Neil Olshey, the team's deal-makin' GM, might pivot into "buy" mode if he finds a young-ish player who fits the timeline of Damian Lillard andC.J. McCollum. The Blazers have pursued Monroe before, and despite Milwaukee striking a strong pose in some talks, Monroe could be had if some suitor tosses in a decent first-round pick.

Portland has $20 million in cap room to play with, plus two restricted free agents -- Allen Crabbe and Meyers Leonard -- due big raises under the skyrocketing cap. Teams queasy about paying their restricted free agents ditched them at least season's deadline, when Brandon Knight,Reggie Jackson and Enes Kanter flew around the league.

The Blazers are high on Crabbe, but Leonard's asking price in preseason extension talks gave them sticker shock. (The restricted free-agency thing is yet another reason to keep an eye on Boston, with both Jared Sullinger and Tyler Zeller ticking toward it).

Alas, the Blazers owe their pick to Denver if they make the playoffs, and given Olshey's draft record, he might prefer to keep it. My best guess: Portland avoids an upgrade, uses its space to nab a couple of extra second-rounders and resumes its pursuit of Monroe -- or someone else -- around draft time.

I have 0 interest in Monroe. You lucked out of that, Neil. Don't go chasing it again. Monroe would not fit here.

I doubt it, but I'm not a detail guy.

Those are exactly the two ways around it. You can include "next available first round pick" in a deal as long as current pick protections don't make it possible for "next available" to me more than 7 years out (ours don't), and you can have pick swap options adjacent to years in which your pick has already been committed elsewhere (see Brooklyn's pick commitments to Boston).

I have mixed feelings on Monroe. I have never been a huge fan but no doubt he has offensive skills. If you surround him with good defensive forwards, then the scoring threesome of Lillard, CJ and Monroe could be effective.
He doesn't protect the rim. He's miserable at switching on to guards and wings. And on offense, he doesn't really score on the P&R like Ed or Mase, but he occupies spots on the floor that are crucial to create spacing for Dame and CJ. It's different if he were next to a guy who plays in the post or elbow like Aldridge. But our free flowing game now does not fit with what Monroe brings. And that contract... ugh. Stay away!

OK you convinced me:cheers:

Woj says PHX wants a first round pick and a young player for Markieff.

Talk about delusional

I think we're still in the "release bogus rumors to try to drive the price up" phase right now. As we move closer to to Thursday, the price will come down.

Phoenix ain't getting a pick and a young player for Morris.

LAC ain't getting half the Nuggets team for Blake Griffin.

I could see Houston and Miami swapping Whiteside and Howard, but that's not a needle mover for either team. I don't think Howard gets Miami back into the ECF (especially if Bosh is out) and I don't think Whiteside does a damn thing for Houston. Hopefully he bails on them after this year, which would be hilarious.

How funny would it be if the Spurs traded LMA for either Love or Griffin?
