Okay now, buying or selling?

The last 10 games (or more) they've looked better than they have all season, so at this point I think they should be buying, but who do they pick up? Right now they are beginning to jell as a team, but I think they need to get more physical and they need to pick up a veteran goal scorer. However, who do they feel they can get rid of to make themselves better for a playoff run? And who do they have to bring in the necessary pieces?

Now having said that, it all depends on how far they think they can get in the playoffs. Are they looking that far, or are they realistically playing for next season? And yes, I know the playoffs are not a given.

I will stand by what I have said for weeks now. I would not make a quick fix deal here that hurts us for next season and the following season. I still don't think that is smart.

The only way I budge on that is if we are adding a legit very solid scoring winger, and even then I don't love the quick fix idea this season, which is not how I usually feel.

I still think we are a legit scoring winger and a physical presence on D away from being a legit cup threat.

I would think MDZ has to go for sure in that situation. I think he is viewed as the 6th dman. Plus he makes a few mill, which is space we'd need, and I just don't think we will re-sign him this summer, especially if we re-sign Girardi.

I think Miller could be the guy dealt if we get a legit winger scorer that is signed for the next few seasons. To my point above, I would not deal Miller for a quick fix FA after this season. This deal should have been done in July. An MDZ/Miller package sent out during the offseason for a big, scoring winger was a no fucking brainer. Instead Sather went fishing and now DZ's dreadful start and frequent scratching ensues that a potential DZ/Miller package wont bring back near the return it would have in July. Thanks Glen.

I wonder what Edmonton will do at the trade DL. Maybe they would really want a dman like MDZ. They are on pace to get the # 1 pick AGAIN, they have played more games than anyone in the NHL and only have more points than Buff by a few. I have to think they'd be willing to move some scoring for a dman who is NHL ready.

And yeah, Sather is a joke. We all know that. Let's see if he can do anything to improve us at the DL.

The Rangers shouldn't deal Miller under any circumstance. None. He's a crucial piece going forward for us. This team needs him to be the third line center next year. The team is not going to go out and spend 5 million on a UFA center. They will buy Richards out. Looks like they should sign Girardi. Our farm is light right now with all the players making the NHL from it the past 5 to 8 years. They need to stock it again. A Callahan deal at the deadline makes sense.

Just as before I am going to say this team is still a couple players away. I wouldn't label them as either sellers or buyers. Just want smart decisions to be made.

I know the Hawks tanked seasons to get Toews and Kane. However, if you look at their draft picks, they seriously know what they are doing. Our scouts are pretty good. However, I would look to that team to lift a couple of their scouts and bring them in here.

Dump I saw you mentioned in another thread that you wanted to keep Brassard. With Ricjards bought out do you think we just go with Stepan-Brassard as the top 2 C's? I don't see that happening, especially with the way Step is playing. So if they grab a guy like Stasny and go Step-Stasny-Brassard down the middle, I think Miller becomes expendable for help on the wings.

They will figure Stepan to rebound. They aren't going to pay Stastny that much money. He's also slow compared to the speed AV wants on his team. I don't see him making sense. I think they go with Stepan-Brassard-Miller-Lindberg down the middle and try to acquire a goal scoring wing via trade.

interesting. I think many people on here, myself included, expect them to target another top 2 C in FA. Problem is besides Stasny there isn't much out there. Hell no to Joe Thornton at his age and the money he will get. Maybe Grabovski will get a look?

When they buyout Richards they will sign another C this summer. I feel pretty confident you can mark that down for sure. I don't think they go Stepan/Brass/Miller down the middle for next season.

And they not dealing Cally at the DL for picks and/or prospects dump unless there are out of it...no shot. Sather is not going to say: okay we are in the playoffs, let me deal my captain for picks and/or prospects. Just not happening.

Could they MAYBE flip him for another proven player that can help now if they feel they can't re-sign Cally...maybe, but no way for picks/prospects unless they are out of it.

When you are heading to the playoffs you usually don't deal your captain dump. That is a tough thing to overcome.

Stepan has had a crap year and Stastny has 6 more points than him. 10 more than Brassard who had a crap start. Is that worth another 6 million dollar contract? Nope. Not IMO.

I don't think it's out of the question to go into next year with Step-Brassard-Miller down the middle. But if they too, they motherfuckin better get a top 6 winger in here who can score and play in the top 6. That need will become 20x greater if that's the C line up they go with.

Like some others I'm no Sather fan but to his credit the guy does not get fleeced in trades. I don't doubt some of the trade rumors others have posted just that they're unlikely to happen unless Glen gets what he wants. The problem is with the number of free agents on this roster, Glen has to have an idea who he wants to move forward with and now with the Rangers adapting to AV's system he deals from a position of strength. I don't see anything meaningful happening until the deadline but if the Rangers keep on rolling Glen may leave things be like he did a few years ago.

Certainly not Stastny or bust, no way. I would not go crazy for him on a large contract. And I also agree with Prod. If they do go with Step/Brass/Miller down the middle, we better add another big time winger to the mix. I think it goes like this, whether it is a C or a winger, I see no way we don't look to add another big time top 6 player upfront.

Dump I kid you not, I was just thinking about that. Gabby loved NY and from what I know he was a really well liked guy in the room. I would not be at all surprised if he took slightly less to come back here. This system could absolutely rejuvenate his career. I know he's been slumping and injured lately but the year he was traded he won the NHL player's survey as best skater. That doesnt just go away and in AV's system he could really show that off.

Kreider-Stepan-Nash: power line with size
Zuccarello-Brassard-Gaborik: pure scoring line with offensive creativity that in AV's system could easily combine for 75 goals.
Hagelin-Miller-Callahan: hard working checking line that can also score some goals

That's a very well-balanced team so long as we can throw McIlrath on D and replace Dom Moore on the 4th with a guy like Steve Ott.

I would love gabby back too for next year as I think he got a raw deal from torts and played well here when he wasn't in torts doghouse. Where do you guys see someone like kristo or fast fitting in if at all next year. Still would like a big free agent tough winger who can score in free agency

Gaborik coming back would be great. I think he'd do well in this system, but somebody has to watch his back on the nights he is getting knocked around.

Since it looks like they'll be in the playoff hunt right till the end, they're best bet is to hope DZ plays well over the next few weeks and then create a package with him/solid prospect/2nd or 3rd rounder together to get the best forward they can, preferably someone who's signed for a few more years. They'd also need a dman to replace him for the rest of this year unless they bring Allen back up but that's alot to ask of him. Ladd would be a great fit as Dump said for a few years. I doubt Columbus trades Gaborik if they're in it after the Olympics.

Any deal in which this teams gives up picks or prospects at the deadline would be a serious hamper to any forward progress and development in the next couple years.
