Well I have the VA, my wife does not.

I had healthcare coverage for anywhere in the world for what ever ails me. Covered in full.

Now I have the VA when I can get and appointment to see a provider at a VA Hospital or Clinic.

Self-employed, so no tax break. Didn’t mean to say that you were necessarily among the subsidized. Just that ACA has been a boon to some, but a burden to others. Being on the screwed end of the spectrum, rosy comments about Obamacare tend to set me off.

But you're acting like Obamacare did that. It did not. The health insurance system was FUCKED for the self employed BEFORE the ACA. Please elaborate on how it's been any different for you since it got passed. You actually have way more options now... And don't talk about prices because it's the insurance companies fault why premiums are where they are.

Your company could do this legally whenever they wanted to. The ACA didn't allow this.

What the heck are you saying, don’t talk about premiums? Good grief, it’s always about the money. There’s no denying that healthcare costs have been a mess for a long time and that there were millions of people who were stuck with no insurance before the ACA went into effect. But to pretend that it didn’t negatively impact some people financially in order to benefit others is nonsense. You can’t provide coverage for a sicker group that now included folks with pre-existing conditions, and subsidized coverage for lower income folks without someone paying the tab.

Before the ACA, my wife and I had a high deductible plan that was really only for coverage for catastrophic illness. It cost us $850 a month and we were able to have a Health Savings Account that we could put money into tax free as self-insurance for the lesser medical expenses. It wasn’t a perfect system, but it worked okay for us. When the ACA went into effect the first thing we discovered was that even though we liked our plan, no we couldn’t keep it. We got notice from the insurance company that the plan wasn’t ACA compliant and it wouldn’t be continued. Our new ACA plan was a bronze tier plan because that was the most we could afford to pay. It cost us a combined $1,400 a month, so the money that we’d been putting into the HSA went to pay premiums. The insurance was just as crappy as what we had before. High deductibles with virtually no coverage except for the “free” physical and flu vaccines. At first we thought there’d be some savings on routine colonoscopies, but soon found out that if you have any history of polyps (which most people do end up with) you get coded as “surveillance” rather than “preventative” and the insurance company can decline coverage. So you get put on a 3-5 year screening cycle and you’re on your own for paying for it.

Those multiple options you speak of are drying up as insurance companies are dropping out in most areas. The Republicans are intent on killing the plan through neglect. The young people that were the underpinnings of the economics of the plan by being required to pay for coverage were largely not getting plans and were paying the small tax penalty knowing they could jump back in if they actually got a serious illness. Now Trump’s removed even the tax penalty. This albatross of a program is going to implode and when it does many people will be hurt. Fortunately for me, we’re now on Medicare.

Thats what screwed my wife. Got in a bad car wreck ambulance takes ber to local hospital. Closest va hospital was an hour away. They fought her about paying bill then never covered ambulance bill. The VA is already a big enough pain in the ass veterans dont deserve this extra ass fuckery.

This is a ridiculous take.
They could have tried, but they did not. In the case of my company, there were about 750,000 people that lost their health care. We had the power to sue them for failure to provide the agreed benefits. So they did not take us on. After the ACA, we could not as dropping us was a legal alternative.

I do not know the total number of companies that took this option but it was many that did so. There were people at the meeting from more that 20 different companies. Why did they all take this action at the same time? Avoid the damn draconian tax of course and it was now legal.

Pretty damn dumb if they expected revenue! A completely unfair tax to generate revenue for healthcare as well as illogical.

Yeah, the nearest VA Hospital to where I live is about 2.5 hours a way by auto. The Clinic is 28 miles away.
I just looked it up here. There is a clinic in Oxnard but clinics only do appointment sort of routine stuff. The nearest Hospital is in LA.
Geez! No telling how long it takes to get there from Oxnard. Depends on the time of day and the current road conditions. No friggin way a a few weeks back
from Santa Barbara with 101 closed for 2 weeks.

Yeah. Losing a plan that is good anywhere, any hospital, such as Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, John Hopkins, or maybe you are in Italy or some other country. All these possibilities are gone now. Thanks Obama.

It is more like losing quite a bit more than a Mercedes. I did like using the VA before though, for regular maintenance stuff, check ups and prescriptions.
They don't farm you for what they can get paid to do, like the private sector doctors and clinics do. But to get some serious help takes some tenacity and much time.
