But why wouldn’t that have been the case in 2008 with guys like Kobe and LeBron and Wade and Melo?
Back then that was great team and even though they were superstar they all took back step off there original egos and play a role very well. This team needs needs check some there egos and play a different role that there use to.

I think the problem is that the teams they've played against are (a) much more motivated, (b) have nothing to lose, and (c) are used to playing together (particularly Australia).
I also think Team USA is a smallball team, and that might work much better in the NBA than in international ball. Certainly the converse is true: players like Jahlil Okafor and good ol' Luis Scola are pretty much useless in the NBA but can still be stars in FIBA.
Oh, and (d) the US is just not hitting from outside yet. It was dumbfounding how much Nigeria outshot them from three.
Oh, and apparently (e):

Team USA better hurry up and gel, though. I really don't want to have to feel pity for them.

They're getting Booker and Middleton in a couple weeks. Calm down.
IMHO, it's weird that you bring this up considering it's Jrue Holiday and his defense that is desperately needed, and will be coming in a couple of weeks. If I were coach, I'd seriously consider starting Holiday next to Dame.

You do understand that Jokic and Embiid are not from the US right?

Didja by chance see the part (which you quoted) where I said "or because they’d be playing for someone else" because I feel like I addressed that part pretty clearly and didn't need the sass. Also, I would point out that we have had players in the past who were not born in the US but played for Team USA. Hakeem is a perfect example of that.

You also understand Kawhi and Davis are both injured right? Now Curry and Harden with Paul George might help a bit sure.
Booker, Middleton and Jrue might help as well as we will see i guess.

Regardless of why they're not on the team, it illustrates that this Team USA is missing most of the cream of the crop of the NBA. Go look at the starting fives of the past three or four Olympic teams and then compare it to this years starting five. It's a massive step down.

Facts ain't sass.

I'm not the one that likened Jokic or Embiid to the Olympic team.

I didn't liken them to the Olympic team. I said that most of the best players in the NBA are not on this team, for one reason or another. Jokic and Embiid are two of the best players in the NBA, are they not?

Yes they are. You are correct.
Now i understand why you have so many comments.

Not wanting to jinx things (BECAUSE THAT'S NOT AN ACTUAL THING, PEOPLE!) but what if Dame gets injured during this shitshow?

Accelerate the rebuild and make management's decision for them. (In regards to keeping Dame)

Most of these other teams have been practicing for a month. I think we can cut the USA Squad a little slack. Now Dame has been working out like a maniac since the season ended for his team. But he's a different kinda dude. This matters to him Bigtime!

Complete B.S. Then if that's the case, the Nets & Lakers ought to rebuild now cause there's no guaranty Injury Prone Kyrie, Harden, and Davis will ever stay healthy again.

Apparently I have so many comments because some people misread the initial statement and then instead of apologizing for their mistake, they keep doubling down :dunno:

Chill. Rasta was asking in the hypothetical scenario that Dame suffered an injury (like Paul George). I think that would motivate management to find a trade ASAP. Going into the tax for a season where Dame isn't playing is a non-starter. So that means not re-signing Powell, not making any moves to try to contend. They (the FO) have probably already internally discussed whether they can build a championship contender with Dame on a supermax. An injury would just make that decision easy for them.

If's and But's, candy and nuts.

You don't trade a generational talent away. The only team that wins, is the team that receives that generational talent. Talking about, what if's is silly. Enjoy the moment, it's fleeting. Dame is special. Let's enjoy the ride. Do you think Laker Fans are worried what will happen to LeBron and the Lakers if the Big One hits?
