Olshey press confernce

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

people hear what they wanna hear and now that Stotts is gone there needs to be a new target.

because yesterday was the first time that Olshey has been criticized for his roster building, player evaluations, free agent signings, or draft record

stalking Chris McGowan's twitter, he seems to have recently followed this account: https://twitter.com/sjcarmike

The CEO of a headhunting firm for sports executives.

Other clients: https://www.prodigysearch.net/clients.html

hmmmm

I've long said McGowan's twitter account is fairly transparent about our future plans/moves.
This is kind of what I would expect from this group; wait until Stotts is fired, hire a headhunting firm, come up with 20+ candidates. Run them by Jody to see if all are socially acceptable, then start narrowing them down. I would have preferred if they anticipated this firing months ago, hired some guy outside the organization to discreetly start picking brains of ex-players, ex-GM's, agents etc. about who would be good. Get it narrowed down even before Stotts is fired.

it’s just weird since most GMs that get hired are just retreads or already work for a front office in some capacity. I dunno why they need to go through a third party.

Wouldn't it make more sense this is for the now underway coaching search? But to answer your question, its like using a great realtor. They know about houses not actually on the market and act as a buffer in high stakes negotiations.

Most people will give a politically correct answer, knowing you can't give a real one. But Neil was just a dick.

Any and all dunking on Fentress will never be enough for what he deserves.

I finally just got time to watch the full interview. I’m confused why there is such backlash.
What did he say that was so bad?

It's not what he's saying. It's how he's saying it. The guy is just extremely smug and combative. At least that's my opinion.

I'd imagine there's a big difference...?

I mean, it seems logical that GM's and a GM's staff would have significant in-house criteria and process to apply in evaluating coaches

but the business side of an NBA team might not have much process or criteria in evaluating necessary qualities for a GM

maybe I have no clue either

it's some of what he's saying too. For instance that all fault was due to coaching and none on the roster

and again, a pertinent question, that wasn't asked, is if it was all on the coaching, why did that only become apparent in the last 6 games Stotts coached for Portland instead of the first 776 games he coached

He said all fault was coaching not roster? Really..I remember him saying he wants to upgrade the roster, either/both starters and bench. Your disdain for Olshey is becoming similar to the guy who posts hate for the team every time they lose, forget his name

yes...he said that in terms of defense

Really..I remember him saying he wants to upgrade the roster, either/both starters and bench.

so what....he has said that 2 or 3 times a year, every fucking year, for 9 years. He said that very thing just before he went out and traded for Whiteside & Bazemore and signed Hezonja & Tolliver. Why is there suddenly more value in his boiler-plate rhetoric?

really?...then it should be easy for you to cite what it is I have wrong about him. What I'm saying that is false. Enlighten me

I agree with him wholeheartedly that our defense should have been better than 29th in the league. You don’t? That’s strange to me.
You hate the guy. We get it. It’s literally 90% of your posts. Seems like now would be a good time to maybe step away if it angers you this much.

or maybe you should step away from me if what I say bugs you so much

and LOL...yeah right, I've said all along Blazer defense was fine (imagine green font)

This is the kind of post that just cracks me up. How do you know they didn't do that? Or maybe they did do that. Who knows? You sure don't. Neither do we.

I would surmise that Terry has been in the hot seat internally all season and they created a list long ago.

I thought Terry looked visibly more stressed this season on the sideline and in press conferences, and super stressed during the playoffs. I saw a couple times the players fucked up on the court and his reaction was extreme frustration with a "thanks you just got me fired" look.

there were multiple reports from both local and national outlets that the replacement was already in mind months ago

cutting down to a 7 man rotation and running dame into the ground was also indicative of him desperately fighting for his job without giving mind to a long term vision

Criteria sure, process not so much as its not a common routine. A good recruiting agency is going to hone your process, distill your criteria, and offer an outside perspective that is helpful in contrasting candidates.

Not sure why Stotts was so stressed, doesn't he get a $10 million vacation or something like that? Hell, give me $10 million and I'll never work another day in my life. I'd even hire @THE HCP to take care of my yard maintenance.

Well, Olshey has said he has 20 + names; so I think I know they have not narrowed it down. Glad you got a chuckle though,

Olshey’s sales pitch did not slip by The Athletic’s John Hollinger, though. On Tuesday, Hollinger pointed out the flaws in Olshey’s defense.

"Don’t say that last part out loud, though. Surely, the Blazers aren’t. In a bit of performance art that one suspects is directly related to the concerns in the previous paragraph, Olshey used the postseason media meet to cast aspersions everywhere but on the talent around Lillard.

'This first-round loss was not a product of the roster,' he insisted (technically true: it was a product of the Nuggets scoring more points four times in six games), and added that the team’s ranking 29th in defense was not a reflection of the roster either. This roster, mind you, frequently had Carmelo Anthony and Enes Kanter teamed up in the frontcourt at the same time, among other transgressions. While it featured one of the league’s best help defenders in Robert Covington, it had no on-ball stoppers, only one rim protector (center Jusuf Nurkic), and lots of salivating matchup possibilities for opposing scorers."

That last line really lays it out there, quite accurately I think: "While it featured one of the league’s best help defenders in Robert Covington, it had no on-ball stoppers, only one rim protector (center Jusuf Nurkic), and lots of salivating matchup possibilities for opposing scorers."
