If were not going to shoot well and turn the ball over while playing some of the most God awful defense I'v seen this year then were going to lose.
This loss has me pissed. I wanted to be the first team to 30 wins.

I understand Durant going off for 30+ even though Batum did a great job on him in the 4th quarter. But giving up 30 to Thaddeus Young on 70% shooting is not exactly 'good defense' by Nic.

And for all the love Mo got tonight, he shot 5-13 (38%) and had less than a 2/1 Asst/TO ratio. Quite generous for such a mediocre performance.

Shame we wasted such a good night for LA.

The crazy thing is that we seemed like we were in complete control.... and then it just fell apart. Couldn't buy a bucket, and to make matters worse, we were letting them get easy fast break buckets. Bad recipe for success.

Umkay, hands down.

And, one more time, show of hands, who thought Lillard or Matthews or Batum shot better than Mo Williams last night, and are upset that anyone had anything good to say about their favorite Blazer punching bag "Mo"?

Um-kay. Well I think we have all we need here.

Apparently, only the "realists" who believe the Blazers "came back down to earth" last night raised their hands? Interesting.

Actually, Nic was guarding MCW for most of the second half.

Also, I complimented my favorite punch bag last night, so I guess I'm mad at myself :devilwink:

I don't think we came back down to earth, but I think we thought it was going to be an easy game and Philly came out punching us in the mouth. Despite all that, it still seemed like we thought we could just coast and get the win, and we almost did. It was a perfect storm of shit with virtually every one of our shooters shooting poorly last night. Mo was the only guy who could hit a jumper. That's not going to happen often.

Did you feel my comment was directed at you? Cause it wasn't. ;)

Portland lost because they could not make a basket, and gave up 21 points off turnovers. This happens when a good team plays a bad team that plays YMCA, 1-on-1 basketball a majority of the time. It's hard to adjust. It's a different mindset. It requires even more concentration than with some of the better teams. But that this is really Portland's first real let down in 34 games is hardly something to gripe about.

Miami, SA, IND, OKC, they all lost to bad teams. It's just one game.

Hard to point fingers when the whole team shot poorly though. Dame was at least trying to get into the paint and draw fouls. We just seemed completely out of rhythm last night. It happens. This is one side effect of being a three point shooting team. There are going to be games where you make 21 threes, and there are going to be games where you go 3-21. It just happens. If we hit even 3 or 4 of those threes last night, we win the game easily.

The most concerning thing to me is our defense. We can't seem to keep people out of the paint, and a lot of that has to do with poor perimeter defense. Our guards can't seem to keep their man in front of them. Can't hang all the blame on our big guys who try to come over to help, which puts them out of position to get a rebound or prevent their own man from scoring.

I don't mind a night when our shot isn't falling. There's not much you can do about that. I just wish we were a better defensive team. We had a decent lead in the 4th and we just blew it. Wasn't it like 7 or 9 points? We started bricking shots and never could get a stop.

He "came back down to earth", meaning, he is always this bad, and it is a dream when he shoots any better. You know, because words have meaning and stuff. lol

Throwing crap at the wall to explain what happened and appease frustration is bound to happen after a bad loss. But the defense wasn't the issue. It was turnovers, giving up 21 points off turnovers, and 36% shooting. Can't really fault the D when you give the ball up and it leads to a fast break.

We were jacking up shots at one end and then allowing fast break layups at the other end. That's bad defense, plain and simple.

It's by design, in general. But yes, the Blazer back court struggles to stop penetration. But that's not why the Blazers lost. Portland shot 36%, gave up 21 points off 18 turnovers and only lost by 2. lol Think about that. Portland out rebounded Philly 19-6 on the offensive glass.

What does missing shots have to do with defense? Missed shots make it harder to get back on D. Is that a problem of the defense, or the offense? Hint: Off

It all boils down to effort. If you shoot a long three, you need to get back on defense to prevent your man from leaking out for a fast break.
