Saw this guy 5-6 times, and he never disappointed...I first saw him on 7/4/77 at the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando with The Eagles, Hall and Oates...The Eagles got top billing because, well they were The Eagles, and had just come out with Hotel California...but Jimmy stole the show and did a 10 minute version of "God's Own Drunk"...and when I got home I went out and bought every album of his. ("Son of a Son of a Sailor" is still my fav)
And I was actually at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta on one of the nights he cut the live album "You Had to be There".
The guy had a really tough life...go sailing all over the Gulf and central America, write a few songs, come back to the mainland, cut an album, and then back out to sea and start the whole cycle all over again...yeah, tough life.

This one really hurts... Thank you Jimmy...RIP

Jimmy Buffett made a "bucket list" a while back and fulfilled all of them with the exception of "going into space" and visiting Pitcairn Islands, yup, the same Pitcairn Islands from "Mutiny On the Bounty"...Jimmy was supposedly a direct descendant from one of the crew of the Bounty.

Riv, that kinda surprises me...figured you'd be a follower of his...do yourself a favor and get a used lp/cd of this album and I promise it will grow on you..he has has a lot of very good musicians who've played/toured with Jimmy and The Coral Reefer Band over the years...Greg "Fingers" Taylor is one of the best harmonica players ever.

Spent a lot of time back in the late 70's on Duval Street in Key West as well as Boca Chica Key...went to Buffett's house once, it was 2 blocks from where A1A dead ends at the Gulf of Mexico. I knocked on the door, but no one answered...probably a good thing too because;

...well, because I had rather a large buzz going. If he or Jane had answered the door they probably would have called the cops. ...true story.

Got turned onto Buffet the summer of ‘74. Saw him in his first ever Portland concert (at the old Euphoria Tavern) back in August of ‘75. Kickass show that was much too short (and my brothers and I got booted for protesting too loud). He was the one third of the soundtrack (along with Bob Wills and Muddy Waters) for 20 years of sailing the Puget Sound with my best friend. I feel like I lost a close relative…….

I'll give it a listen...he's just an artist that slipped through the cracks in my life...there are plenty of those out there. A friend of mine who passed recently followed him all over the world to see his shows.

It's just a bit rough when you reach a certain stage in life and suddenly realize that most of your heroes are now gone.

I have a friend who was a huge parrothead, she took me to a show once, somewhere in California. Can't remember the venue, but it was outdoors.

Was a fun show. Most of those memories have been Margaritavilled, I'm afraid.

But on my way home I spent a night in Livingston MT In honor of Mr. Buffett (A Sunday night in Livingston is pretty tame). The next day I made an hour's detour before resuming my way west. And yes, Ringling IS a dying little town.......
