He had a good starting 4, but there is no one except freeland playing off the bench. That means he had 9 mil, had to fill the center spot and build a bench.

He nabbed Lopez for White and cap space. Got T. Rob for just cap space and second rounders. It didn't stop there. Drafted CJ, crabbe (steal) and grabbed Watson, Wright and Mo for scraps.

I am soooo thankful our GM gets it!

At this point in the season, our team looks to have a ton of "of the year" awards in contention: GM, coach, MVP... I'm really in awe of how this all has come together...

Me too. I'm a homer but I never imagined we would look this good. I had a feeling, but it really didn't become real until the Chicago and golden state game.

This thread should appear when we beat a top team, not on a night when we are lucky to get out of Detroit alive.

We have beaten top teams. This game is a b2b, and we didn't get to hotel until 2am because of weather. Then they had an early game.

Even good teams lose to bad teams. We have not lost to a bad team yet. What does that make us?

And I don't consider Detroit a bad team. I consider them a young team. That squad has so much talent it's disgusting.

I'd like to give Olshey props for hiring Stotts and for hiring Stackpole along with all the new training staff. I doubt this teams starters would've played every one of their first 25 games with Bob Medina's 1985 training program.

To be fair, any night you can get out of Detroit alive is worthy of celebration. That place is a dangerous hell hole.

After the bad breaks this franchise has had an our loyal fan base has suffered through, we deserve an almost miracle turnaround as this one.

I think everyone gets praise and he won't get this but maybe Allen deserves the most.

But everyone and everyting seems aligned right now. Everything is in cohesion, even our broadcast team, the Mikes are hitting on all cylinders and I think they have been better than at any other time before and the two are having a lot of fun. They are fun to listen this year. I'm actually laughing at Rices jokes more now but I think it's him.

I bet Olshey is in the corner someplace scratching his saying to himself, what the hell did I do.

I also think we should remember the accomplishments of some former GM's in building this team. Pritchard made the trade to move up and get Aldridge. He also made a trade that moved up enough to get Batum. And the decision to try to get Matthews as a restricted free agent was made while he was GM.
Cho made the steal of a trade that netted us the draft pick for Lillard.

Not sure who brought the IPad to the bench idea. We're making in game adjustments all the time, and the players often refer to it being due to something they saw. It's like film session IN THE GAME. Little things like that are making a difference. The previous culture and reputation inside the organization wasn't good, even last year at times you heard things. But now it feels like we're the Spurs when it comes to professionalism, anylitics, technological innovation, organizational culture, etc. That's as surprising to me as the 21-4 start. Olshey has to be a big part of that.

Well done! Instead of me trying to find a thread posted months ago trying to search in tapatalk (impossible) on my phone, I decided to post an entirely new thread.

no probs but I of course had to give credit where it was due...lol

I am going to upset many in here....as usual

Olshey did what exactly?

PER of Olsheys improved bench

Watson -2.6
Mo Chuck 11.2
Wright 12.3
Robinson 15.2

Freeland, who has been ridiculously improved has a 10.8 PER

Lopez has been a Godsend with a 16.7 PER

McCollum hasn't played a second of the 13-14 season

So what I see is the starters are playing lights out, and the bench, which is improved drastically is meh at best.

Biggest praise should easily be the coaching staff

Lol! Regardless, the praise for how Olshey assembled this team with so little is quite amazing!

I can't wait to see what he's gonna do when he has MLE and so many tradeable assets!

Olshey has done an incredible job. Not sure that Whitsitt or Pritchard or anyone else could have turned this team around as quickly as he has.

I'm still pinching myself over our record. Am I dreaming? This is all a little surreal.

Yeah the east is absolutely horrible this year, but I bet Detroit ends up 3rd in the conference. They have some pretty good talent and will end up winning the majority of their home games. They are a good SG away from jumping up a level.

Speaking of SG's, I know Pope is still young so it is tough to evaluate him just yet, but as of right now I don't see much difference between he and Crabbe. I think we lucked out with both CJ and Crabbe dropping like they did. But again it is still early.

It's quite simple really. The main deal was getting Lopez, who obviously was a pivotal part to solidify our starting 5. Lopez alone has given us such a great lift.

Then you talk about our bench. Well considering what he had to work with, we have a lot of talent that could become great (T. Rob) and CJ that hasn't even played yet.

And if you want to only account for scoring, then you have a case. Difference is the bench we have right now is much improved defensively. Wright is still an outside threat, which still spreads the floor. You don't see teams just leaving him wide open.

Mo is also another player you can't leave wide open as well. There wasn't a player last season you could say about that, who could play defense as well.

The bench defense is pretty bad though, minus Freeland and occasionally Robinson.

I am not discounting the improvements he has made over the summer, I just don't think "Olshey should get the biggest praise"

I think I agree with you. I've been pushing the "3rd quarter" narrative for the last couple weeks, because I think Stotts deserves COY talk. Effective 2nd half adjustments are, IMO, a huge indicator of great coaching. Stotts deserves big ups for our performance so far this season.
