<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

That isnt lecturing? I guess that i just have problems comprehending simple arguements.....
Would you honestly say that "take responsibilites for your actions" has no moral meaning? I think that you are the one that isnt reading ur posts carefully enough. They can get rid of the major websites that allow you to download for free.....such as bearshare, sheraza, and all of the other major downloading sites. Did you know that the government has the power to do that! :happy0144:
HAHAHAHAHA OH MAN YOU ARE CLASSY.First of all, I said I wasn't lecturing YOU. I made a point that a person should feel free to stand up for what they believe in, but also take responsibility. Yes, it is an issue of morality, but not a moral argument. A moral argument would be, for example, "You should not steal music, because stealing is wrong." I made a general point, not an argument, that people should take responsibility for their actions. I don't think anyone is arguing about that at all. It is not a statement of evidence used to support a claim, therefore no, it's not an argument. It's nice to say, okay, just shut them down, but like I said, YOU CAN'T. The fact that you think they can just shut them down shows how little you know about this. There so many reasons you can't shut down peer to peer software.Bearshare and Shareaza aren't websites, that's the point. You can't "shut them down." Okay, right now you are looking at a website. You access a server to post on this forum. I access a server to post on this forum. The difference with Bearshare, Shareaza, Kazaa, Morpheus, etc., is that you do not access a server at all. Ever. The list of songs, videos, yadda yadda, is channeled through what is called a supernode. A supernode is just a user's computer that someone volunteered to be a supernode. The list contains those songs and whatever and from whom you can download those particular files. When you click on a file to download, you connect directly to another persons computer who has the file you want. There is no intermediate. There is no website, server, etc. So you cannot just shut it down. For it to be discontinued, you would have to uninstall it from every person's computer. How do you suggest they do that? Also, Bearshare and all those other peer to peer programs aren't inherently illegal. You can copy copyrighted books using a Xerox machine, yet the government isn't looking to shut down Xerox. Do you understand why? You see, the companies/organizations that make these programs aren't really doing anything illegal. Only the people who use the software are. Finally, you seem to assume that the government can just walk into a building and do whatever they want. That's not really true at all. Some of the groups that make these programs aren't in America. Do you think we're going to invade someone's territory to shut some website (in the case of torrents), server (in the case of irc), or programming group down? Hell no, that's stupid. They can't even do that in America, either. They still have to go through a legal process to make someone do what they want. A lot of times that process is too long to be worth going through.Really, why do you bother getting involved in a discussion you know nothing about?
