Aldridge and DeRozan far Whiteside, Bazemore and a pick work on the ESPN Trade Machine.

Is he wrong? I mean i read a few things that were in tune with that. I know i thought the team would be better. Was hoping Bazemore would be a bit more solid. There you go calling out the forum again.

Most however know why Olshey made those moves but here we are in a thread accusing Olshey of being in "Full Panic Mode". Which i am sure he is not but all the same.
It was fucking brilliant!c'mon man, that wasn't anywhere close to swinging for the fences. That was Olshey dumpster diving, and his motivation was that he wanted to kick the can of Plumlee's impending RFA summer a year down the road by adding a C who had an extra year left on their rookie deal
so he was looking around for teams anxious to dump a young C with year(s) left on their rookie deal. That's why he was talking to Philly about Okafor and Denver about Nurkic. And the reporting is that the Blazers were right at the gate for the Okafor trade, to such a point that Philly held Okafor out of games believing they had a deal (reports were Philly was pissed off about the deal falling thru). Reading between the lines, it seems pretty likely that the Blazers would have traded for Okafor if Denver hadn't added the 1st round pick
yes, the trade worked great for Portland but that was a lot more a function of luck than anything else. If you want to give Olshey credit for leveraging Denver out of that pick, that's fine and maybe accurate. But it was not a swing for the fences...it was a bunt
venting....sure...chronic venting...boring and sort of habitualc'mon...people like to use hyperbole, especially on an internet sports forum. It's kind of ridiculous that others are always dissecting and splitting the hairs of the hyperbole. Not everything said around here is literal, and not all nits have to be picked. Sometimes, it's better to let somebody vent without having to go all Matlock and push back on every little exaggeration they use. I don't believe the OP actually believes Olshey is in a panic, but signing Melo at the point he was signed wasn't the move of a GM in a good spot, either
I mean for chrissakes...read the OP..."suicide watch"....? does anybody really think that was serious?

I disagree....people have been spouting about Neil since he arrived mostly because he uses hair gel and wears expensive suits and says "look" a lot but he's actually a gym rat who spends more time in the practices than probably most GMs in the league....I think he came here with the stigma that he's still a Hollywood soap opera hack actor...he's actually a sports nut who lives in that world daily. Dame has praised his accessibility with the team and said it's rare in the league....if Jerry West wanted the job, sure.....best GM in the league but one issue...Jerry West doesn't want the jobNeil isn’t unhappy per se in Oregon, but personally I think he’d rather be in about 20 other cities and he’d move to LA yesterday if he could.
venting....sure...chronic venting...boring and sort of habitual
just what is your problem with the good ship lollypop anyway? I've seen Raymond Felton as a starting Blazer pt guard....I know evil when I see it...criticism should be constructive...I'll have those conversations but it's way beyond that this season here. I think a healthy perspective is a better experience to enjoy the team, win or lose.....I've cheered for decades ..win or lose and I've criticized plenty of players over those decades...sorry if my having fun irritates pessimists and critics but it's how I roll..if we weren't struggling Nas would be playing for the Austin Toros tonight.....as it is he's learning how to guard Lebron James instead....developing the bench is what we got right now..I can enjoy watching him grow into an NBA rotation player...we've won one chip in 50 years....I still keep cheeringappropriate optimism sure....incessant good-ship-loolypop-sunshine-pumping-see-no-evil-overreactive-immediate-same-sound-bite-push-back against any criticism....boring and definitely habitual
I kind of had fun with that one but I'll admit I lost track of where I was
My wife agrees with you but I don't.Imagine being Neil Olshey. You have a team that went to the Western Conference Finals. You have a great player who made a shot heard round the world. You are poised to take the next step and compete for an NBA championship.
So you trade or release half the team, bring in a batch of new guys, and the next season you sink to the bottom of the league.
Olshey now appears set to become the GM who ruined Portland’s chances for another championship—and took away Lillard’s best opportunity to get a ring.
Is he even sleeping at night? Is he on suicide watch?By all measures, this appears to be a miscalculation of historic proportions. Unless something dramatic happens, the Blazers are going to struggle for the remainder of the year, and can only hope that two guys coming back from major injuries are somehow going to save them.
Right now Bazemore sucks but I've got my fingers crossed that all those people who have touted him will some how eventually prove right. Most people in this forum before the start of the season: “wow our roster is better than last season! Goodbye Turner, Aminu, and Meyers you scrubs! Bazemore is so much of an improvement!”
most people in this forum today: “wow I can’t believe Olshey made those offseason moves. What an idiot! Bazemore sucks!!”
Are you blind? Whiteside is great. We made a series of bad moves this offseason, bringing in several guys that just aren't good. Chemistry doesn't matter unless the players are good, and Whiteside/Bazemore/Hezonja aren't, and haven't been, good. Now we've plugged in Carmelo... we're bad.
I don't know how Olshey is sleeping, but I'm hopeful that a strong offseason of shoring up the bench can get us back to where we want to be.
How long do you think that's gonna last? That's a rhetorical question. It's funny (but not funny ha ha) how everyone was trashing Phoenix's offseason but they're now clearly superior to us.
He's surely a better shooter than I expected...he's been money at the free throw line and with the midrange jumper so far...he's still lacking chemistry with the starters for where to be and hasn't built a second nature pick and roll move yet...doesn't set great screens and doesn't get his arms up on defense often enough but hopefully Pau will help him from the sidelines a bit...I still think he's going to be on another team by the playoffs thoughAre you blind? Whiteside is great.
I'm not saying he's wrong but I'm not saying he's right. I'm just sick of people self-righteously calling out the entire forum literally every single day. Self-righteousness is a bit of a pet peeve for me.Is he wrong? I mean i read a few things that were in tune with that. I know i thought the team would be better. Actually you kind of just agreed with the meaning of my post.c'mon...people like to use hyperbole, especially on an internet sports forum. and KJ, I'm not really meaning to single you out because a lot of people get carried away around here in arguing nearly meaningless points into the ground, myself included.
I don't like that either, but I think I'm a bit more understanding of the frustration behind it... At least enough to not act like I'm better than it because I post out of frustration too. I'll give you credit: that's something I rarely see you do. I just think that calling out the forum every single day just adds to the negativity.Abject pessimism would be mine
It’s all good. I understand. But I find myself doing it sometimes too. Just saying those things are out there.I'm not saying he's wrong but I'm not saying he's right. I will say this: I think the overall forum rhetoric is much better than I'd expect given how disastrous this start has been. There will always be a bunch of different opinions and mindsets that will boil with frustration, but it's been better than years past. It’s all good. I understand. Me too. I would have expected total carnage!I will say this: I think the overall forum rhetoric is much better than I'd expect given how disastrous this start has been. You're Mario Hezonja?I kind of had fun with that one but I'll admit I lost track of where I was
The fact that the forum is still here is an accomplishment in itself.Me too. I would have expected total carnage!
Biggest thing I've noticed about Baze statistically is he's super inefficient from 3-10 feet (in the 20% range for his career) but he's shooting a career high 16% of his shots from that range. That and he's not finishing from 0-3 feet (less than 40%).Baze could turn into a Wes Mathews type 3 and D guy...he's not great around the rim though and neither was Wes.....Wes used to brick fast break layups often with nobody between him and the basket...Baze tries to drive into 3 defenders and doesn't have the chops to finish yet.
