All these jokes came off as soooooo try hard.
I agree, very Natebishopy.

Yeah Steph is always so corny and was a terrible pick by ESPN.All these jokes came off as soooooo try hard.
Mods please change the thread title to Dog Days of Summer.
There wouldn't be a team in Portland if it wasn't for fans.Man, you guys are negative.
I was pleasantly surprised with Steph's performance.
Laughed hard at a couple of his jokes. (i realize he did not write them..) Dude even sang a bit. Thought he was by far the best part of the show.
Why is it so difficult to just appreciate the athletes that we dedicate so much of our time talking about?
And this seems as good a spot as any......
STOP referring to the Portland TrailBlazers as....."We"......
You are not on the team.
I'm bored, so lets have some fun.....There wouldn't be a team in Portland if it wasn't for fans.
We are Portland.
Fans in other cities are fans, but they don't keep the team in the city. If fans didn't attend games in Portland, they wouldn't stay. They would look to move the team to another city to be more profitable.I'm bored, so lets have some fun.....
Would there be a team in Minneapolis, if it wasn't for the fans?..
How 'bout Sacramento? Houston?
What makes Portland so exclusive?
And, are all Portland fans "(we are) "Portland"?
What about the Blazer fans that live in, say, Palm Springs?
(again, do not want an argument or anything like that here, just havin' some word salad fun !)
Fans in other cities are fans, but they don't keep the team in the city
That goes for any team, any city. If fans don't show up they look elsewhere.
Fans in other cities that are Portland fans are fans, but they have no or minimal bearing on if a team stays in Portland.I'm confused.
Are you saying (quote1) fans in other cities are not like Portland fans, they are "just?" fans, and have no bearing on whether a team stays in the city?
OR..
Are you saying (quote2) that if fans don't support, the team can leave?
Feels contradictory.
Regardless, the being a fan, to me, makes you part of the "fan community", that is the "we".
Lolol agreed
Alright, catman...Thanks for indulging me..Fans in other cities that are Portland fans are fans, but they have no or minimal bearing on if a team stays in Portland.
If Portland fans don't support the team in Portland, it would be natural for the team to look elsewhere. Especially if the City won't cut them a sweetheart deal. Why not go somewhere that will that guarantees big $$ like Vegas? That's one spot that is such a tourist location that they don't even necessarily need as much local fan support as a city like Portland does.
Fair enough. Have a good one.Alright, catman...Thanks for indulging me..
I think you and I are not on the same wavelength here...
You are talking about geography, and economic impacts, resulting in the "we", whereas, I am just saying, fans are not on the payroll.
I realize you and I are often on the opposite side of the issues, but I respect you and hope we have become good debaters with each other.
Peace.
I believe I read recently where Damian Lillard is on the payroll for The Portland TrailBlazers.Dame said "we won summer league" I guess he shouldn't be allowed to since he wasn't on the team

Yes, I'm certain I've read that somewhere.....
(c'mon, man..seriously?)

This isn't a novel discussion. It's pretty much an age old one among sports fans. Don't get me wrong most fans of teams say we and us but there are plenty of people with your stance that we are just fans.I believe I read recently where Damian Lillard is on the payroll for The Portland TrailBlazers.

The question is can there be subsets of we within collective wes and the answer is unequivocably, yes. We are all people but we are not all left-handed. So I don't claim to be part of the organization just like people in the marketing department don't likely claim to be part of the roster or maybe even the team. I think most players would agree that there is a collective we that the fans of the team, the players and other team employees themselves belong to but obviously there's a we that the players belong to that we don't as fans.[/Q
And I'll quote the late great Freddie Mercury...How 'bout if I steal some words from Bill Schonley?
Never did I ever hear The Great One say:
"WE'VE got to make OUR free throws!"
Or, this most famous line:
"And the game is over!!! At about two minutes and eighteen seconds past the hour of two o'clock, The Portland TrailBlazers have won the World Championship! THEY are #1!"......
He did not say "WE are #1" .

What was ol' fred singing about? And I'll quote the late great Freddie Mercury...
"WE are the champions"
He did not say THEY are the champions.
