"but we require a sense of realism when it comes to this." What does that mean?

That there is literally nothing they can do to beat the Warriors in the playoffs right now. Wait it out and hope they begin to decline. Contrary to what Kingspeed believes, Portland is not in the same universe as Golden St

Olshey isn’t gonna let Vonleh walk now that they’ve developed him, that’s wild.

The obvious trade candidates are Davis, Harkless, and Napier. The way Davis and Napier are playing, we can probably trade them without taking salary back. Harkless is still young and has shown enough to justify his contract, and other GMs could just be thinking he needs a change of scenery. The problem is there aren’t many teams with cap space to take on Davis. The pacers look like a fit for Napier and they have the space to take on his contract. I could see Chicago interested in Harkless and they have the cap space to absorb his contract. Harkless and Davis/Leonard for Mirotic or Lopez?

If we can package Harkless with either Davis or Leonard while saving 4-5m, and also dump Napier, I believe we’d get under the tax.

Baldwin and Wilcox could both be roster replacements if we need to replace numbers lost.

What some of us have been saying and getting called trolls for. We have no chance at a title this year

So Olshey is a troll?

I still think Collins will be good. My gripe about Olshey is how horrendous he's been in the FA market. All the guys he's targeted, to a man, ended up being big disappointments to the teams that acquired them, Hibbert, Hawes, Monroe, Kanter, now Parsons. And of course, he's massively over-paid to keep talent that isn't contributing much.

His saving grace has been his drafting.

That we must be sly like a fox( or is it a poker dog?) and wait for the right moment to strike instead of a bear mauling and destroying most of the league only to be demolished by the Godzilla that is Golden State in the playoffs.

Man.... All this talk about trading Davis... Is Biggie supposed to come in and be the next Davis? Who's our backup C in this scenario?

I love Big Ed and think we should keep him. He does ALL of the dirty work.. Who's gonna do it when he's gone? So many questions...

"You have three wishes, chose wisely !"

1. MAKE TURNER'S CONTRACT DISAPPEAR
2 MAKE MO'S CONTRACT DISAPPEAR
3 MAKE MEYERS CONTRACT DISAPPEAR*

*those wishes are not ordered

You're going a little low on the wishes here. I mean they're wishes.

1. LBJ is traded to Portland.
Yeah I don't need anymore wishes.

The only way Davis stays in Portland beyond this season is if Olshey dumps Meyers' entire contract, or decides that he'd rather have Davis than Vonleh. Both unlikely scenarios. So we either keep him and let his contract expire, or we get something for him and use his contract to get under the tax.

We have something like $110m in contracts next season, and that's not including all our pending RFAs (this number may include their cap holds though.) Nurk and Vonleh alone would add somewhere around $30m to that total.

As for his immediate replacement, big picture wise, is almost irrelevant. Losing Davis isn't going to be the difference between a championship.

Given our salary situation I'd rather just let Ed walk, or trade him for future picks. Can't trade Ed and take back salary at this point.

If he created an account and told us that 150 times a year, then yes, he would be a troll :)

Why not?
Lux Tax line is set at $119.2M (link). Blazer's current payroll is $122.2M (link). They just need to dump $3M. Ed makes $6.3M, so they can trade Ed for anyone who makes less than $3.3M and still be able to get under the tax.

Even if their contract extends beyond 2018, it's ok if they are a contributor.

Well, yeah, sure we could. But if I were calling the shots I wouldn't want to take back any future salary. The way I see it, Ed/Vonleh are making about $9M this year and next year Vonleh alone will make about $9M - so that's a wash and doesn't impact our salary in either direction. We still need to find some savings, but at least with Ed/Vonleh, we can stay salary neutral by letting Ed's contract come off the books.

Only playoff teams would be interested in Davis imo, and most of those teams don't have cap space, so we'd probably have to take some salary back. I don't see that happening though. I think a more likely scenario would be adding Davis to Harkless and trading them to someone like Chicago.

Harkless and Davis for Mirotic? Mirotic wants out, and Harkless probably needs a change as well and he's young and fits Chicagos rebuild and plays a position they don't really have anybody at.

Mirotic gives us a shooter/scorer for the second unit, and if we don't like him he's got a team option we could just decline.

It means, have a sense of realism about Olshey's talent to undo his own mistakes.

Yep. Vonleh will never be half the player Davis is.

Vonleh is a stationary brick wall on defense. Remember when Westbrook hurt his head by bumping into Vonleh's shoulder?

Davis is the active guy who builds the wall.

So trade him to BOS where they can absorb him with their player exception, send us their late first, and help them at a position of need (PF).

We are in the same universe as them.

Pick another hobby.

Find me a losing team in the depths of Russia with a former Blazer, which I can't ever find a free stream to watch, so I can check the boxscore once a week and pretend to know all about it on this board.

Ed Davis is much more fun to watch than Vonleh. We are overstocked at 6-9 forwards, but not at 7-0 centers.

Neil's tone carry's a certain hint of "You better ask me the right questions." That's for sure. Probably the best interview I have heard him do and I listened to most of it. Didn't know that he was a disciple of Tim Grgurich, Mr. Amoeba Defense himself. I thought the best part was when he described their methods for scouting and drafting players. Fascinating.

I seriously respect you as a poster...but really Vonleh isn't better than Ed? Noah may be one of the best defensive PF's in the league and growing. He can guard multiple positions and is being used to match up with one of the greatest players in the league right now. Just the fact that he is being considered for that task is a compliment to what he has accomplished over the summer. Offensively he has work to do for sure, but so does Ed. I still respect your opinion. To me watching a really good defensive player is almost more fun than an offensive player...almost.

Side note....Go Cowboys!!

You just had to ruin an otherwise good post there at the end, didn't you.

I'm pretty sure he's yanking your chain. Davis isn't even close to being 7'...
