A black woman went to Old Navy to return a purchase and try on a dress. An employee made her feel uncomfortable and she decided to leave with her already paid for clothing.

The employee named Stephanie followed her to another store, grabbed her and accused her of theft. When security came, she went back to Old Navy and showed her reciept. The employee was later fired.

So she left the store wearing a shirt with the price tag on it after going into the dressing room?

I didn't read the story but when I return something I check in with the cashiers if I want to take it into the store with me. Last time was at Burlington. I'd bought some shorts I liked and saw a defect when I got home. I wanted to get the same exact pair so I showed them and took it with me.

In Vegas in the summer I often walk into stores with a bottle of water. I hold it up as I walk in and show it to the old lady at Walmart if there.

I don't know anything about this old navy story and I'll wait to judge when I have more time and info.

I can almost guarantee that, it was totally against Old Navy policy to leave the store, and follow someone you thought was shop lifting.

Even if she did steal something, the employee wasnt security from what I can tell, and I am guessing she got fired for breaking policy.

Maybe but that doesn't make it racial profiling. I remember watching an Albertsons employee chase a hispanic guy across Sahara through six lanes of traffic for a 24 pack of bud light.

I wondered if she thought her life was worth getting hit by a car.

She probably should have been fired but 10 years ago it wouldn't make a huge story.

That's why you've got to know what the hell you're talking about before you accuse someone of theft.

Huh? She had bought the shirt/clothing earlier and was bringing it back to exchange it. The dress she tried on was left in the store.

Calderon alleges that Stephanie told her that they saw she did not enter the store with the shirt on, that they had camera footage, and that the price tag was still on the shirt.

She had a reciept for it

Then how did she have the receipt for it? Baffling, isn't it.

Yeah, but did she put on the shirt she was returning on in the dressing room, and walk out with the tag attached?

That quote infers that is the case, which is odd.

If so, not illegal. Maybe she was trying it on again in the mirror to decide if she really wanted to return it. She had the reciept. When she went back with security she showed it to the manager or she would have been arrested for shoplifting.

Weird as it may be to you, it does not give the clerk the right to play cop and follow her through the mall to a different shop and accost her.

It's not illegal, its puzzling and odd.

A common scam is to get a receipt, then take something off the floor and return it.

Old Navy investigated the situation. They found the clerk in the wrong, not the customer.

Then the store employee better make sure it's being shoplifted before making such a claim.
How about asking to see the receipt just before the customer leaves the store? If they have a bogus receipt then they'd better witness the taking of the item from the rack where the item was not placed before.
Yeah, it's a pain in the ass but you gotta know what you're doing before accusing someone of theft. Store video helps.

Exactly

I'm not gonna lose sleep over a store that hires someone with a GED to do serious work.

My bro used to work there in high school or college or some shit. A few years after he stopped working there, he went out drinking wearing the Old Navy employee shirt, and some manager came up to him and freaked out about it. I think I have that shirt somewhere, hah, shit will be funny to wear.

Ive always kept all my shirts from my old shit jobs over the years. My wife’s gonna make me a quilt with those and my old sports tees and band tees.

I wonder what the hell she figured would happen? I hardly ever return a purchase, crap I hate to go make the purchase, returning is real pain in the butt. But man, you check that in right up front! Who the hell would ever think to walk out with it again????

I'm lucky I'm big and scary looking. I ever tell the story of my friend slipping a theft prevention sticker in my wallet?

I set off random alarms coming and going from stores for a year in the mid 90s. I got chased by loss prevention a few times and invariably turned and said something like "leave me alone or I'll beat you to death"

Worked every time.

It would alarm going into Fred Meyers.

I walked out of Fred Meyers once it was Dark in the winter with my wife, and my oldest (she was like 6 months old at the time), we had a cart and 3 loss prevention guys come running at us swearing up a storm and screaming at us about how they were going to beat us up, then when we turned around they all were like oh we got the wrong people and then ran down some other lady leaving the store and were saying things to her...

At the time I was scared that they’d hurt my wife and kid... Give some people a tiny bit of power...

Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen for Kroger. Dumbasses.
